  1. Was driving home today and the 85 gl hatchback decided to spew smoke. Two lanes wide. Within a half mile it cleared out. Got home did a quick preliminary check and nothing seems to be amiss. Should I be worried?
  2. Do you get the wiring harness AMD ecu to make the swap work in your platform?
  3. Is yours the one at McDonald trucking across the street from the can drop place. I almost put a not on the window the other day if its the same one. I have the silver hatch at precision on Bertlesen, Jonas This is mine
  4. Mine does the same thing when hot. I have not added a return spring yet. I'm not sure what causes it but it happens when its really hot and I'm on a long road trip. Spring should cure what ails your subie.
  5. I just up graded to a king spring in my 85 hatch and love them not sure if that would be a viable option for you. They do have a greater weight capacity than the oem equipment but I have a fairly heavy bumper.
  6. B&R auto wrecking and pick a part are the two larger ones here local. B&R is larger so they can ship parts from one place to another. But the older subarus are getting harder to find. Usually after a icy winter is the best time to look.
  7. I have a franken foz is what I'm calling it. A few owners back swapped in a Ea-82 5 speed dual range tranny and at one time it had the Xt-6 2.7 h6 clutch. I bought the car as a basket and am putting if together on the cheap. I've ordered a clutch disk. Is there any way to identify weather the pressure plate is in fact Xt-6 or just a Xt. Thanks. Jonas
  8. Not sure if the glass is different between the brat and hatch but I replaced mine Christmas this year.
  9. Yes I'm sure the alignment was affected. I need to set up a hosting site so I can post pics. Thanks for all your help and info.
  10. So I received my Monroe struts today all seemed good. I went to install the spring bucket on the strut and it wouldn't pass over the rod end of the strut. I wound up grinding a relief in the spring bucket to get it to seat on the two adjuster bolts. It went together mostly without a hitch. Now she sits on King springs up front. The ride is superb the front sits about 2" higher without the adjusters turned out. All in all looks like success. Thanks for the help
  11. I'm not sure I didn't ask seemed really short with the answers on the phone so I didn't press the issue.
  12. Sorry to say I got ahold of Bill and unfortunately he is no longer making lifts and since he doesn't have a computer/Internet access the prints aren't available as well. Jonas
  13. The clerk at Autozone claimed that their "hub" stock was depleted and nothing in the system. If I was to order them it could up to 6 months before I saw them not really in the timeframe that I can work in currently. I would much rather run the Sachs I feel they are a higher quality than the others. If you find a set I'd buy them to keep on hand for spares or I might order them for spares thru autozone. These obselete vehicles are a learning process to know what to stockpile.
  14. Autozone has them listed. I returned the E82 struts and ordered a set of the Gabriel ultras they should be in my hands Wednesday. I have one more source local to check tomorrow for kyb's or Sachs. I googled the part number and didn't come up with any site that seemed legitimate.
  15. Bratman thanks for the info. I talked to Autozone and they will take them back. I was a bit worried they were a special order from December. They however do not have the correct struts in their network. Where did you source yours from? Thanks
  16. Part # off the Sachs box are 031 168 009 and 032 169 009. They were ordered thru Auto zone last fall. I don't put much faith into the method they sell parts. I might see the import specialist on Tuesday and do something different.
  17. I lost brakes due to a ruptured line in the front of my 1985 E-81 hatch. I sourced the rubber lines and decided to replace the worn struts and springs while I was in there doing the lines. Problem #1 the diameter of the rod is larger than before so I machined the strut top to accept the larger diameter rod. This eliminated the broached flat in the strut top but I goes on. Problem #2 the length of the threaded portion to flat section is much longer on the new struts so it looks like I either need to get a stack of washers on top where the nut goes or machine a spacer to take up the added length. I've read many threads on the subject and the search function is less than stellar. Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated.
  18. I spoke with Bill a few months back and at the time he had no access to a computer to email and deal with making and selling blueprints. Hoping that the situation changes.
  19. If it's a tilt colum there are 4 10mm bolts that hold the assembly together. It's a pain in the rump roast to get off. I just did mine in my 85 hatch a few weeks back. I had a local locksmith rebuild the key portion and make a new key cost a few hours labor and less than $50 and works good as new.
  20. Did you ever find window seals. My rear windows in my hatch leak and the dealership says they are discontinued. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
