  1. Make sure you keep records of receipts and submissions as Pep Boys can be "forgetful" when it comes to honoring rebates. Still chasing them down for partial rebate redemption from Black Friday.
  2. 8000 miles Subaru certified pre owned 1.25 years left on SOA bumper to bumper then 7 yrs (from first date registered) or 100k drive train whichever comes first. Actually better than 5/60 drive train on new car. Even includes drive axles!
  3. Yes 0W-20 is recommended and listed in the linked ad,. they also have 5W-20 and 5W-30 synthetics. Limit is 2 offers (5 Qt jug or 5 Qts) per household. Guess I'll be stocking the bar.
  4. Noticed this ad: Shell Rotella gas truck/SUV full synthetic 5Qt L2 Free After Rebate at Pep Boys with in store pickup offer expires 2/20/21 LINK Never needed synthetic before. My new to me 2019 2.5 OB drinks 0W-20 synthetic. Probably not top shelf pour like Amsoil but the youtube reviews seem OK. Thoughts? Pep Boys Free Shell Rotella Gas Truck Motor Oil (5w30, 0w20, 5w20) After Rebate Deal is back and valid Feb 21 to March 27 February 28, 2021,
  5. @GD. Just became the owner of a 2019 OB 2.5 that uses synthetic. What brand do you recommend? In the past, with my porous 05, I used the cheapest Dino I could find as it spent little time in the engine before fouling my driveway and undercoating the engine bay. As an aside, as I near 70 years on my personal odometer, I am thrilled that the oil filter now sits atop the engine for easy access. If only the drain plug was relocated to the front bumper...
  6. OK, I thought about washing and waxing but decided my 2005 Outback with 205,000 miles, CEL 5 codes P0174, 0420, 1155, wheel bearings shot, worn tires, leaking HGs, VC gaskets, power steering pump replacement leaking, brakes worn out, HVAC selector worn and not "selecting" (of issue since all the above mentioned leaking fluids that weren't trailing the car or polluting every place I parked, burnt off on the exhaust and made breathing a challenge in the car) was a car in need of a new car so I traded it in on a 2019 Outback Premium with 8K miles. I'll do just about anything to avoid washing and waxing a car.
  7. HF engine...now THAT is funny! I have some 20% off and other coupons if you need. At least then you'd get a free flashlight with purchase at HF to use to inspect the other car issues.
  8. Seems like overkill but hey if ya got a spare engine laying around... Thanks for the laugh. Good luck hunting down the gremlin.
  9. Have you tried pulling fuses to see what circuit has gone gerfarkt? Can you see any relays beneath the seat? Have you recently installed any aftermarket equipment? radio, lights etc? Make sure nothing has been jammed beneath the seat. water bottle, kid's feet that could have disengaged a connector.
  10. Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remoteOpen driver's door.Turn ignition key to 'On'Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard)After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming buttonPress lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time.Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off. Are you waiting the 15 seconds to get the lock cycle before the rest of the "handshake"?
  11. the "2008 donor car" FAIL and now for Act II of "glaring looks from her teenage face" ;-) be reminded that DAD is an acronym for Dumb As Dirt
  12. Try swapping coil and verify that some yutz didn't "misplace" the wires leading to cylinders firing out of order. Probably less noticeable on a V8 than on a 4 banger where fire would be shooting out of your nostrils.
  13. Are you the original owner or did you inherit a headache? Check coil? Are the wires routing correctly? Any arcing if you mist water around coil or wires? Did you do/change anything that precipitated the current status? Swapping parts is good diagnostic technique IF you are sure they are working donors.
  14. Before you go breaking anything... least is always best. See if just executing the relearn procedure solves your issues. Just a few minutes of your time and a few turns of the key, no wrenches or grease rags needed. Then if problem still exists, ask someone to hold your ankles as you dive in deeper. I ran into the same issue on my 05 OB Auto. I cleared the P0420 persistent code and forgot the patience part of relearning. Hopped in the car and drove away. Until I did the relearn, ran poorly and stalled as you describe. You did say you disconnected the battery (same as me clearing codes with a code reader) so you may have also not allowed the normal relearn sequence?
  15. Here's the link to sequence for relearning/recalibration. Or this link. If you are still having trouble and haven't cleaned the throttle body, follow the link below. Here's a link for cleaning the throttle body.
  16. Thanks for all the good info. I'd like to be able to move this discussion to the Repair Manual as a sticky. As I said, the question is repeated every so often and it would be great to be able to link to and further the discussion in one place. Mods, have at it. Thanks all.
  17. Glad to hear that Aisin water pumps pass your quality rating. I'm not sure if the rest of us can pull off the "wholesale side" though. Do you retail the kits you spec out and assemble? Since Gates kits went off the rails, I've seen numerous requests for alternatives and am trying to figure out the best way to go.
  18. " I can't even get a fuse in there and it will arc sparks and blow before it is fully inserted into the fuse block." Hate to waste another fuse but curious if you just separated the broken wires from each other you could diagnose this as the trouble area.
  19. step 1 : to gain access to make splices, first I rolled back the boot to locate breaks then I tied a piece of dental floss (I'm a retired dentist ;-)) to one of the loose ends and pulled it back out, spliced enough wire to make it work and then pulled the extended piece back through to reconnect to the other end of the broken wire. step 2 : discard floss
  20. There is an image within this linked thread of the wires I found broken inside the rubber boot on the passenger side of my 05 OB. I did the repair without digging in to find the connector for the harness. Initially, I didn't "see" the break but after tugging on each wire, it became obvious. That being said, if you can locate the harness upstream and disconnect, that is a more definitive diagnosis. You may ALSO have some crappy wire within the boot and tugging on wires may cause an additional problem that will confuse the issue if your initial gremlin lurks elsewhere.
  21. Thanks R. I wanted to be able to insert a modified player into the body instead of a hyperlink.
