  1. ok. ive got an ea81 dr 4speed with the starter on top of the trany... anyway where can i find a clutch better then oem. this is my offroader and a ceramic or something that wont burn up if i try and slip it would be grate. thanks..... brian
  2. tim the mile marker are good. the volentier fire dep here uses them on all the trucks. they make two kinda an electric and a hydrolic one that runs off the power stearing pump. i would go with the mile marker. like an 8000lb one there probably not as good as a warn winch but hay ther half the price.... oh and stay away from the ramsy winches the 4x4 shop here wont even sell them to people they say there always having problems with them...
  3. ok so i have a wagon 1979, it has the 1981 brat crossmember and ea81-dr4speed combo in it from the same brat. Q is has anyone tryed adding power stearing to the 81 brat crossmember? this pupy is going to get lifted so i may just swap crosmembers with an 84 wagon one that has power stearing and is a bit wider in stance. thanks brian
  4. i just got back from the pile . i think i can acomidate everyone so fare. but thats about it i think for now for pistons...... ill post more if they are become avalible....' as for mossens single port 1400. well i found one today so ill get it for you. found myself a dual port 1400. for my wagon to. so that was good.... as for intakes i can get anything from 2.5 ej25s to ea71s, they are all there but not many of ejs anyway ill be working for the next couple of weeks on this so ill let you know in order of when you posted as to when your pistons are ready to ship. as for price. dont worry........(still to be worked out but probably around 10 bucs a set.....
  5. its a pile of engins, i can acomidate everyone so far.... except for rings i will leave them on the pistons when i pull them..... here is what you will get.. a matched set of pistons with rings(matched as they came out of one motor not a mix and match deal. anyway if there is any funny wear or not on the cylider walls i will not pull the pistons. anyway as for price. i ll let you know for shure tomorrow as im going to pull the first batch then... thanks brian will update tomorrow.....
  6. ok i found a place that has a pile of ea81-ea71's i am going to get some pistons for my build up... if you want some ea71 pistons let me know. they will be cheep. relly relly cheep. thing is the lot is going to get melted down so i only have a cuple of week to get them so if you want them please reply to the post. ill make a list of the people that want them later. brian
  7. you will love the welded diff... i just welded mine on my 79 wagon. and went wheeling with my boss. (85 toy with 36 tsl/sx's and locker in the front. well i could keep with him all except the big woppty dos that he was getting high centered. anyway sweet shot us some pix.
  8. i thought it might be usefull to get the axel lenghts front and rear and also the front control arm lenghts.. ill get the gen 1 stuff as thats all i have right now........ we need gen 2 and gen 3 (loyal) stuff also maybe tierod ends (inner and outer) the reason is so it will be easyer to mix and match.
  9. i would say you got a great deal. brats are cool but the gen 1 is a little cramped... its also the only ea81 dr that will bolt strait up to a gen one wagon. (trany wise) i have a 79 wagon with 81brat motor and trany in it. it dos 80mph on the free way fine and is alot of fun off road....
  10. how long is an ea81 rear axel. lets say from an 80-84 wagon it would be awsome to find the compressed length and the working length.. thanks...... brian also what is the same for an gen one axel... rears
  11. if you come through bozeman mt ill be here and will be willing to lend a hand if you need some help...
  12. well it took me and a buddy about 48 hours to lift his 84 wagon 8in. it drives now but we still have to do the tcase install and front diff mount. now this is our first time. but i would figure to do everything nicely and do a good job i would say 60 hours or so.(thats work time with one person) so if your time is worth anything it would be cheeper for most to take it to Mudrat and have him do it.....
  13. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=4185&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 there is the pic of it some of you may notice its the same wagon i had a couple of years ago. anyway its a 1979 wagon with an ea81 motor and trany , wiring and dash ect. out of an an81 brat so it has a dr 4speed with the 4wd shiffter infront of the 4speed shiffter also it has the wiring dual headlights like a gl brat but it only has one headlight anyway... heres the problem When i sold it it ran fine except for porr cold chok, now it dosnt run.. its getting fuel but no spark.... coil is ok (that is if you can use a 88turbo coil in an 81 brat setup...) but anyway i think the coil is ok.. timing is on. new cap and rotor and plugs. the one thing i found was there is a small metal bock that is on a braket that fits around the coil. its about 2in sqare and maybe 1 in thick. it says somthing ab out being an ignition somthing. anyway after cranking it for a while it was warm and every time i messed with it i could hear the electric chock cylinoid hitting. there are 4 wires coming out of the box 2 go to the two polls of the coil. while the other two go out about 2 feet to a t connector that inst hooked to anything and wasnt when it was running in fact it looks to have never been hooked up ever? anyway anyone have any ideas??????? thanks
  14. i belive late 71 was the last year... i have seen a 1972 DL split tailgate wagon... and i have a 73 splittailgate wagon i dont think they sold them at the same time here in the usa.......i may be wrong though...
  15. sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hay i woder if you could get copys made whoever makes the board stickers should be able to make them that way if you use or sell them all there will be exact replacement for them already at hand.... let me know if you would sell me a set of them that say subaru 4wd. thanks brian pm me oh yea get pix of the mint wagon up
  16. pm corky he will know for shure somone throw out his board name please i think its DR. RX
  17. what ive seen is if your driving in good weather then you have the snorkel pointing into the wind. and if your not or its relly relly bad then you run it back words make the top 90^ so it can swing 180^ that way you can make it point backwards or frontwords. i dont think you will ever have a problem if you leave it forwards but make the top moveable just in case. also a sink trap or somehing that acomplishes the same thing is a must IMH
  18. this is a relly neat post. the first car run by subaru in the usa was in class A in the 1974 (??) rally they used the 2dr coupes,,,, here is what a add run by subaru said after the rally a Gruelling, punishing course: more thean 2000 miles of twists, turns, bumps, rocks, mud, muck, sand, and fallen trees. thats the total "press on regardless" rally. it takes its toll of cars and drivers alike. out of 87 starters, only 21 finished but for the front wheel drive subaru it was a smashing success. two GL coupes blasted through the deep northern michigan forest and uppper peninsula wilderness to capture both first and second place in the class A competition. it gos on a little more. anyway the licencs number was RBP 195 not shure what state, i did some searching on the internet a long time ago and the car is still around. its even in washington or was when i was looking for info....
  19. well i found my doner vehicle. picked it up for 150 bucks its a nissan 720 pickup. so here is my setup... motor ea81 trany dr 4speed (81brat) nissan tcase front diff nissan R180 rear axel from same nissan wheels will be a 15X7 with some kind of superswamper 32in or 33in. narrow ones i will at some later time put a dr5speed and an ej in it but i want to get it up and wheeling first to see if i want to put all that in....... as for fab work. not a problem i just changed jobs , i used to work for this compay and we built all these drill rigs from scratch........... http://www.exceldrilling.com in fact im in the videos do some drilling..... will post pix as i work.....
  20. oh ok thanks that will make the process of finding a doner vehicle easyer. thanks... brian
  21. qman. the rear axel in your brat is a ??(nissan with spacers to move the wheels out? ) just trying to get it strait. yea i dont want it to look like a tar(half truck half car) any more then it has to so i for shure dont want the tire sticking out more then half its width anyway im going to do some looking and will post when i have a plane more nailed down qman, do you know of any other gear ratios that are avalible for the r160 diff? other then subaru stock gear ratios of 4.1 and 4.44?
  22. well ill be going solid rear for shure.. as for the front i like the way the independant feals when driving fast offroad. i cant belive how slow people have to drive with solid axels. but im not shure i want to go with the subaru setup up front..... qman i think your brat has the best of both worlds. here is my problem. i can only get 4.44 gears up front for a subaru diff. i want to go lower. so that i can relly crawl. my buddy with an 85 yota with 5.?? gears and 33s is just barrly making it on some climbs around here and i want to be at least that good. i also want better stearing gear box tierod ends ect. also larg brakes. all of which will take some more extensive mods. so i think i have 2 choices now if im staying independant front then nissan rear axel nissan tcase qman type setup on front......(w gen 2 crossmember and stuff) or or solid ill run toyota axels and the apropriate tcase(with right outputs) ill have to do more looking to find wich one will work the best. thanks for all the input its much apresheated( even if i cant spell. sorry i didnt learn to read or right till 6th grade and it dost look like ive learned that much since then....
  23. so the pto would be spinning all the time. it would work if you had a clutch like on the ac that could be turned on and off so that your air compressor isnt running all the time since the the front drive shafts are spinning in 2wd adn 4wd.
