  1. Bummer. My wife just got hit in our 2000 subaru OB. The insurance company totaled it. I bought it back. In WI, since it was older than 7 years, I don't need to do a salvage title. Not like the damage was bad either. It got a new strut, new wheel bearing and a LF fender and it will be like it never happened. I pick it up Tuesday. It looks like 1-2 new fenders at most, a hood with grill, a couple of lights, a radiator, some adjustments and you might be back on the road. All of that can be had for relatively cheap at a yard. I use Car-part.com all of the time for this kind of stuff. If you can get them the same color, no paint needed. If you get them all from the same car, that is better as it might be a better match. I'd estimate $600-800 in used parts. You shouldl be able to get the car back for about $400-500. Glad no one got hurt.
  2. Don't get me wrong, the subaru conditioner is good stuff and I use it on all the 2.5 gen II's. I think the stuff works well as a preventive tool, but not to fix HG problems. The HG fix in a bottle is a hope and a prayer, but it can gunk up your motor, radiator, water pump.......etc. ..but if you feel compelled to try it, go for it and I hope it wroks for you.
  3. Sorry, but IMHO, I wouldn't use the block seal crap or HG repair crap in a bottle. It just makes a big mess of things internally.....think radiator, heater core etc..... stuff may get plugged that you want to flow.
  4. My 02 H6 had a similar issue. Turned out the o ring was bad. Replaced that, recharged and cool air once again. Ahhhhhhhhhhh..........................!
  5. The blue bottle of conditioner is really for the gen II motors with an slight seep of coolant, now what he is describing. I usually buy a car like that for 550-1000 depending on condition, miles and model.
  6. Can I put in a 2004 2.5 outback motor from an automatic car into a 2000 manual trans outback? Anybody know for sure?
  7. I agree, I would go to a shop. My buddy recently tried to fix his his AC himself and blew up a couple of hoses and the damaged the compressor. Hmmmm $150 check to write or $900 later.
  8. Go for the H6. The ride is better in that car and the engine is one of the better ones they made in my opinion. I have had my 02 L Bean wagon for about 50,000 miles now. I did the bearing and pulleys as a preventive maintenance piece at about 80K and oils changes. Great Motor, Lots of giddy up at the entrance ramp etc....
  9. JIm, It sounds like you might have a couple of demons to chase. You can start with swapping out the left axle, but can you tell us all a little more about the transmission repair. Without that. I can't really say much more.
  10. Just paid to have one done on a 96 outback. About $100 for the duty c and the various seals etc and $180 in labor. Runs like a champ now. We had teh 16 AT oil lamp flash, a little bit of torque bind, but a smooth shifting trans before and after duty c.
  11. Adventuresubaru, I ended up putting a 2001 trans in there after thinking a while about the delayed engage problem on the 2000 trannies. Thanks for the offer though.
  12. I think the GenII 2.5's are a better motor than the Gen I 2.5's. My 2cents.
  13. What else can you tell me about it? Is it a known working unit? I hate to put it in and then have to take it out. How long has it been sitting? Thanks
  14. Thanks, that might work. How many miles on the trans and how much if you would consider selling the whole thing?
  15. I was blowing cylinder misfires, temp sensor codes ans P0420's for two weeks. I repaced the temp sensor, replaced the NGK plugs and Subaru plug wires and no codes for a month. Also picked up 4MPG
  16. I will check in the AM. If the fluid level is low, then then the front diff is probably roasted then correct? And I understand if that is the deal, then a new used trans is probably better then correct?
  17. Need some advice. Just bought a 2001 OB with auto trans. 217K miles. Moves in D and R, but makes horendous knashy clicky noise under pressure. PO put in two new axles 6 months ago. Today, I was barely able to drive it up on a trailer in R. Seems worse (noisier, when turning wheels to steer) PO said cars trans was whinning for about 3 months before it made the big nasty noises it makes now. He drove it almost an hour each way for commuting beofre this. It sounds like a bad front diff. Or could the axles have been put in wrong and just went to hell? Ideas welcome.
  18. My clock spring went bad and did someo fo those things. Does your cruise contraol act up at the same time?
