I want the J10/J20 in the background. I wonder if it's for sale. AND on the way back home pick up my 4WD wagon! -
Hey, now why is my Subaru 4WD wagon a "passenger car" and not a SUV? Wasn't it one of the original SUV's along with the Suburban and Jeep?
-
just fyi. the new avatar shows the 79 4WD wagon. pictures at new website, below.

Anyone have that gen 1 ski team sticker set?
-
It was a rebadged Suzuki in foreign markets. But it was a Subaru body in the US with a Suzuki engine. I'm confused. Does this mean you can drop a Suzuki turbo into a Justy AWD?
-
According to Q&A in an ebay listing the Justy is a Swift underneath. Anyone know about this? what generations, all? Is everything Swift? I'm baffled. I'm thinking about getting a Justy for local commuting. thanks!

I emailed the seller for more pictures and information. So far I've received ZERO response, and it's been 2 or 3 days now. Scam? -

1979 4WD wagon --- timing, firing order, jets
cricket replied to cricket's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Fine. Does anyone have a Chiltons or something similar? Thx. -
I'd appreciate the following info: 1. firing order and numbers (where's my number one?); 2. timing, sea level (remind me to disconnect vaccum advance--do I plug the vaccum at the carb?) 3. recommended carb jet size, sea level Hard starts and backfires at turn off. My Roadmaster's going into the shop for a while, and in the meantime I have to get the Subaru ready for daily duty. That, or share the Big Pretentious S.U.V. with the wife. Thanks, Cricket. (still, free 78 2Wd wagon in AZ!!!)
-
Still have it in AZ. Eventually, I'd like to pick it up. Or if someone local (or not) is interested in it, it's still free. I'm still paying my $25 per month storage fee. The yard owner hasn't complained. Yet. Subie75 thought he might want my 79 4WD, and thought I'd let the 79 to go get the 78, but it didn't work out. And now he has the van on the block and it's left me drooling over here.

1978 2WD wagon and 1979 4Wd wagon, both since Spring 2005. (1979 4WD, 1979 to 1984, R.I.P.).

Key: a good mobile locksmith will make a key on the spot (unless you're in the boonies) for $100 or less. some don't even need a vin/keycode book. Lock: sledge hammer and screwdriver into the lock barrel always works. But if you've made the key.... You might want to consider a tow dolly, less than 50 bucks a day, and hope the steering isn't locked. Or winch it onto flatbed trailer.
-
I flat towed mine with the 4wd lever in the "not engaged" position, which I guess would be the 2wd position (sorry, my lever is missing the label; but I believe 4wd is down, and 2wd is up). Mine's a 79, so there might be a difference. Check your local public library for old repair manuals. Orrrr, maybe moosens or subaru3 can correct me.

the rear door has to go. unless you're looking for a saturnesque/rx8esque discreet rear door. for loading your golf bag, or paint ball stuff, or whatever. -

Install a rocket and you have a Jackie Chan special! -
Wow! That's what I call "project." Happy New Year, by the way.

My 79 4WD wagon made it fine to work yesterday. But the 4 speed limit got me thinking, I need a 5th gear for cruising, and can I install a 5 speed instead? and what 5 speed would fit this 79 wagon? I believe the 78 woodie (now owned by Mike in Denton TX) had a 5 speed. Any thoughts appreciated about availability, cost, installation problems/tips, etc. Thanks, Ennio in Spring TX.

driving your 1600 more now due to gas prices?
cricket replied to mcbrat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I test drove the 79 4WD wagon yesterday, it drives fine now. Tuesday is its maiden run to my work 30 miles away. I intend to do it under cover of darkness of course! -
I'm considering un-installing all the emissions stuff from my 1979. I was looking at vacuum diagrams of the older Subarus, and it seems they got away with only a vaccum line to the vaccum advance. Nothing else, no canister, no egr, no any of that crap. Has anyone de-emissioned a late 1970s engine? I need suggestions, comments, etc. The 1979 wagon is exempt from emissions over here, so no problem there. I also want to install a simple air cleaner, get rid of the housing and all its attachment; and go to manual choke. I want to K.I.S.S. with this wagon. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Ennio
