  1. Has anyone replaced the lifters on a 2.2 with Rock auto or other 3rd party lifters versus genuine Subaru lifters? Looking for opinions. I need to replace 2 on intake of cyl #1 and can't get the factory ones till next week, but can get DNJ ones this week. Car is not moving and I need it to move if you catch my drift. What do you all think?
  2. They are fun to listen to and they make me laugh. I think most of the show is reruns these days.
  3. Thanks. I hope I get lucky. I could always use the parts from the other head to rebuild the screwed up one correct?
  4. I just bought a 97 with a bad head and have a spare from another gen 1 2.5 outback . I don't have the car yet to compare and wonder if one of you knows whether they are interchangeable? Thanks and Happy Holidays to all of the USMB'rs out there!!
  5. I give mine mid-grade and sometimes 87. Seems to run a bit faster with the higher octane stuff. 118K on mine and loving it.
  6. I get the buzz in the back , so I will for sure check the heat shield in the back above the muffler. Thanks for all of the comments.
  7. It has a slight buzz or vibration. My mechanic is my neighbor and I trust him. I think I am going to drive it till it falls off for that money and then look at a rock auto one after that. thanks for the help and suggestions.
  8. I just about fell over when I heard that a muffler for a 02 3.0 LL Bean will cost me almost $500.00. I confirmed the part number as 44300AE20A based on my VIN. The part seems unique and Walker doesn't make one as a replacement. Usually a muffler is about $75.00. Anybody else find a better solution to the OEM pain of $480?
  9. Heartless, good luck with this one, it looks pretty nice for what you paid. I have lots of subie parts from all of the transplants I have done. If you have a specific need, ping me and I will help you if i can. I am in Milwaukee and if I have extra, you can have it. I know there is a 98 forester at my mechanic's yard abandoned rotting with a bad motor. I will see if it has a rear wiper and motor if he will give up for free.
  10. I bought one on ebay for $5.00. I would send it to you, but it is the wrong year and it is huge.
  11. I had a couple of these vibrate after a single axle replacement, but when I replace them in pairs-no vibration. My 2 cents
  12. 8 K is way too rich. You can pick those up all day for 2-2500. Davebugs is right on for what to look for.
  13. I'd sell it since you are not in love with it. One of the gang here will take her off you hands I bet.
  14. I agree with grossgary, take it to the dealer. That is what the warranty is for. Good luck.
  15. I would hit up the dealer and see if they will do them. I complained on behalf of one of my friends in the Milwaukee are at the same year and mileage on her Forester and bithced a bit to the local subaur manuf rep adn they gave her a great deal. I think she paid $400 of the $2700 bill.
  16. I have a 95 2.2 that just had new HG, all new engine gaskets, timing belt water pump, cam seals, plugs the works done and then the buddy I had this done for ran the car off the road. The engine ran great and can be had if you are interested. It is still in the car and it is in Wausaukee WI now, but can be shipped. Let me know if you have an interest. You can have the whole car for $600. You will need a flatbed although I think it can be driven onto a trailer.
  17. Miles, I fixed up a 96 outback for my attorney's brother in law. He unfortunately crashed it it off the side of the road. I think it is repairable and it has a low mileage 2.2 that had new HG, timing belt, plug..the works done to it. It also had the duty c repaired.

I think you could fix her up and make some dough on it. No broken glass, just dented panels and a bent strut.

Lots of good parts. You interested for $500. It is up in Wausaukee.

  18. Do you hae a cheap 96 right front fender for an OB that is green?
  19. I would offer 2100 and if you need to do HG's, you are still OK on hte car. I wouldn't replace with a 2.2 unless the engine had problems. 2.5's are not bad motors unless they get overheated or are run without oil. The 2.2 is a lower maint motor, but if it runs well, keep it.
  20. Sounds like a headgasket to me as well, however i would check the basics though. Is the radiator full? Is the radiator circulating properly? Is the radiator cap functioning properly?
  21. I wouldn't use that. I would try the $3.00 conditioner at the subaru dealer. Make sure your heater is off so it doesn't go through your heater core and clog in up.
