  1. Problem solved: It wasn't the burping thing.. The black part of the control cable came loose at the controls,, The Flap door was shut So no heat would get in. Re clipped the plastic covering to the control unit,, all is good.
  2. well I hope it works and I hope that was the ticket. Feels good to help instead of being the one asking for once
  3. check your crank sprocket. Make sure you are using the mark on the rear of the crank sprocket as your timing mark.
  4. I agree , If you got a new belt,, then yes line up the lines with lines on the cams and crank sprocket. If you don't use the lines its very easy to get a tooth off or so.
  5. Just throwing this out there.. if the banging were in time with the wheel rotation,, maybe something broke off banged, a few times then totally broke off,, now no more banging... like perhaps the gear teeth of the ABS? or something else along the lines of where the wheel mounts.
  6. Put the car on a good slope.. started,, and idled with no radiator cap.. squeezing upper hose.. ,,etc. Then I started to rev the car and I could see where I think the thermostat was opening,, as the fluid level would drop,,, so I squeeze some more and pour in more coolant. Then it go so hot that it wouldn't go down anymore when I revved it... I put the cap on it and quit. still don't have real heat blowing . but the air seems "not cold"
  7. my heater core didn't have / come with a bypass valve. The lower hose is cold.. I will do what you said to do However, in trying to get this thing "burped" I took the bleeder screw in and out and when tightening it , broke off the top of it.. so right now I cant open it anymore until I drill it out and get a new screw.
  8. frustrated. start stop,, put some in,, etc.. drove car to get temp up start stop,, put in some more... etc.. The top hose is pretty darn hot. The bottom hose is not. I left car running because I was alone. Then I cracked off the hoses from the heater core at the fire wall.. I got fluid both times. It was hot fluid. checked heater,, NO HEAT
  9. 96 Legacy wagon , 2.2, EAT History: heater core leaked,, I replaced it. In the process I broke the flap door in the heater box. I Glued it.. Wrong answer, it failed.. Had to do it over again.. got new flap door.. Installed it Put it all back together. Connected hoses to core pipes. Started car,, waited.. Still no heat Let warm up ALOT,, drove it into town.. NO heat. (It IS cold outside, 32 degrees) Top hose on radiator hotish. bottom hose,,not so much. bottom hose is not collapsing. Is this happening because of air in the heater core? and is like a bubble? Both hoses to heater core are hot. Im kinda worried,, kinda pissed. never got any heat from heater. Advice appreciated. Problem 2. Had the dash out so I got some cool blue LED's from Autozone in . One side working,, the other side not working.. It seemed pretty plug and play,, Im planning on taking out the gauge cluster tomorrow and doing SOMETHING.. advice on what to do would be great. ( The LED's worked before I installed them , they come with a battery and pushbutton demo thing).
  10. I agree Bratman. When I got the car he told me he didn't have an antenna adaptor so the radio didn't work,, he just listened to CD's. I pulled it and looked and he just didn't plug in the antenna which fit fine.. thus I got the radio working,,, but then I lose the presets because of the power issue.
  11. rockauto has a Gates kit , it includes idlers and belt, good price, I just did mine. you may need a new belt cover also,, so might want to grab that at the salvage car you mentioned. and I know it might seem im Piling on,, but you may want to consider replacing that Water pump while youre there... And hey may as well pull of the Oil pump and put new gaskets in it,, and check the screws.. (just suggestions)
  12. ok ill look for those wires... Is there any chance that there is a fuse somewhere that might be bad and "disable " this yellow wire.? Cause Im thinking he checked the wires for power,,,
  13. he cut /spliced all the wired into a plug for the after market radio. im an electrical moron. I had a buddy look at it when I h ad it out before but wasn't able to figure out the always on power to the radio,, so that the presets would stay.
  14. Ok I know the title sounds weird. something is missing power wise in my 96 legacy wagon 2.2. I turn off the key the cigarette lighter doesn't work.. All power that would keep my aftermarket cd/radio presets,, disappears,, I have to reset any stations,, I just quit doing it at this point. My head lights shut off with the key, I don't have to turn them off. My nephew had the car and put in the after market stereo so I thought maybe that was the reason for the presets not staying. But after thinking about the head lights and the cig lighter/power socket,, not working after the key is turned off,, I thought maybe it is something else.. I have gotten great advice here before on my Timing belt etc.. so thanks in advance!
  15. why don't you drop the pan and change the fluid and clean out the tranny pan.. ? I don't get it.. I did it to mine.. I think I followed the vid by Eric the car guy on you tube. I didn't flush,, I plan on changing the fluid again soon though.
  16. some of the lights work,,, the ones under each ventilation option... The ones that don't... I KNOW are the a/c button,, and the dial.. So is the dial lit? Im assuming the a/c button lights up judging by the blue glass window in front.
  17. So I got to looking at my heater controls... (96 Legacy wagon 2.2 ) There is a blue a/c button there. It never lights up. Is it supposed to light up? Is the Fan dial supposed to be illuminated too? (mine isn't). I bought some of those micro bulbs from radioshack on ebay. Your thoughts and guidance are appreciated.. I have the unit out of the car at the moment , due to having to fix the heater box again. I just didn't want to tear into it if those things don't even light up.
