  1. I like the suggestion of asking they apply the $500 "good will" to the existing engine. The cost of advertising being what it is, that money may be well spent if it keeps that acidic taste off your tongue when you speak to others about your experience.
  2. Since SOA has been so accomodating, perhaps it is time for Plan B as outlined by another poster to this site.
  3. I've been told the usual area of failure is just behind cyl #4 (driver's side rear).
  4. Did you buy private or from dealer? BTW, Mystic is a bit of a drive to deal with this.
  5. Dan Perkins online price http://www.subarupartsforyou.com is $74 for front O2 sensor for your vehicle. You can walk in and ask for the online price. They're in Milford off exit 35-36 on Rt95. Very helpful. Mention this message board to Anthony.
  6. Like the Nipster said, be nice. Loosing the dogs on them immediately will only make them run for cover. Discuss with the local dealer that you have noticed the smell of antifreeze for QUITE some time but never thought to check since you were quite certain that SOA's "fix" had been taken care of under the approved recall. You had thought that the ticking time bomb had been disarmed, not just equipped with a slower burning fuse or delayed timer! NEVER would you have any reason to doubt that their "fix" was anything but the guarantee of reliability that you have come to expect of a fine manufacturer like Subaru. Then immediately go and brush your teeth after talking such s%^t. PS: Where in SE CT are you? I use Dan Perkins in Milford and they've gone to bat for me over the years.
  7. I'll bet it's the front O2 sensor. BTW, there was a recall on my 2000 Legacy front O2 sensor as they were prone to cracks...
  8. Use the Search function. Clunk sound at slow speeds as when turning into a driveway over a small bump? This was diagnosed as hydraulic knock on my 2000 Legacy and I was told that it was present in many previous years. There is a kit that ? fixes it by installing a damper in the power steering fluid line. It's certainly less problematic than the dreaded torque bind.
  9. Alls I know is what I reads in the funny papers... The following link is the one I was referencing. Keep us posted.http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9821
  10. Any chance fuel pickup related? Earlier post on related question suggested trying reverse up steep hill to see if problem occurs as fuel delivery would be gravity fed. If not a problem then fuel delivery is suspect.
  11. Pine scented air freshener, or was that damaged in the mild altercation? Having seen the original pictures, I still think you could have buffed out the damage. Seriously, good luck going forward (not end over end).
  12. What GBHRPS said... lower window, grasp rubber riangele and you'll feel metal framework within. Squeeze gently along the edge and test drikve. Repeat until happiness arives.
  13. Gussets (traingular piece) at the leading edge of the front windows? Use the search function on this site as it has been covered. Does the noise change if you play with the window, pressing out or pulling in?
  14. Look carefully for source of leak. Removing the timing belt cover should make it easier to see if the water pump is the culprit. Can you keep an eye on the radiator and hoses to see if they are the culprit. While this involves some "down and dirty" time of your own, this sort of diagnosis may remove the guesswork. There is also a dye that can be added to the coolant that can be detected under UV light.
  15. Find a new mechanic. Proper installation using genuine SOA parts as well as shims and anti-squeal grease that comes with the pads has always worked fine for me.
  16. If the boot is broken, CV joint grease sprayed onto exhaust or for that matter, any other dripping oil can produce some pretty nasty smells. Clean engine and then check for leaks and any dark burnt on areas on the exhaust.
  17. I assume your car was recalled and the additive to extend HG warranty to 100K miles / 8years? Check with SOA that this recall was performed. If you are going to change the coolant, be sure to add the Subaru additive to the coolant and keep a record of the purchase and mileage so as to keep the extended warranty valid. NOTE: check on this site for nuances of refilling and bleeding the coolant system. If not done properly, you can cause air pockets that allow for local areas of overheating and ... yup, you guessed it, HG failure!
  18. Not exotic but ... plug wires? Once, when young and in a hurry, I did a 6 hour drive averaging over 90mph and the next morning the car ran like crap... changed wires and all was good.
