  1. i just watched a budy do one and with labor at 75an hour it came to close to 1200 bucks for everything, remember water pump, oilpump, there all h6 specific, anyway this one had 130k on it and the chain was replaced could have gone longer but these things have lots and lots of orings on the rear timing case and then to be leaky i think we have the new ea82 as far as leaks go...
  2. ok so i have to drive 100 miles one way to work this summer. and my impreza on 28 ssr's wont due.. so i found a 1981 2wd ea81 5speed car it has 130k on it and is in decent shape. im wondering what the best mileage ea81 car is. also what are people getting with the spfi conversion on the ea81. anyway ill let you know what it cost to drive an ea81 16,000 milesin 3 months... for those who care its a brown Gl sedan, no ac, no ps, only a bit of rust in the bottom of the front doors and not much anywhere else if you have a 1980 broshure its the one on the opening spread...
  3. i agree some what with the 50 shot being a bad idea.. it will be the last option.... as for the f/t box, i want to be able to buy tires in 2's not 4's i would rather have the 2wd,4wd,4wdlow box vs the ft dr5speed, as for idlers just buy new ones... there cheep. like 26 bucks each if you have connections.(if you need some hit me up) but yea like qman said use the newist ones... any input on the water injection?? after reading about it i think it may be the ticket even if i dont need premium.....
  4. skip, i would use ej22 idlers as the blocks are the same as for the placement of the idlers. also use the ej22 tenshioner you can unbolt the peace that the tenshioner bolts to and replace the junk 2.5 one with the ej22 one. the ej25 ones are junk as im shure you know... not shure about the intake but ill ask a local shop that dos 2-5 ej22 swaps into ej25 cars every week.. as for the closed deck thing, or headgasket isures im not worried i will be using a phase 2 ej25 and they have external leaks not internal ones like the phase 1 motors did even if i have to do headgaskets every 50k thats fine also if the compresion is high enough to require the use of 90+ octane then im just going to go with water/meth injection......
  5. ive looked on NASIOC some and on here but no one seems to be able to say what the final compresion ratio will be.... i would agree that if its hi comp with a large shot of nos then its a bad idea.....
  6. ok so my imp with the swampers on it feals a little weak, dont get me wrong it will still drive 80mph and with the pp6 i have coming it should be better but i need more even if i do the dr 5speed swap. so these are my plans, anyone ever done anything like it. 2.5 block... 2.2 dual port heads. obx header. delta cams and a 50shot of nos. anyway any input would help.. thanks
  7. as for the 360 you speak of its called a custom.... kinda rare...even in japan
  8. so have you driven this thing offroad yet... looks good... please keep us up todate on it...
  9. zap ill get you some pix of the bumper in the next day or so.... the doors are bolted. they only take about 10 min to pull and fit snugly in the back. but ill be doing 4 half doors as im loseing about 50lbs per front door by going to half doors..... i would like a little bit of lift 2in or so. i dont want any bigger tires as these are big enough to do what i do.....
  10. well finaly got some tires... 27x9.5 15s, on brand new forester wheels. 1/4 spacers on rear just a bit of triming and rolled the rear fenders.... anyway ive made half doors(one so far 3 more to go) lots of fun.... 11. nice pix... ive liked reading and seeing pix of the green hatch and bob the brat the most.......
  12. i thought it would be cool to bring all the imps together for some fact tradeing and idea swaping along with fab junk and other imp only stuff.... there are so many threads that i thought we might consolidated some by makeing one thread just about imps.....anyway.... first off here is my car.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12355&cat=500&ppuser=679 its a 98 obs 5 speed with 99 OB stuts and springs(imp stut tops) in the rear and 97 ob struts springs and tops in the front....... things im working on camber adjustment in the rear and ob legacy rear disk brakes.... also LSD for the rear... i have a 3.9 vlsd but would like a 3.7 lsd to do the swap with... one note all 2000 and newer ouback limiteds and CW(cold weather package equiped) outbacks have LSD also all oback sedans... now autos are 4.44 and manuals are 4.11. i would assume all turbos are lsd also but havnt checked the books yet.... anyway there are a few of you out there what say you.
  13. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=12354&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent well here is what has happend in the last 48 hours... complete reseal of engine. new clutch 99outback struts rear(with springs) 97 outback struts front(with springs) rubber bands on 15in rims runs like a champ... 264k on the motor and car:rolleyes:
  14. anyone done it? i have a 3.9 vlsd from a 91 leg(yep with stub shafts) and a 4.11 in my obs. im going to atempt the swap just like the 3.7-3.9 swap... anyone ever gone 3.9-4.11?????? thanks for any info....
  15. there is a 75 4wd wagon here in the yard. its in awsome shape(a little rust but nothing one coulnt fix.... if only you east coasters would ever come west:horse:
  16. just wondering, everyone talkes about decking the head on ea cars to raise the compresions.... why not deck the motor and leave the head alone the reason being to keep the head material as thick as possilbe.. anyway just a thought...
  17. man if you were closer i have a set of brand new take off pipes from a hd sportser and a set from they would make awsome stacks as they are crome and about 4in in diameter... but i would say quit screwing up a good brat:lol: jk
  18. there is an auto 89 rx here in town forsale. its been for sale now for almost 3 years. no one wants a turbo subaru here in bozeman... anyway its a 4eat just like my 88 turbo wagon. with a 3.7 gear ratio...
  19. looks nice but i hope you never bump anything forwards or back words........ now its autox time...
  20. yep green 75 4x4 wagon with very little rust(100% cleen byeast coast stanards:rolleyes:) anyway its in awsome shape... but alas its in a wrecking yard and i have no time to save it, another guy that was with me may save it though and store it at my place...... guess what the 4wd shifter is about twice as long as the one in the 79 and is more in the center then on the side... anyway no pix but ill try and get some... also saw a 76 2dr sedan, 5 78,79's 2 80+ twagons(ea82) and a bunch of stuff inbetween......
  21. as to what you can haul behind your suby look this is what i pull with a crapy hatch my triler has almost 800lbs worth of stuff in it i think it comes in close to 1500lbs...... so short anserw is yes you can pull it. is it safe:-p probably not the best. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=10257&cat=500&ppuser=679
  22. youve got to be kidding me:mad::mad::mad::mad:
  23. from talking to the machinest today i think that ajustible cam pullys are going to be expensive also the are going to weigh more i think if you want to make ajustible cam pullys your better off sloting the holes that are already there and just tightning the bolts tight enough to keep them from moving or drilling a small hole in the cam and pully and puting a stud in t once you find the position you want..... as for ajustable cam pullys i think the price would be in the 300+ range. if done right...
