  1. its been said before but i guess it will get posted again all autos. 3.7 gear ratio. all non turbo manuals 3.9 gear ratio all turbo manual 3.7 gear ratio xt6 3.9 gear ratio(the only ea car that had the option for a 3.9LSD(not VLSD) i think that covers it........................................
  2. legacy turbos have alot of under hood heat. therefore most are in need of ALL the rubber hoses needing replacing. so look them over its probably never been done and if your going to be keeping the car for some time. you will/should replace ALL OF THEM.........also look and the engine cross memeber this will give you a good pixture of how much oil the motor has leaked. as you cant spray th crossmember above the motor but you can get your finger on it and tell...... good luck they are awsome cars....
  3. How much time do you have. if this is your first try it will take some time. nothing about this is hard. just time consuming first time out... pulling the motor is the easyest way and is in no way hard. my very first one was a 79 wagon i was 10years old and i pulled it in 45min with air tools had to have help putting it back in but it wasnt hard.... heres what you do... get a bunch of baggys and lable keep your bolts seperat by putting them in the baggys as you take them out. such as trany bolts. engin mount bolts. colling fan bolts. here is how i do it.. take 4 10mm bolts from the electric cooling fan. and the 4 10mm bolts from the clutch fan shroud. pull top rad hose. and lower rad hose. take cluch fan off by pulling 4 10mm nuts that hold it to the water pump.. now take radiator out. 2 12mm bolts. a few wires and your good.(taking out the rad is not a must but will give you more room to work and will help ) now crawl under the car and take the 4 nuts that hold the exhost on. 14mm take the exhost hanger bolt loos (the one on the trany) one bolt 14mm i think then take the 2 nuts that are in the crossmember now pull all electrical connection that go to the eninge. there should be 2 big ones by the batery. pull the fuel lines(put collored tape. or duck tape lables on them so they will be easy to pull(screw drivers needed) and reconnect in order. lossen both belts by using the adjusters 12 and 14mm will be needed. and take them off. if you have powerstearing there are three short bolts that hold it on you will have to put the 12 or 14mm socket through the pully to get to them... once removed take any other little brakes that hold the power stearing lines on off i think there are 2 10mm bolts that hold the hard line on. then flop the power stearing pump off to the side. if you have AC do the same with the ac pump. 12mm i think there are usualy 4 bolts that hold the pump on they will look like they go right through the pump from the battery side to the alternator side. now take the 2 14mm nuts off the bottom of the bellhousing. and the 2 bolts off the top. anyway ill finish this later. but relly this is the easy way.... if this seams overwheeming. maybe there is a board member you can pay to help you. would be cheeper the doing it at a shop and you would learn somthing... anyway if you want more insturcions or are going to atempt it ill finish this very genral righup..... later and good luck
  4. my svx is somthing like 3000+lbs im going to make it a highway cruiser. these are the wheels im going to use. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/wire-spoke-13-alloy.jpg they should look good on the turbo coupe. pluse ive got the only set around...
  5. nope looked just like it but was a normal wagon... if it was it would be in my sticky paws right now.
  6. first see if you can find a friend with access to a comerical account at carquest or the like...... then have them get a clutch kit for your car you will need make model year AT OR Manual trany, The stupid counter person will also want to know if it has Air Condioning but it dosnt matter and weather its a turbo or not... 2wd or 4wd, even if yoru going to have a shop do it try and go this rout for buying the parts becuase oyu can save yourself alot of money....
  7. sorry just had to make a wjm title. anyway what i relly saw... 2dr coupe production date 4/1975 4dr sedan 1976 with Factory AC 78 somthing sedan type 79 somthing sedan type. early 74 wagon almost mint interior.. 76 wagon rusty as hell but front grill and light bezels were awsome 10x mis 1978 1979 wagons didnt look at anyof them as they low on my list... and best off all (while not in a junk yard) at the sevice shope. 2nd owner 1976 4dr sedan with 37k on it was sold in bozeman and has lived here its whole life......... anyway keep your eyes open gen 1s are breading again........................

  13. http://www.jm3.net/rides/subaru-brat/ this is kind of a cool site found it looking for pix looks like one nice gen 1 brat.....
  14. AC Compressors work awsome. im working on a write up on them but sufice to say that done right they will last for along time and they will air up 4 36x12.5r15 tires in about 10 min. from 2lbs to 15lbs(the most we ever run in them)
  15. i have looked in my ea82 factory parts book, they are not for ea82 cars. and not shure about the ea81 thing as your part numbers must be aftermarket parts and mine are NOS NEW Subaru stuff in a subaru box.
  16. screw the extra tank and put a small tank for air under there for running air tools...
  17. ok so i have a wheel barring kit. the part number is 799923040 lable says "O/S BRG KIT anyway it has two bearings and two seals its kinda obivous its a wheel barring kit. but i cant find it in any parts manual.. the ones ive looked in..\ 70-72 FF1 72-75 77-79 81, 82 86-87, any ideas. please check your parts books. subaruparts.com dosnt list it as a currnet part number... oh yea i also looked in 69-70 360 parts book.
  18. ok guys just wondering who has done this and whats involved.... id like to set one up but have the following questions. whats drivablity like. my doner car is spfi what problems dos this have? this is going to be on a 93 loyal wagon with a 5speed. thanks i tryed search but coundnt find much...........
  19. Brake fluid causes brake pads to swell and make them very grabby i would bet you have a leak near the rear wheels(as in where they go into the backing plate(wheel cylinder) or that the rear wheel cylinders are leaking. and causing them to lock up. take the big nut off the center of the rear wheel. tape the end of the axle with a big punch (socket) just make sure you dont mess up the heads or hit it hard enough to mushroom the end. this will brake the cone washer loose then pull the brake drum off and see. (make shure the ebrake is off) the best deal is to get a disk conversion and put it on. it will be a little easyer then trying to serivace the rear brakes. but dont wory with a little bit of work you can get them going again...
  20. 1980 was a model year change. all the subarus went to the new body style with exception of the brat which stayed till 81, so if its a single range ea71 brat then the 79 book would work, or if its a 81 ea81 dual range the 81 book would work. also one could check for 1981 ea71 single range but everything should be the same as there was very little change between 79- 81 with the exceptioin of some of the AC stuff and the introduction to the ea 81 dual range...
  21. Hi guys just wondering if anyone is having problems with there trunks and keey on the gen 1 cars (perferably early ones thanks )
