  1. you can use car-part.com or Rock auto to compare part numbers. Some are used on the 01, many others are not.
  2. They could be related, ,but it could head gaskets leaking and the issue that makes p0298 happen. OBD2 Code P0298 Subaru definition:Indicates the Engine Oil Temperature Protection (EOT) strategy in the Power Train Control Module (PCM) has been activated. This temporarily prohibits high engine speed operation by disabling injectors, reducing the risk of engine damage from high engine oil temperature. Note: On engines which are equipped with an oil temperature sensor, the PCM reads oil temperature to determine if it is excessive. When an oil temperature sensor is not present, the PCM uses an oil algorithm to infer actual temperature. Engine shutdown strategy function is the same on vehicles with and without oil temperature sensors.
  3. Do the dull basics first. Get good wipers, make sure the brakes and tires are good. Maybe upgrade the stereo and speakers and then just drive it and have fun.
  4. The warranty tag was for 2009. Usually they offer a 30-60 or 90 day warranty on a yard engine. That has been my experience. Do they offer total rebuilds and go 3 yrs 36K?
  5. I would take it back to where you had the work done and ask them to look into it. It might be something they installed wrong. Maybe not, but worth checking out.
  6. yup, I have seen this in Wisconsin when it gets that cold and the car gets up in miles. Just warm it up a little longer and go slower at first.
  7. I agree. Engine is done for. check car-part.com for a decent used engine. Then do the Head Gaskets, all engine seals and water pump, timing belt and all idlers when it is out of the car. Use the aisin timing kit. Sell the used engine for the heads to recoup some $ later, but keep it until swap is done.
  8. i don't think so. a local craigslist search usually gets the ones you need or check car-part.com
  9. I have used fel pro head gasket kits with good success for years. I do like the Subaru cam gaskets and thermostats and ASIS water pump timing kits.
  10. curious, I just pulled a bad 2008 2.5 out of an impreza. Could I use that crank and cam sprocket instead so to keep the 2005 mostly intact.
