Yes its a turbo. These codes will help thank you. I next need to find out if the "shift solenoid d" can be replaced or if the whole valve body needs to be replaced altogether. What are the risks of doing the valve body myself. Either way, ill need to identify a reseller who can get me those parts either remanufacired or new.

OK so the code on the bell housing is TZ1B5LHYAA-1L its throwing the "Shift Solenoid D" CEL code with AT Oil Temp light flashing. I cant get out of 1st gear, off and on. I was told I can replace the valve body, but, when i ordered the 2nd generation from transstar which was supposed to fit the 2004 XT, it did not fit. So does any1 know which transmsisison I have and how to fix this shift issue? Thanks

Yes. I believe this happened because I selected USA only. When I removed this it seems to work and I get results, thanks. Still trying to find the transmission code near the starter. I can see the starter but no code on the bell housing. The Turbo radiator blocks my ability to see very well in there. MIght have to remove it just so I can see if there is a code...

I have not looked @ the bell housing near the starter for that code but I will do that ASAP. Will have to figure out where the starter is first . Thanks.

Hello I have a 2004 Forester XT throwing a CEL code "Shift Solenoid D" as well as the AT Oil Temp light blinking. Its causing me to get stuck in 1st gear off and on. Problem is, the transmission is apparently not from my year car. No one told me this when I bought it. Several mechanics cannot figure out what year its from, and most are afraid to drop to pan to look at the valve body if they dont know what year the trans is from. I tried replacing valve body from 2nd generation stock XT trans and it doesnt fit. 2 questions: 1. Does someone know how to identify which year/model transmission I have? 2. What year transmissions will fit if I have to replace the whole thing? 3. Where to get a decent used trans that will fit? Thanks
