  1. I've been searching but unable to find pictures of port jobs before and after. It must be a well guarded secret. Any one got a pictoral? How to? Measurements? Its not hard just time consuming. Anyone wiling to share their mistakes????
  2. That exhaust header looks massive. What diameter is that??? Why spend time cutting and die grinding the manifold and welding it back together??? I'd rather buy schedule 10 aluminum pipe. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-metal-pipe-fittings/=uxejuv Would probably cost $100 and save a lot of time.
  3. Thanks Beech! Thats what i was expecting. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any thing unforeseen.
  4. Its true i do have an EA81. It looks like no less than 6 bolts that are guarded by the cross member.
  5. Is it possible to remove the oil pan without removing the motor? I think there may be some junk in my oil pan that I dont want to get into my pump. (long story) The row in the back looks tricky around the power steering rack. Does it get siliconed back on or is there a gasket. Thanks!!!
  6. I thought that the Flygas heads Were Outrageously priced but to get a crem-de-la-crem head from RAM is like going to 3rd Base and not going Home. $1500 for a head modified for performance. or $2000 for a head cast for performance. Hmmmm.....
  7. Here is a copy of my email from RAM info@ramengines.com Minimum Valve Job for a pair is $235. and that is if everything is good to use. Recommended head work: cost for this $700. pr. 1. Tank and blast 2. 5 angle valve job 3. install our bronze guides 4. install our larger SS valves 5. Our upgrade springs 6. Mill to flatten heads Port and Polish: Stage 1 $300 port match and bowl, Stage 2 $450 stage1 plus flow equalizing, Stage 3 $800. Full port and flow. http://www.ramengines.com/page15.php
  8. I just herd back from CCR. They do not offer por and polishing. Ram Performance offers stage 1, 2 & 3 port and polish with flow testing/ equalizing.
  9. I'm sure i could get the head rebuilt to stock specs in any town. I'm looking for who knows how to port the head to get more flow and not take too much.
  10. I have an. Ea81 turbo head I like to have ported, polished, flow tested and rebuilt. Where is the best place to send it? No I don't have time for an ej swap. Thanks!
  11. Is upgrading the injectors a longevity mod or a performance mod??? I cant figure out what makes the engine run lean from these threads. Performance mods? or Age? I feel like there is a lot of monkey see monkey do on this forum with out scientific justification. Who needs upgraded injectors? How are shorter injection times generated?
  12. Thanks Tombba. Why did you get boost creep? VF11 compressor on a VF7 Turbo??? What exactly was your setup? Hybrid turbos are popular among my VW TDI crowd. They provide great spool up. Which fits my application of Daily Driver and off road trails. I realize if I take to the track and wind it out; it will suffer and egt will rocket. I might have to mod the compressor housing but thats what a lathe is for. A 2.5" dp and divorced WG will help get gas through the choke point. (My current project.)
  13. If I fit a TD04-13T compressor wheel on the stock turbo.... Will i get boost creep?
  14. What are the advantages / dis advantages of running the VF11 or TD04. Faster spool? More top end flow? What about putting the TD04 compressor wheel on the stock IHI turbo? They are floating around fle bay for only $30. http://www.ebay.com/itm/261654977211?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT or http://www.ebay.com/itm/261656209582?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  15. Why is there a need to swap the pulley? What comes stock?
  16. I cant believe they used the stock Throttle body tube. It seams so restrictive. Also there are at least 2 vacuum line that come off the stock rubber boot going into the turbo. Idle air and something else. Are those still there??? NO BOV? Does the turbo surge?
  17. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IA9IYGU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2P6U20LCAI3WG ?
  18. I want to change my oil return hose. The rubber elbow under the turbo going into the head. 5/8 dia with a molded 90* bend. I'm afraid coolant line wouldn't handle the the high temp oil coming out of the turbo or the temp of the hose barb on the turbo. I had a new supply hose made to replace the stock steel line. The stock lines are prone to corrosion and will shorten the life of the turbo bearing. The local hydraulic shop fabbed mine up for $50. Made of flexable hydraulic hose. Has anyone replaced the return hose? With What?
  19. What is everyone using for the turbo oil return line? Source? Part #
  20. I was thinking a mustang hood scoop would be more appropriate for these boxy 80's bodies.
  21. I'm looking for info on intercoolers installed on EA81T's. I've spent a few hours searching and reading dead end threads and looking at missing pictures. EA82 get to use the spider intake manifold, EA81's can not. I have an 02 wrx TMIC already. The devil is in the details as they say. I'd like to learn from others mistakes on how exactly the plumbing comes together. Mandrel Bends and silicon elbows are expensive. What to hard pipe? What radius bend did you use? What silicone couplers did you use? Don't lecture me about Horse Power. This is not a HP mod. No I don't have time for an EJ swap. This is my daily driver. And I already put my eye out with a BB gun, so thats out of the way. Thanks in Advance!!!!
  22. So I made an attempt to refurbish my fuel tank level sensor tonight to no avail. I cleaned the resistor with deoxit, bent the contact arm, brushed it with scotchbrite and held the arm down while moving the float. It always reads in the 1,600 ohm range. Rockauto, Oriley, Napa, and autozone do not have a listing for such a part. The brat is a little special in that it uses a unique tank and a side mount sensor. Anyone know where to find a fuel tank sending unit? Any luck with universal parts? Thanks!!!
  23. I tried hydrogen. It corroded lots of sensors and caused some issues. I have yet to save any money. Filter it well. Forums will tell more of the story and allow you to figure out what didnt work. Many people end up using 3 bubblers and or a peat moss filter before the intake. Make sure the water cant bounce and splash into the intake as it could bend a rod. And make sure it cant siphon. Good luck. Share what works for you.
