  1. So i was taking a turn this morning when I hear a very audible "click, click, click". At the time I didnt think much of it because I had a lot on my mind. When I got home I popped open the hood and was doing a little minor carburetor work when a splatter of black grease caught my eye. Upon further inspection, I found that the drivers side CV boot had failed, and there was grease everywhere. I kinda expected this to happen soon because only a few days ago I was under the hood and I thought to myself "man, that boot sure has a nasty scar in it". and sure enough today it bursts. So my question is, is there a company that you all would recommend for me to buy my new CV from? Is there one brand that is better than another? This is my first CV failure so I just need a little help.
  2. what is it called and where can I buy that double sided tape stuff that holds the "Subaru GL" Lettering on the back of my car?? Sorry for the dumb question
  3. Thanks for the input. I dont have any experience with them so it is good to get a second opinion. Could you elebrate a little though? I.e. what products from Bosch have you bought and in what way did they fail? Haha its all good we all need to rant sometimes and i can understand why you woukd be frustrated after an experience like that
  4. Just cause my stock is getting old and im not sure how much longer it has before it poops out. When it does i want to be ready and know exacly what i want before i need it. I personally love rockauto. Im sure you have very good reasons for disliking them but so far i have no reason to dislike them as their service for me has been excellent.
  5. My original water pump is working fine right now, but I would like to know ahead of time what the best aftermarket pump is. Right now I am looking at this one http://www.cardone.com/Products/Product-Detail?productId=5573512&p=rock Or possibly this BOSCH pump http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=978237&cc=1268344&jnid=406&jpid=4 To those of you who have experience with aftermarket H2O pumps, is there anything I should be looking out for when and if i replace mine? Any brands that you would suggest?
  6. Ive been picking around our local junkyards and have found something im rather curious about. Whenever im picking parts from a car, it always intrigues me as to what the "cause of death" was. So far on two EA81s and one EA82 that I have scrounged around, when I open the hood, it looks like an explosion of oil happened when the car quit. Literally everything is covered in oil. What kind of failure could cause such a strange phenomenon?
  7. I too have heard that NGK is the stuff of legends
  8. The only things I tried to plug were the high speed air passage, low spd air passage, and the atmospheric bowl vent. All of them are now plugged in (All thanks to ihscout54's simplified diagrams) and hopefully I did it right. I plugged them all in last night and fired it up and it seemed to run just fine. Are you referring to the second picture? That hose plugs into my air box and I believe it is part of the PCV system. Yeah I have been fiddling with the idle mixture screw. trying to find a sweet spot
  9. This forum is a gold mine for those of us which wish to keep the original carb. Keep up the good work.
  10. I hooked up all the lines where I thought they went. But now my carburetor is running even worse. It's almost like it's running really really rich, it will run in a higher RPM for a for a few seconds, and then it'll start to die, and then the choke will engage and it will bring it back up to 2000 RPMs. Here are a few pics can you spot anything that's out of place?
  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Thanks for the extra input. Right now even though my car is not idling right I'm getting 29 mpg.
  12. Yes Please keep the info coming!! That spaghetti mess is exactly why I cant figure out which tubes go where. Your info thus far has been very helpful ihscout!
  13. Okay guys, here's the scoop: I got my carb put back together just the way it was before but with a new accelerator pump arm (old one was bent). Got it put back together, and deleted the emissions that TheLoyal and 2.7 Turbo recommended http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/148041-ea81-hitachi-carb-looking-for-pictures-of-read-to-find-out-p/ Unfortunately, the idle has been whacking out (it dies unless I help it when its cold) and the high idle and secondary still doesn't seem to work! Everything is the same as when it was working properly on the carburetor except the emissions deleting. So I'm wondering if the deleting I did may have actually been harmful?? Its an 84 carburetor so there are several differences compared previous carburetors. So any insight guys? Pictures of your compete hitachis would help me put the emissions tubes back on and see if that helps... but is there anything else im not thinking of? thanks guys.
  14. When my start went bunk, it would click but not turn over. Have you tried pounding on the starter with a wrench or hammer and then seeing if it will start? Has it been starting irregularly at all lately? eg. when you turn the key, did it ever go *wirr..click.* and then when you turned the key again it would fire up?
  15. I have heard that using delo extended life coolant helps. Also I replaced my stock electric fan with a ten blade flex-a-lite electric fan, which has helped my engine a lot!
  16. Holy cow! Some of these put monster truck push guards to shame!
  17. These have been some awesome pics and building threads guys! has anyone ever built one that looks like/or is similar to this: Keep the ideas and building specs coming guys!
  18. Sweet wagon man. I have the same year and everything it is just blue and not decked out with all the cool gadgets and upgrades you have. I love your ride though. I wish I could find another wagon so I could do all this to it.
  19. That looks like a really cost effective brush guard, Rust! Did you mount it with just bolts? Or did you weld it?
  20. Alright guys, for those of you who have built your own brush/bull/ or 'roo' guards, I would like to dig into your minds a little and find out how you built yours, how you attached them, measurements, required materials and tools, ect. (pics would be helpful!) Finding them has been incredibly hard for me personally. But I really want one and I have a friend with lots of skill in steel working who would build one for me if he had the measurements, etc.
  21. Try cleaning and retightening your terminals (specifically your positive)
  22. Sorry but I won't be able to make it probably not for a few years due to college and work
  23. Back to the OEM part discussion, I highly recommend NOT using pioneer cables for clutch cables. Mine snapped in about 3,000 miles.
