  1. so considering the transmission seems to be working as it should does that mean i do not need to change the bit in the tail? i still have the old transmission but im not going to keep it around if i dont need to pull those parts.
  2. im not sure i havent tried. i can say after i drove it for a bit i felt like it spun the front tires a few times it was raining but when i was at a friends house he let me pull it into his yard on the wet grass in a hill and i floored it and the car did not spin on the lawn it just bit down and went. *edit* i just went out into the gravel driveway without fwd fuse front spins for a second then bites and goes with fwd fuse in the fwd light comes on and it tears the driveway up roasting the front tires only. i do think the awd is working.
  3. It came from a car with a build date of 01/2003 does this need to be done so it hard to do and can it be done with it in the car? I can say that I drove it and it seemed fine. There's no warning lights on.
  4. can anyone confirm if the transmission tz1a4zceba-3k is in fact a 4.44? i would really hate to put it together tomorrow with the 4.44 rear diff then blow it up from a wrong ratio issue.
  5. lol my friend has one like that the wheels even started pulling outward when we moved it in his driveway how about this one thogh
  6. i passed on the 100 dollar one that was outside. the one i was asking about was the one i just bought so i hope it works. it has only been off the car for a few weeks and was kept in a garage i bought it from a subaru tech and it came from a 2004 outback 2.5 according to the info its a 4.44 transmission and should work just like the original im hoping. has 146,000 on it. ill know wensday if i made the right choice when i put the new transmission in
  7. Ok just want to be sure I found a 2004 outback trans now for 150 the 2004 trans will work right? I dont k ow the ratio on this one thogh I'm guessing 4.44 I can look ot up later. I have both 4.11 and 4.44rear diffs The transmission I found is tz1a4zceba-3k I'm not sure the original but it will be going into a 2001 outback hope to hear from someone before this afternoon want to pick this up tonite
  8. heres the 2 pictures. the guy said its been there for a couple years and it was covered but not sure with what.
  9. is there any reason to fear a transmission that was stored outside with the axle stubs in and tail sealed? i found a 100 dollar 123,000 mile 4.11 legacy transmission.
  10. will the front hubs from a 2001 forester work on a 2001 outback? i know the forster was using the older 95-99 outback style suspention and i know the rears are different but what about the fronts? if i can use te parts i have i wont buy more.
  11. i have a 2001 outback it was a base model and has none of the plugs for stuff like heated seats heated mirrors rear/front tweeters. i know these plugs are located on the main body harness tail gate harness and both front door harnesses. my question here is if i were to swap these harnesses into my car from a doner 2002 outback limited would those options then work or is the dash wiring where it plugs in also different?
  12. ive been looking i jsut dont have cash for one currently. exploring my options. i was almost going to trade the 1998 impreza for a low mile trans but then realized it was a 2006 transmission and wouldent have worked. yes i would trade a running car for a transmission exp when said car was a free car. i do know i could get more by selling it and buying a transmission but it needs more work before i would sell it.
  13. im going to assume i cannot use the transmission from a 1998 impreza can i? i have one of those on hand in another car i got free.
  14. does anyone know what the bulb number is for the ashtray and shifter lights? i know there both the same they look like a 194 wedge bulb but much much smaller. there both burnt out in my 2001 outback.
  15. does anyone know if the transmission from a 2005 forester would work in my 2001 outback? i found a transmission for 100 bucks from a rollover with 71,000 on it. i dont really get that website.
  16. heres the results. i did change the diff the transmission does work and does not set any codes seems to drive ok with light throttle/normal driving but under heavy throttle/acceleration scenarios it has some really funky shifts. engine can pull the gears ok doesn't seem to be slipping or struggling too hard. seems like i can drive it though until i find another good transmission. in the end this did not cost anything but time the h6 transmission and diff was free
  17. well im getting ready to head back to the car to finish up. i guess ill just swap the diff and hope this transmission works out. wish i knew if i could drive it with the wrong diff and fwd fuse first to find out if it will work before doing the effort of changing the diff. but id rather not cause damage and i just dont know if it will with the fwd fuse in or not.
  18. well today i did the swap the transmission is bolted in there now. i forgot thefluid here at home so did not fill it yet. will it cause damage to the 4.11 transmission if i were to run it with the 4.44 diff with the fwd fuse installed? id like to try to drive it before i swap the diff over as well just to find out if it all works before spending that extra effort. would like to figure it out before morning. im planning to go up there again tomarrow to finish it.
  19. well do u think it would be as bad as a 2.2 running on a 3.90 final drive? my current setup is a 1998 outback with a1995 legacy L engine and trans using the outback tcu. im ok if its a lil slow im mainly concerned about driveability and hope it would be a little faster than my current car.
  20. I do know the 2001 h6 llbean car is not CDC I'm not sure the transmission number the 2 cars are at a friends house where I'll be doing the work.
  21. will the auto trans from a 2001 outback LL Bean h6 work in a 2001 outback base model with a 2.5? i know id likely have to change the diff too just wondering are they electrically the same and will work.
  22. i grabbed a junk yard hub today and of course the junk yard hub came off without much fuss. i wish it was the same case with the car im working on. i had to sawzall the bolt to get the hub off and ive been working on drilling out the big a** bolt from the bushings. killed all 4 of my batteries today so i quit for the night gonna finish it tomarrow after my batteries charge up.
  23. no ive been fixing up an impreza to sell and im down to the last repair a bad rear wheel bearing. it had drum brakes and i have rear hubs with disk brakes. i was hoping to find out if it was possible to push the hub out of the disk setup without damaging the bearing so i could swap the backing plates with the drum setup to the "new hub" then press the hub back into the bearing. otherwise ill probly just convert it to disk rear because i have the parts and dont really wanna spend money in this car if i dont have to.
