We've been having a cold spell here in the northeast. On the real cold mornings the brakes are real stiff until warmed up. It caught me off guard the first time and I had to basically stand on the brakes to stop the car. All is well after a few stomps and after the car has warmed up. Is this common for you guys in the forever cold region or is this just a case of moisture in some old brake fluid giving me a hard time?

Nice artwork melding the concepts. Unfortunately, for my taste the front of the car makes it look like an anteater. If you took the two hood lines and moved them further laterally towards the fenders, you'd get less "hips" and more "shoulder" to the look, somewhat like the Volvo hood lines. This might require that you take that Alfa grillwork and stretch it laterally as well (not a bad thing though). The back seems to trail off without impact. How about a little more "haunch". The VW Toureg seems a fair balance so if SOA could take a cue and give it the SOA style stamp, I'd buy. Micheangelo stated that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

With about 35K miles on the odometer, the auto tranny on my 00 Legacy GT was slow to shift from reverse into forward. SOA installed a reman. transmission. Fortunately, satisfactory service after unsatisfactory FACTORY. Mechanic immediately knew what he was dealing with as a known problem so be on the lookout if you are still under warranty.

19"... she's a keeper! Best wishes.

Isn't there some sort of solenoid on the side of the transmission that can contribute to this white smoke condition. Don't remember why but the parts dept sold me this part in response to a similar complaint.... probably could have just as well sold me muffler bearings! Had a condition of white smoke on hard right turns and Sub knows about this and has a fix that prevents drawback (of oil?)through the PVC system. Just trying to be helpful and prevent you from shooting your car tonight (wait for daylight). Good luck.

Almost forgot, coupla' weeks ago I spilled some Dextron on the belt while topping off the power steering fluid. Doh. Wiped it off fairly well but, could this have begun the demise and stretching of the belt? Am I trying too hard for the idiot of the week award?

Nothing new about the tire configuration, sizes etc.. Again, the noise occurs whether or not the car is moving and increases with RPMs! Any other wise men out there in the desert??

90 Loyale auto 4WD with button on shifter. Too cold to check tonight but when I engage the 4WD, there is a squealing noise. I noticed that the alternator belt was loose this past weekend (too cold to fix) and am hoping that it is the source of the noise as it seems like where it's coming from but what would cause it to squeal only when 4wd engaged, where is the additional strain? The sound occurs whether the car is sitting still or moving and increases with RPM

If you can't get hold of the previous owner, call the Sub dealers near where the previous owner lived on the off chance that the work was done by a Sub dealer. Take the car to a body shop, they will be able to tell pretty quickly if the car was "customized by CRASH". They can spot a repaint and will be able to tell you what would need to be done to align the door. Plead poverty and they may tell you how to do it yourself.

Hopefully the dealer documented the leak back when it started as this pre-exisitng condition should have been remedied at that time. Regardless of the -30 degrees, a car sold in that climate should be able to stand up to those conditions without an excuse! Perhaps you can now strike a deal even if the warranty is up. Heed all the cautions about packing provisions for being "out in the cold" and G'luck.

Pretty much what the dealer told me today. He said the post is tapering and allows the nut to back off under pressure (heavy snow not cleared off manually) instead of burning out the motor. The wife admits that she didn't do much to clean off the snow. So to prevent a recurrence I intend to: 1.) Get stick. 2.) Beat wife with stick. The question I have is what size stick does SOA recommend for this procedure?:temper:

Sure am glad I never told you about my organ donor card. I'm not quite done with the parts yet!:santa: Considering recent weather, I like the suggestion of "condensation" in cold filler tube as the dipstick seems clear and the gasket on the filler cap is shot.
-
Adding oil to my 90 Loyale I noticed the inside of the filler cap had a yellow/cream color coating of what I suppose is degraded oil. The PCV valve is functioning and the lines are clear. The car runs fine. What are other possible causes for the condition?

2000 GT Legacy. Heavy wet snow today in Ct.. Driving down the road when suddenly the driver's wiper started working erratically and then stopped which had a conflict with the passenger side wiper's sense of order (crashed into each other and knocked off the wind foil). Seems the nut on the driver's side became loose. Anyone experience this before? I didn't see anything in the owner's manual or schedule of maintenance for checking this particular nut. Yes it was heavy snow but I didn't see any other cars on the roadside stopping to tighten their nut. Perhaps SOA will be so kind as to replace the wiper arm under warranty. If you happened to see me on the road, please excuse my driving the rest of the way home by braille.

Try the Search function on this and the Old Generation of Subaru website. There was recently (last week I think) a very exhaustive discussion of the differences, drawbacks and pitfalls in this grouping of cars you are considering. As you already know, the folks on this site are extremely informative. If I stumble upon it I'll post again or perhaps another reader can point you in the right direction.

power steering pump Question

http://www.cybrrpartspro.com/Chilton%20Manuals/8797m/8797CH08_41.HTML Check above site for details on system. I suppose you have checked the belt for slippage and fluid level? I once looked at fluid level and was fooled in that I was still able to add plenty! Check owner's manual for specs as my 90 Loyale PS uses Dextron II or III. Top off that reservoir as a first step. Let us know when it's safe for the rest of us to be back on the road. -
Am I an idiot? Please let us know the final tally in regards your initial survey question.

http://www.cybrrpartspro.com/Chilton%20Manuals/8797m/8797.HTML Check out the chassis electrical section... it'll give you something to do until someone comes up with somethin' more helpful. I didn't see anything about a third eye... is this some part of a satanic cult or a Subaru I'm just not familiar with... like a Satanic Subie? At least this post will shamelessly bump you back to the top of the site. Good luck:banana:
