  1. Tough call... a lot of variables being thrown into the mix. Quite possible it is only the front O2 sensor but you'll never know if you replace the front and rear with after market and have the experience as the one poster which was solved only after changing the front sensor... you may end up later changing the cat to find out that you still have the problem... related to a faulty front O2 sensor...
  2. I won't say nobody but if you do a search here, there are enough incident reports where codes are thrown and problems had and it leads back to aftermarket front O2 sensors. BTW, what are the symptoms you are having with your 2000 that you are trying to cure by throwing sensors at it??:-\
  3. Rule of thumb is use only genuine Subaru for the front O2 sensor. Apparently not as critical for the rear. Check some of the online dealers like subarupartsforyou.com Anthony is very helpful.
  4. Durania, I hope you had survival gear with you, venturing off road like that At least you could have foraged at the bird feeder in the tree in a pinch.
  5. OK Here's another thought. Try and see if the Trans X people will be appearing at any of the European trade shows. You just might want to meet up with them to discuss opening a "small" franchise of say... 2 or 3 bottles to start
  6. Ship tranny to Nipper to install Trans-x. Nipper drives tranny around US (trying not to trash another engine) ships tranny back to Europe... problem solved. Happy Thanksgiving from this side of the great waters.
  7. That's only the half of it Mr. Sucks. You think we'd be able to pull out that little cubby hole insert where the owners manual sits and just slip in your new filter but NO. It doesn't line up. Off by about 5"! I don't know about the MY10 but in my 08 you have to remove the entire glove box (make sure you don't break at least one retaining clip on the side trim piece facing the door) and then an access panel. In the 05 as you point out, you have to remove half of the console trim and the glove box (don't forget the trim piece mentioned above) and the rear glove box trim panel. Dealer wants over $100 parts and labor for the job. Interval recommended 15K miles. Unfortunate design flaw passed down the line to the customer. I feel like taking a dremel to the rear trim panel an making my own mod. I'd still have to drop the glove box though. C'mon SOA. I know it's not the space shuttle (remember the o-rings) but I hate sloppy designs.
  8. Finally getting around to trying to change the cabin air filter on my 05 outback wagon. I can't seem to drop the glove box to access the poorly designed/located cabin air filter. Anyone have a schematic with screws noted before I start removing the timing belt cover ;-)
  9. What brand CV joints/transaxles did you use? I seem to remember a running post a while ago about just this sort of vibration that was pegged to the transaxles.
  10. Sounds like the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. Instead of taking on someone else's headaches, why not start a post on the site about your stuttering problem in your current car? If you can fix that for a few bucks, then keep on driving!
  11. Sorry for my misunderstanding. Traction ratings are A for BFG Traction TA/T and the original equipment. Aside from the lower speed rating of T versus V, the BF Goodrich Traction TA/T also has a B temperature rating compared to the original A rating. Wear rating is much better for BFGs. There are warnings not to downgrade this rating when replacing tires. More comments??
  12. I was leaning towards the BFG Traction TA/T tires but now a question arises that I never even considered:the stopping distance of a T tire is greater than a V tire! Apparently the rating is not just a matter of speed?! Any thoughts from Safety Sam (or anyone else that wants to discuss)?
  13. That explains why it didn't show up. Good sleuthing. And also, not likely I'll be nearing those speeds. Thanks again.
  14. Fairtax, Thanks for the link. They were not showing up in my search. Through your link, Tirerack reports they will be available 10/3 from my local warehouse. I can wait a few days for these. Seems like a good deal. I have an 08 OB. The tires only have 35K 6/32 tread remaining but one has a small cut that has frayed the belt. Drats!
  15. Hey Nipper, I got the GY Triple Treds for my wife's 05 OB because I thought you had recommended them. Did you ever own the GY Triple Treds?? If not, it must have been my misunderstanding. Tirerack has the BFG TAs for $116. Which version TA did you get? Was it the Traction as above? We live in CT.
  16. Starting a new post. 225/55/17 Falken 912 $85 General Altimax HP $108 Original Bridgestones (not really considering these) $121 Goodyear Triple Tred $144 I found the GY Triple Treds noisy on my wife's 05 OB so I was looking for a quieter option. Altimax has same overall rating on Tirerack.com as the pricey Triple Treds but Tirerack doesn't carry or compare Falken (suggested by a board member) with the others SO... Waddayathink?
  17. Where'd you find a comparison between the Falkens and the Generals? Which 912 did you get? UHP or HP or something else? I hope these are good in the snow considering where you live ey?
  18. Any opinions on General Altimax HP tires for my 08 OB? I have Goodyear Triple Treds on my 05 OB and find them noisy.
  19. Just noticed a gash on the sidewall of one of my front tires 08 OB that goes down to the steel belt layer. YIKES! With 35K miles on the car, there is still plenty of tread on the tires. Is it still considered a MUST to replace all 4 tires? In replacing one or as I think you'll recommend all 4, any recommendations? The original equipped Bridgestone Potenzas are fairly quiet compared to the very noisy but highly rated Goodyear TripleTred I installed on my 05. Tirerack.com ratings are very low for the Potenzas.
  20. I spoke with Alpine tech support and as mentioned by others, you need to find the "Valet" button (or toggle switch?) that is up under the dash and press it while the key is in the ignition. Happy hunting since as others said, sometimes it's buried up in there.
  21. Try this: Put key in drivers door and unlock and lock twice or three times. Edit: Doesn't work Sorry.
  22. http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyless.html I don't see a solution for your model year on the site linked above but some of the other solutions for disarming (valet mode) for other year/models may work...worth a try OR call a dealer and ask the service manager. They were very helpful when my wife had the car and triggered the alarm by accident w/o a remote. or call 1-800-Alpine1 for the solution from Alpine
