  1. Nippy, you show your age, young fellow. Age does have its benefits in experience as possibly in this case. Hopefully the driver is OK?
  2. If the tranny is the same as my 2000 Legacy AT, there is a known delayed engagement issue?? When mine went, SOA replaced the tranny under warranty but I think that's because they didn't want techs futzing around with tranny innards. The fix might not be so daunting for a tranny shop. Not sure.
  3. How were you able to break in? I am studying Car Theft 101 and would like to add to my skills.
  4. Hey Nip, I've always wondered if you ever completely change the fluid with the sequential drain and fill method or you just dilute the contaminants that remain in the 2/3 total volume that remained from the first drain and at each subsequent drain and fill. Riddle me that Batman;)
  5. Is there a sunroof and did you notice this after a rain or has it been dry where you are? There are drain lines from up yonder that can clog or separate and the sunroof gasket can leak as well. There is a TSB about water coming in around the map light area if you go to NHTSA website. I guess you coul drain the washer tank and run the lines dry and see if the car dries up in a few days to eliminate (or convict) the washer line as a culprit. There are drain holes in front of the windshield under the hood at the corners that can become clogged by leaves etc. and allow water to enter through the fresh air vent.
  6. I'm getting a feeling... a dark feeling... looking at the pictures that that blue car is about... it's about... to throw a rod...
  7. This is great info if it can be put in the Repair Manual section for safekeeping. A picture says it all when you forgot to drop breadcrumbs along the trail to guide you back.
  8. You may have spoken too soon. The following link speaks to Subaru's search for that Italian, French, Grecian influence. If my memory serves me correctly, the 80-90s style shift was ushered in by an Italian designer. http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=3553&vf=1
  9. The side view in the original post does hint at the snout but the overhead shot on that same page shows that it is not the B9 nose (hate it). Don't worry Nipper... some day SOA will make another blue car....
  10. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov I found a TSB about harsh engagement on 2000s. Not sure if this is the same as the delayed engagement finally banging into gear. This is the NHTSA site and you can search your vehicle and year for all recalls and TSBs.
  11. My 2000 had a problem with delayed engagement at around 57,000 miles. Apparently there was a known problem with a failing seal inside tranny. Tranny was replaced under warranty. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try a few drain and refills with Dextron tranny fluid and see if it helped.
  12. SubaruPartsForYou.com in Milford CT (aka Dan Perkins Subaru) Speak to Anthony and mention this site.
  13. About $20 total from WalMart for 2 cans and the do it yourself kit. Pretty simple. I did it last summer and yup I'm pretty simple. Do a search here for techniques and warnings.
  14. The obvious question is... were you using Dino or Synthetic? Kidding;). Glad you passed the obstacle part of the driving test!
