  1. I took a blow dryer and heated up the water drains in the A pillar, reconnected the hoses, tie wrapped them on and was dry for a year. Sold the car, but bet it is still dry if it is on the road yet. since.
  2. Thanks, I am glad to hear this as car-part usually is a pretty good source for compatibility, but i wanted to understand the why. Thanks everyone for their comments.
  3. I was looking at car-part to see which manual trans will fit in my legacy wagon and it shows that a many legacy trans will work from 2001-2003. But it does not list outback or legacy GT models. Is there really a difference?
  4. I would go to edmunds (used car appraisal) and price it up like it is in running condition and in the condition average, good etc that it is in. Then subtract the repair. Scrap is a couple hundred.
  5. yup, exhaust valves. Well, engine is coming out to fix the valves and the rear main is leaking and HG are starting to seep.
  6. put in new plugs and replaced the knock sensor after getting a code for it. Still getting misfire in 1 and 3. I also put in some premium fuel and some fuel injector cleaner as a last ditch. Seems to run better than it did before, but still is send me a pending code and eventual code for miss on 1 and 3.
  7. so I swapped a working coil and 2 known good wires and same behavior. I am going to pull the plugs on that side next but my gut is telling me it is the exhaust valves. there was a little bit of oil on the plug wire of #3, but not dripping.
  8. I just bought a 2002 forester S with 200k. Drives ok, but at idle the motor is shaking a little and the exhaust is sputtering. I ran the codes and they were initially po301, po302, po420 and po442. Previous owner couldn't pass emissions he says and gave up on her. I cleared and drove it some more and got back a pending po301 and a po302 and that is it. I was thinking of switching the wires from side to side and putting on a spare coil I have to start. I figure it could be injectors or valves after that. Anyone else have an opinion?
  9. try car-part.com and just get a whole headlight assembly or look under the items for sale on this site. One of the people who have parts addictions might be able to help.
  10. Oh cr^&%! It sets the air bag light and the cruise doesn't work not the ABS. Thanks for correcting me.
  11. sorry, but same thing happened to me twice and it was the clock spring both times. I agree with the other guys though ...Get the codes read. If it is the clock spring, then it was a good guess
  12. Doing a swap Thursday and want to refresh my memory on what is different if anything on the 2.5 forester and outback engine. I will swap the intakes, but wasn't there a cam gear that is different between the two? Anything else I am missing? Thanks
  13. It is an 06 which is an interference motor. look at car-part.com for a used motor or pull the existing one and replace valves/rebuild heads.
  14. lubricate the lift handle and work it a bunch back and forth. That should take care of it. Mine did the same.
  15. If the engine is out of a 2008 outback wagon, can I haul it with a car dolly without harming the trans or AWD?
  16. Just had the same thing with my 02 outback. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the problem went away.
  17. https://corvallis.craigslist.org/spo/6092611661.html Here is one with correct bars, canoe holder, but wrong feet for the rack. You could buy 415 feet or 450 feet. Grab locks if the VW feet have them, sell the rest back on craigslist or ebay.
  18. https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/pts/6077263469.html like this. I know you are in Oregon, but you get the idea. I am not a huge fan or rigging a roof system as it can come off the roof with the canoe and fall on the road.......with cars following you. Don't laugh, I've see it.
  19. 2000-2004 sticks have a nicer ride than the 97-99. Ditto on the 2.5 comments of that era from adventure Subaru.
  20. get a used thule off craigs list with 60 square " bars and and some cross road 450's. That way you add all sorts of other rack options later for kayaks, snow boards etc. $100 ought to do it.
