  1. probably it is coming in through the taillights. Get some of that 3m flexible sealant rope and use it around the tailight where it meets the car body.
  2. like the Aisin timing kits the best. They are worth the extra money as they include quality components. Especially a good water pump and idlers etc. Gates which used to be my go to, is off the list. They are a price leader, but had to replace 2 water pumps after months not years in the car. That was the end for me.
  3. Most of the ones I see that have failed have to do with lack of timing belt maintenance or timing belt and lack of idler replacement when the timing service is done. The balance has been lack of oil in the engine through sheer neglect. If your car is older, check the oil at every gas fill I tell my kids.
  4. Hang in there everybody. I have a 2014 3.6 with a trans not the CVT. Highly recommend it. 22-25 mpg overall. Have about 70 K on it as it my work car and mostly for commute etc. Have had very few maintenance issues so far. Oil, tires, brakes, trans fluid drain and fill and that is about it. If you could find one of those, I don't think you would be sad. Great punch even in the mountains.
  5. I have used Fel-pro a bunch of times. When the block and heads are prepped properly, I have never had a recurring HG issue.
  6. I have a 2014 Outback with the 3.6 and the regular transmission. Love it and the extra room is nice for the longer weekender trips with the Labrador and cooler. I understand GD's concerns, but also like my newer Subaru. My wife has a 2017 Impreza hatchback which is also fun to drive. I would go to a different Subaru dealer or ask for a different salesperson. I am a Subaru Ambassador so if you do intend to buy a new one PM me.
  7. I like to buy them cheap with a bad trans or engine and then start from scratch with new head-gaskets, timing belt, idlers, water pump, etc or trans drain and fill, or clutch , all fluids changed, whatever it needs and then drive it. That way, you don't end upside down on it.

  9. so a 2001 or 2002 from another outback will have the same gear ratio and will work correct. I want to to try to swap in the replacement trans only if possible.
  10. Just bought a 2000 Subaru outback with a bad manual trans. Car-part tells me 2000 is the only match. Surprised a 2001 or 2002 wouldn't swap in? Anyone know?
  11. Is swapping a cvt trans as a whole unit the same as most other transmissions or are there any gotchas?
  12. I have done the 95 2.2 transplant several times on the 96 -99 outbacks, but wanted to confirm that I can put a 99 phase II 2.2 into a 2003 legacy wagon with a 2.5 without cpu changes.
  13. The shop where I take my Subaru 's just bough a 98 or 99 Subaru Outback from an estate with 20,000 miles. The interior and exterior are in great condition. It drives great, everything works and the underside of the vehicle is a little dusty , but no rust. Tires look new and brakes are recent. For WI, this is an unbelievably nice ride. Any ideas what is is worth?
  14. I have used it on all sorts of different cars that have obdii ports. It never has failed me.
