I know that everyone here supports BYB lifts, but I think they're pretty expensive.(for me at least) I've talked to a local off road company and they said they do a great job on subarus and there lifts are really strong. Also they said it would only be lke 250-300 bucks installed.

p.s. you dont need a lift to go offroading )
OOOOOO. trust me I know that. I go offroading on a weekly bassis with out anymods, besides the tires.
-
That was awesome. I had a feeling suby would float. One time a friend of mine went through a water crossing about the same depth as that but in a stock eveything GL. He made it through no problem, probably because he didn't float. (Big tires)

I bet that thing rallys gravel like nobodies business.

WORD! I can get a 3in lift from a local off road company for 250-300$. So I guess I'll start saving my pennies. In the meantime I'm gonna look for 15in rims at all the junkyards around my town. I will have an off road suby in no time.

I need some heavy duty shocks for my 1981GL. I was wondering if anyone know what size the front and rear shocks are?
-
I don't really have enough money for a lift and rims so I opted to get 2-3inches by buying some brand new shocks. Then when I get some new shocks i'm gonna see how much clearence my tires got then get some bigger ones. Don't get me wrong I'm still gonna get a lift for my suby just not for a little bit.
Anybody have any suggestions on where to get some off road shocks.
Also what size are the stock rear and front shocks for an 81 GL.

sweet. I think I'm gonna go down to the junkyard and look for some peugeot rims. I know a lot of good areas in bozeman to brawl the subies.
-
WORD. I looked at the pics of your suby and it looks like stock 13in rims. Is that true?
-
I live here in Bozeman. I'm out of school workin full time. I rally a 1981 GL. We should off road sometime.Hey all, I just wanted to see who all is in Montana. I'm in Missoula going to school in Bozeman. -
A junkyard is your only hope in most cases. You can look for a peugeot recycler or you can redrill your hubs to 6x140 to replace the 4x140. That way you can use almost any Toyota 6 lug rim.
You wont find anything near 28" for a 13" rim.

How would I go about redrilling my hubs?
-
You'll have a tougher time finding big tires for 13" rims then you will finding bigger rims
i want to get some nice rims, but the scorpions are so expensive. Any suggestions on where to find some good rims other than the junkyard.

Need to bump upto a 14 or 15 inch rim.
**** I was hoping to not have to find some rims.

I have an 81 GL with the 13in sport rims, and I'm planning on getting a lift. Do I have to get 14 or 15in rims to get 28in All terrains? Or will they work with normal rims.

My passing lamp wont work on my GL. it says its on all the time, but it isn't. I know the bulb isn't burnt because it turned on for a second one time.

The First pic is of My friends 88 GL going through one of the deepest and gnarliest water crossings in town.
The other pic is of my 88 DL rallying a gravel corner.
The last pic is one I found on the internet of a suby getting HUGE AIR.
I found this pic on the internet too.

I have an 81 subaru GL. I am gonna get a 3 in lift so what are the biggest tires I can fit. Because everybody knows the bigger the better.
-
I know that their are a couple nuts on the 81 GL that control the hieght of the rear and front end, but where are they. I need to get the tallest I can out of the suspension.
