  1. FAIL! Not exactly sure how the oil pan is stepped but regardless of how far I tried to place/manipulate the drain hose, it only sucked out about 3 quarts. Sucks... but not enough? And so then I had to wriggle under the car and finish the job old school. Oh, one more thing, what's with the combo handle for the jack where you have to thread the lug wrench through a small handle that engages the jack? OK now get off my lawn.
  2. just read operating instructions: 【Specificaiton】: Input Voltage: DC 12V; Wattage: 60W; Current: 5A;Motor Oil (40-60 degrees) Flow Rate: approx. 0.8-1.0L / min NONE of the various AZ or ebay listings specify degrees C, F or Kelvin...
  3. I just checked Az reviews. Some love it others suggest it could have burned their house down! Great... another project for the list... rebuild house.
  4. Yeah, checked HF too. Nothing special there. I ordered late yesterday & it will be here tomorrow. Gotta love Amazon/eBay. i feel like these items are already on a truck and half way up my driveway as I hit the order button. Should be easy enough to store rig in a small plastic bin, even smaller than a drain pan. I'll report back on speed of evacuation, maneuverability on snow and ice, etc. on this major investment.
  5. Herniated discs in back. Postponed surgery hoping for self-heal. Getting better but tried to climb under car to change oil and realized that my ability to get back up was limited. I understand dealerships are relying on pumping to change oil, no lift time, no cross threading drain plugs. Some cars being manufactured without drain plugs? Anyone have experience using something like THIS? Seems like less mess, draining directly into a waste container. No ground time. Filter is on top in the 2019 OB. Won't need to call 911 to get me off the ground.
  6. Bought 2019 OB used last year and was informed of benefit of being able to check for and install auto and infotainment updates in the convenience of my home over wifi. Never worked. Despite strong wifi signal in my own garage. Kept getting message "unable to download, blah blah blah". SOA insisted I visit local dealership. Lo and behold, dealers admit aware of same but that they have latest updates on USB stick so anytime I feel like wasting driving and waiting time, I am welcome to self-abuse myself. Well after months of playing "pitch a b*tch" with CSR at SOA, the engineers actually updated the program and I was able to download and install latest software and subsequently reported that the car has "the latest software installed.' So, good on them that they saw fit to update a 3+ year old car.
  7. too obvious to mention, but start simple. check hoses at radiator/engine for green crusty residue from tired hose clamps and leaks (happened to me causing momentary HG freakout) leaks can burn off on engine without puddling on the ground. did owner ever notice puddling or smells?
  8. FIRST, I like Idosubaru's suggestion to call SOA directly and inquire about TSB and repair. I know that issues like seat belts actually have a lifetime warranty and if you mention that, they might lean towards a "good will" gesture. That particular warranty does exclude electrical components... hmmm. What's the worse case? They say no? Have you seen this you tube video on how to get the sensor itself repaired? LINK Updated direct link with $100 price tag mentions B1650 code LINK Fault codes: B1650 29 ODS Failure Occupant Classification System Malfunction BTW, this company seems to provide various other computer related reset services.
  9. Might try swapping passenger side over to driver side to see if the issue is the box or just aftermarket crap axle? A lot of work but would be diagnostic.
  10. From the School of Look No Further, I would shimmy under and inspect the most recent axle foray.
  11. lifetime warranty or lifetime of replacing with aftermarket axles from what is reported hereabouts. swap the front tires R to L and see if the rumble follows the tire. probably best replacing tires as you plan and then start looking for demonic possession if symptoms persist. In the meantime, turn up the radio. common things happen most commonly.
  12. check and reseat wires into coil and on plugs (also verify proper order usually marked on coil) spray water at night on wires to see if any arcing visible (sparkles) I used to have an issue when damp/rainy outside 05 OB (#3 cylinder) and thought I needed to replace coil but just reseated wires and all has been good since.
  13. Had a 2000 Legacy and after a while it developed a whine from the pinion gear. Been a while but I think SOA replaced tranny under warranty. In law's same vintage HG went.
  14. Stomping on gas and taking off from a parking spot sounds like drive shaft, U joint. Any play? Subies are robust but not meant for Dukes of Hazzard jumps.
  15. After you erase the codes, start the car without depressing the gas pedal. it will run rough as the computer relearns the car. The first thing is to start the car and let it ideal for a few minutes. Nothing turned on and don't touch gas pedal. Let computer relearn the car. Best done with 1/2 tank of gas. The sequence described in the video is what I remember but It might take a few tries. I would try and plan on getting systems ready en route to test center. As soon as you get monitors ready, get in line at emissions testing center! Good luck.
  16. excellent point. I have a writeup here somewhere with pictures of that 'gaiter' with broken wires. Video of someone with similar issue who decided to disassemble the rear gate innards. I was lazy and just noted the broken wires, used a piece of dental floss (I'm a retired dentist) to pull the broken piece through the gaiter, tied on a piece of wire as a splice and dragged it back through and made the connections. I think there was a total of three wires that were gerschmucked and in need of handiwork. Lasted until I canned the car.
  17. Drove my 05 OB with P0420 for over 100K miles after it first popped on. Car died a peaceful death around 225K. It's an emissions code. Might come and go. Cruise will be disabled when the CEL is on. Get a cheap code reader if you think you might have other codes of concern. If you need inspection, there is a sequence of clearing the codes and getting enough systems ready to pass. I was told the tolerances on emissions was so tight on that car that it was easily over the limit. I replaced O2 sensors and original cat (bank1) with aftermarket and code immediately came back. Piece of black tape over the blinky dash lights and drove on. Cardoc over on subaruoutback.org has a couple hundred pages of posts that try to solve issue but I never got to the point of success. Stopped throwing my wallet at the car.
