so i recently bought a NOS 1400 short block and a nos 1600 short block. i tryed the 1400 head gasket on the 1600 and its a no go. for the following reasons head studs on 1400(dual port wet sleeve) are a layed out diffently then on the 1600 also the bore is alot smaller on the 1400 so you would have to use the 1600 gasket(duh) problem is the water jacket on the head would be very close to the cylinder bore on the engine. problems and fixes water jacket miss alingment i believe the water jackets could be ported to work although they would still be very close to the bore and might not last long before blowing head gaskets head studs not the same. i belive the head stud holes in the heads could be elongated to work, you would also need to swap the head studs from the fourteen hundered to the 1600 since they are differnt lengthes things that havent been covered, cam differnces compresion ratio change intake fitment push rod length differnces (if someone can measure the 1600 ones i can do the 1400. anyway will try to add pix when i get a chance

1978 4x4 wagon build thread
tailgatewagon replied to noblesablepuma's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
sounds like a fun build i think if i i was looking to build what your going to build i would ej22 it (yes they fit with a little work. with a 4eat trany should work nicely for mild offroading and with the grey wire mod it would be awsome....... you could even distributer and carb the ej22 if you wanted........ -
hi guys i guess this is probably more of a classified add type thing but im not realy looking to buy as anyone with one would be silly to sell it anyway im removing the wet sleaves from my 1400 and need the puller to do it. the local dealer chucked all there old tools a few years ago and the cheapest one i have found is over 800 bucks anyway i may have to make something if i cant find one. and yes im in the process of a complete rebuild on one of my ea63's :-\ not shure what im thinking.

i had a door once that was this way took it ot a body shop and they said the door was bent or the body and that there wasnt enough adjustment in the mechansim to take care of it so the guy had a slide hamer that fit the door side and the body side and he would tap it with the slide hamer till the body was adjusted till the door closed. def took some practice but it worked.... -
