  1. what kinds of things would happen if a three speed auto (3.7:1) was hooked to a 3.9:1 rear? see, the rear on my dads loyale automatic is a 3.9 and maybe the slipping in first and shuddering when when shifting into second is from damage or stress caused by having the wrong rear end on it? I am going out on a limb here, it's prob just worn out. -AK
  2. oh... ok. well, proved wrong again.
  3. Well, it happened, I was wrong about a subaru. we were calling to buy a tranny for the loyale and they asked what rear end it had, I said 3.7, thats what all autos have, but dad thought it would be best too check anyway, turns out it is a 3.9:1. how common is it for a auto to have a 3.9? I never knew they had it.
  4. maybe. would have to know what he plans on charging, though
  5. there is a difference in gearing between 83-84, but they fit in all the same.
  6. yes, Its my only brat. I wish I had more than one can somebody give me a ballpark of what this hijet might be worth? i'll check on tue to get mileage, looks dented up but in good condition otherwise. I think it is a mid 90's. -AK
  7. Hijet & 360 Van comparison http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/267346/5 P.S. I got my Brat Primered and wet-sanded, I put pics on page 3 of link above I am sure disney used it to haul employees, sure it's got the "Disney" sticker, but it also has "48" on the front, Probably meaning it was #48 of their fleet. anybody know what it might be worth?
  8. found it! it's a dihatsu "hijet" (yes hijet-not midget) I took some pics and will put them on brat site when I get home it had a disney sticker on the side, maybe they bought them to ferry imployes around, and it somehow made its way up here. or somebody put a disney sticker on it. anyway, it was cool, might try to buy it. -AK
  9. what are the clutch packs? (they ingage the different planetary things right?) are they some kind of big plastic washer? because I found half of a plastic washer (about 3'' in diameter) in the fluid pan and i have been trying to find out what it is. other than that it sounds like a new tranny is in order -AK
  10. no man, it was moved out front, and it's not a 360 van it's somethign that looks alot like it. when i get the chance I will take some pics of it
  11. saw it parked out back, will stop later, it looks like a 360 but the tailights are different and it has conventional style wheels. not a 360 but very close. I'll get some pics when I stop.
  12. it has 230,000 miles. could I get some serious answers?, not to be rude or anything but I want to fix this.
  13. I went to look at it on the way to school and it was gone! NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
  14. It is a 4wd 3AT 92 loyale ok, I cleaned and honed the govenor stuff, so it is not that, it slides "like butter" as the usrm says this is what happens: it shudders going into second if you put more than normal stress on the transmission when in first, like going up a hill, it starts to slip going into third is perfect, no problem there. do you guys know what is going on now? -AK.
  15. I was heading home from school and as I drove by I think I saw a 360 van parked out back of a local auto shop. it was missing the back bumper and I only got a quick at the rear and left side. I would have stopped but I was already late. my question is can you guys think of anything else that looks like a 360 van? if this isn't one than it is something really close, I mean really really close. -AK
  16. so wait, you are saying that 3rd and 4th suck with 185/80's? I asked everybody before and they said that 175/70 to 185/80 wasn't even a noticable difference. so is it or not? sorry to hijacjk
  17. All the ea81 autos are 3 speeds, at least 4wd. fwd manuals are 5 speeds, are fwd autos 4 speeds?
  18. hey, not to hijack, but how much would all this cost at your average junkyard? -AK
  19. cv's that don't suck, bought a reman from napa, week later it starts clunking!
  20. fuji, My Brat is my first car, and I have already some experiences like that. I hope I can keep it forever, but I know that probabaly won't happen.
  21. The grill is seperate from the light, and there is enough room to fit it (the light). it was not on all 82 models, it was an option, check up close to see if there is a light under there I put a third eye on my 84 brat also (check out the pics in the link in my signature), believe me, it is alot easier and ends up better looking if you cut a hole in the stock grill instead of trimming the 82 grill to fit. with the grill off, you have to do this: cut off the support in the center and replace it with the third eye, I used self tapping screws. wire it up to a doubble pole doubble throw switch (get one at radio shack) and hook the switch up in the dash, I find the "Fifth eye" impresses alot of people by it's sheer weirdness. have fun, this is pretty easey. 22. I had read on the message board here that the adaptor moves the engine foward an inch, and that may cause clearence problems in the front. I just wanted to know wether the distance would cause the same problem in my brat. "Adapter-- Much much easier than I thought. I went to the local aluminium supplier, told him what I was building and he hooked me up with some BEAUTIFUL aluminium. The spacer should be 10 to 11mm, and the aluminium 1/2" thick, about 12.7mm. The difference in thickness is about 2.0mm. I don't see any problems. The adapter is already cut out. Making template and cutting out adapter, about 5 hours." sounds like the total length would be 23.7 mm, little over an inch.
