  1. ok so after much debate (with my self mostly) i think im going to lift my ea81 powered 79 wagon. my first plan was a normal lift using gen 2 rear running gear and what not. but now that ive been thinking more im going to just solid axel it. so what kind of axels would you recomend, here are my choices toyota 1985 solids. suzki sami axels or shortend dana 44s (not rely an option since there to expensive as for power it will be ea81, dr 4speed out of 81 brat. tcase from 720 pu, im going to go for 31+ tires and will be using leaf springs...
  2. well there are three seals in the oil pump first off. the micky, they oring, and a little seal like a mini front crank seal just behind the gear that turns the oil pump. as for the crank seal the gears should just pull off by hand or with a little help from a screwdriver. you may have to rent a puller from checker or autozone or somthink like that if you are in a rusty zone and they have rust on them(unlikely if your seal was leaking. also on the oil pump make shure you torqe it to speck as i remeber it was like 13lbs or something for the little 10mm bolts that hold it on. you dont want to strip them out..... you can use a screwdriver to pry out the seal on the crank and then use a big socket to put it back or some very carful tapping with a smaller socket in a circular pattern..... anyway hope that helps some... later brian
  3. could be a worn ditzy. check the other things first then check the diztzy what size motor is in your car 1400 right, if you cant find a ditzy for it or the parts i maybe able to help as i have a 73 wagon with a ditzy in it. is yours the 1400 with dual exhost ports? or the single coming out the bottom, (Sorry getting off topic i was just wondering.) you may try swaping in another coil also, ive seen some wieard things with them when they get old..... anyway good luck.... let us know how it gos. oh yea what other old suby did you pick up i remeber seeing some pix but dont remember details....
  4. thought i had made it kinda clear anyway here gos again. i have an ea81 in a 79 wagon with a 81brat trany so i have an 79wagon dr 4speed ea81. now im going to be using this car as a project and will be lifting it some. and going with bigger tires. i want NOS for a little bit of impovment on hill climbs and the like when the ea81 boggs. i will be running 27-29 in tires my buddy with an 84wagon with stock tires was allways bogging on the hills we would try and climb in 1st gear. and so i dont want that problem with mine...
  5. i was thinking a wet kit on my ea81 in my 79 wagon. im going to be going with a little bigger tires. but i know that an ea81 can wimp out on power on steep hills so i was thinking a little shot of nos would be nice. im interested to here how subarubrats set up is working. as to 35hp is not alot........ hum our motors put out 80 hp at best maybe 100 with mods and 30 hp would make that alot of improvement.....
  6. nitrous... i was thinking that our little subarus NA might be able to handle some.... i was thinking somthing along the lines of a 35hp shot of course a wet set up.. anyway what do you think........
  7. ok so the intirior must have been non rx but the one discribed before. thanks for the discription. it was awsome...
  8. sorry ill clear up the title. as for the car it had the fully ajustible seats i didnt take pix of the out side of the car(doh) it said gl-10 on the back trunk, was non tubo ea82 MPFI the part that says muli point fuel injection was made of plastic, ill try and get to the parts manuals tomorrow or the next day and take a pix of the page that shows the maf part number and app it was 2wd and auto with digi dash... didnt see anything else funny or differnt sept it had the little rubber gravil guards infront of the rear wheels like a rx sedan and gl-10 sedans of later years....
  9. ok so im in a pick apart in so call. on 9th street in san berdino(whatever) anyway saw a sedan.. looked this is what i found 1985 (built 2/85) 2wd auto. digi dash rx(checker intior) MPFI, with plastic elbo onto the top of the intake. and funny looking MAF checked with a subaru guy back home in Montana and part number for MAF is year specific and dos not cross to any other years........ anyway pix just loaded up on photo gallery under tailgatewagon ... enjoy. please let me know what you think..... if anyone knows how post pix on the post for me i dont know how....
  10. ok so i saw a legacy turing wagon must have been a 93 or 94. (first gen legacy but had the updated headlights like on the 94.) anyway it was a blue turing wagon. just wondering how rare these are. first one ive seen. did any of them come in the turbo fourm...... thanks
  11. hum i guess i must have my info wrong...... i thought only the legacy got the detuned sti motor and that the forester was a differnt beast yes stil ej25 but no t the same varient as the sti .........l anyway ill stop miss leading now
  12. depends if your going to keep the car past warrenty? if so then i would go with the outback 6 or the outback turbo 4 there is a differnce in the motors from the xt to the outback in turbo fourm. the outback has a detuned STI motor in it so you get all the nice things from the engin work done on the sti, on the other had the xt has a base 2.5 that has been turboed. in my huble oppion it like the old ea82 cars(loyal, gl) ok motor, then they turboed it and it sucked.,....... while the turbo in the legacy outback is more like the ej22t(early legacy turbo) it started out as a great motor and when the turboed it it held up....... anyway bottom line is if your going to have this car for a very long time then go with the best motor you can find. inho its the legacy turbo or the H6......
  13. well it will be sitting for a while thats for shure i hope to get it inside here in the next few mounths, its in a place where we dont have to worry about rust, as for the intereir its not to bad, the motor is a 1400. bodys not bad either. ill let you know before i do anything with it ho knows it may just wait for you.. ' as the one that went to impound it was a 72 with lots of rust and such, it got smashed for scrap.... still pissed i didnt get it... oh well to rusty i would have just like to have had the motor and trans.
  14. Whatcha gonna do with it? not shure it has a nice dash(the wood trim part) and a great hood mine needs both but it dosnt seam right to just take it apart. the back gate and hatch are messed up but do work......if somone could only find those.... the motor did start but is making quite a noise so it might need a short block.....i think i may use it as a parts car for mine but that dosnt seam right either.... its at the ranch right now so its safe........... picked it up for 50 bucks from the guy he was going to cut it into a brat but didnt because he couldnt get the front wheel unstuck(frozen up drum brake) paul any chance that your 2dr would need some parts from this? if so let me know.... brian
  15. check it out................ http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?ppuser=679&cat=500 look through my album........ hint...... Yellowish
  16. if your in the bluemountians then i asume your either in eastern washingtion or your back east somewhere. either way your not in ozzy land and that make pk davis your dealer for the byb lift ive purchased one from him a grate guy. check the memebers hes under ozified or somthinking like that.
  17. i would like to buy some wheels off ebay but the guy will only do local pickup. if there is somone close i would love to pay them to pack up and ship the wheels to me, money upfront of course or if someone is close and would like a 1600 dual intake i would trade them for there trouble+$ anyway let me know the auction ends in a little under 2 days. oh yea this is for a subaru project....
  18. ah makes alot more sence now.... sorry about that...... sweet job you have at school. wish i was there.
  19. the 87 1/2 turbo xt had a differnt groundefects on it (mostly front bumper) and also was the only turbo with the spider intake that i know of it also had air suspension and was only made for a half year till the xt-6 came out or somthing like that. the only thing i cant figure is why they didnt stick the spider intake on the RXs in 88 and 89, ....
  20. man if you have a peace of history (quattro san) in your possesion why whould you put a differnt motor in it even if it is a long ? short? block. i mean just seams strange to mess with it......is corky in on this deal with you. he was the one that found this car origanaly from the proff right?? anyway cool make shure to get pix of the roller cam and such.......
  21. so how many of these are here on the board...... ive found one but it dosnt have a title it has a bad dent in the rear, and a blown head gasket.. besides that its not to bad......... just wondering who has them and what they think of them...... oh yea if you have one did it come with an lsd? or open diff. somthing ive always wondered about the 87 1/2 , oh yea post pix of yours also...
  22. i had one stuck once. broke a brand new S-K braker bar on it. then i tryed the snap-on guys best 1/2 drive impact gun it just sat there and rattled. finaly i cut if off with a die grinder. , you might go to a big tire shop that changes semi tires (the rattyest looking one is probably best. dont go up front just walk in and ask the mechanic if he will brake it lose with there 3/4 drive gun. if the have a socket to do it. anyway good luck let us know how it turns out.
  23. i think ccr's prices arnt that bad...........nice in fact because you know your motor will at least make it past a few timing belt changes.... my wifes friend just paid 600 bucks for a timing belt job on a legacy. just new seals and t belt..... thats about 290 more then she should have paid here in bozeman. i usualy do them for people for about 250 all parts included......... i cant belive the prices they charge..............
  24. sweet. id love an ea81t car. but since parts are hard to find and i already have one car like that (73 wagon) i dont want another. so it will be ea82 for me. as for lift im not shure if im going to make mine or just order one up from pk, ive made one lift is all and were still working on the stearing. (ea81 wagon with 8in of lift) anyway thanks for the responsis again.
  25. which dr 5speed has the best low range? i know that the rx is like 1:1.15 or somthing like that and that most of the dr 5speeds in gls were 1:1.5 somthing, but i thought i remebered Qmans hatch having a DR out of an 86 wagon an that that year they had. 1.6 something.? anyway anyone have a better memory then i? thanks
