  1. Is there a repair for repairing the rubberized material that the new bumpers/grillwork is made from? I tried Bondo but it doesn't adhere. I have to repair a broken piece so it's not just a fill in.
  2. ADMIRABLE. Though I probably will never pull a piston, the video was inforamtive and fun to watch. Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks for yor efforts.
  3. You can get a small funnel with a long spout at WalMart for about $3. Beats growing another set of hands.
  4. While I have already given my thumbs down on the new grill on the Tribecca, I saw the same at the JDM website on the Imprezza and it doesn't seem as ridiculous in that scale... I think it's a matter of contributing to the overall esthetic imbalance on the Tribecca. Now, some of the other Subaru models on the site, apparently not US available, such as the Sambar and Pleo leave me totally perplexed and unimpressed style wise.
  5. Update: In spite of using 4 tanks of 93 octane Mobil (car should run on 87 as per SOA), the car still pings under light load just at about the 35mph mark. 73,000 miles. Had new air and gas filter and plugs, timing checked and adjusted (off on cam from factory), decarboned with SeaFoam three times and throttle body cleaned. knock sensor changed. Aside from posting your octane and pinging experiences with 99-03 vintages, if anyone has any suggestions, please unstump me.
  6. As a brain surgeon once told me, confidence lacking competence is very dangerous. Knowing when to say when is an indicator of good judgement.
  7. First thing is to dump all the gas from any yard power tools and then wrap your wrist in an ace bandage so as to eliminate need to use hand tools. Sheared off bolt... sorry, just bad luck.
  8. Isn't there a Mercedes that has the mail truck look as well? PS The Tribecca is definitely NOT for me.
  9. OK so what's with the gremlins in the 05 headlights? Two friends with 05 OBs have had the bulbs replaced. I'm now waiting for mine to go and will feel cheated if I don't have the same problem.
  10. Commendable for helping a member with a nod to the board. Sorry to hear about the ear problem...
  11. Had a 90 Loyale until last year. Had 160,000 miles when I sold it. Yup, leaky engine seals. Could have used it to generate income "sealing" asphalt driveways. Other than that, I abused it to no end and it kept on ticking. Rusted here in the NE. 27,000 miles??? seems like a find. How much? How is the exhaust etc. any rust?
  12. Start with the heat shields. Get down and dirty and start banging on the exhaust at various points. You may be "lucky" and are the victim of heat shield vibration.
  13. Seems a common problem. Apparently the solder joint on a resistor fails. There is actually someone on the site who will fix it for free. Use the search function. His member ID is NorthWet.
  14. "For those who say 'this isn't aimed at the typical Subaru customer', I have to agree, but I would remind Fuji Heavy Industries that people who are blind and/or insane are probably not a good market upon which to base an all-new vehicle." Blind and insane drivers? How many of them are out there... and don't forget to include L.A. drivers. If they could just capture that market share alone... it would be a boost to their bottom line. Martin, your comments are far too sensible and should be kept tucked away safely in CO. far from our seat of government.
  15. Is it by chance leaking at the drain plug? The plug requires a new(?) crush washer which is the same type crush washer as on the oil drain plug.
  16. That's a noteworthy observation. I wonder if one of the tech gearheads can explain the whys and hows. I assume we are talking about regular operating temperatures and all other things being equal?
  17. There is a TSB on delayed engagement at the NHTSA site. When you shift from reverse to drive, there is a noticeable delay in engagement, with a clunk. There may also be something about hard shifts on that site. Is the car still covered under the 5 year 60K warranty or did you get some sort of warranty from the seller? I had the transmiision on my 2000 Legacy GT AT replaced under warranty... twice! Good luck.
  18. Washington state, yeah, it's a long way to drive with a slipping clutch.
  19. Slipping in high gears, gradually progressing to slipping in lower gears. The cable was adjusted out so there was play when at rest, then came the God awful smell of the clutch burning apparently as it was slipping and sliding but not grabbing. Car was a freebie to begin with and intended for a 16 year old new driver. Thankfully she wasn't driving when it gave up the ghost on the parkway. R.I.P.
  20. Bad news: Well, the 93 Legacy white wagon with 180K gave up the clutch today. This car had been given a second life when Oobnuker basically donated tan interior door panels and seatbelt retractors to replace the blue dog chewed ones from the previous owner. Besides the clutch and the usual murky headlamp lens, it ran fine. Good tires and a loud radio. Woohoo. Good news: This is a giveaway! If Moosens or another member doesn't get there first, it will be donated to whatever bogus charity comes for it. It is located at a gas station in Orange, CT. near the Merritt Pkwy. Come 'n get it.
  21. In theory I might agree with Brian's Peace, Love and Woodstock approach. However I own one of the 05 OBs in question. Granted, I don't use cruise control but if the system worked "flawlessly" in the past, I find it hard to excuse engineering standards below what previously existed. I accept the notion that cars are works in progress and I am sure that SOA is working on a retro-fix as they have done in the past for quirks that arise in new models but I feel it necessary that they continue to hear from those who find fault with their brandy new cars (which are soon to be last year's models).
  22. This is from the link I gave previously... Programming or Overriding the Alarm when you have lost the remote Open driver's door. Turn ignition key to 'On' Press and *hold programming button* in (see diagram, button under dashboard) After 15 seconds the the door locks will cycle 3 times. Do not release Programming button Press lock (left) button the remotes to be programmed. The door locks will cycle one time. Exit programming mode by releasing Programming button under dashboard and turning key to off. Code Alarm Programming Button is under dashboard on the kick panel by the driver's left knee, left of the steering column. If you can't find it, it might still be tucked up in the wiring harness higher up in that same general area. The botton is recessed in a plastic ring (see diagram).
