92 Loyale Died While Driving

Driver side timing belt was my culprit. Took the cover off and grabbed it. All kinds of slack. -
92 Loyale Died While Driving
josiahm91 replied to josiahm91's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So I pulled the distributor and it appears to be completely functional. so it has to be timing. got the motor out this weekend and I'm going to tear into it on my next day off (Wednesday). Going to do head gaskets as well while it is out since I don't know when it was last done and the motor is leaking oil from so many different places I cant exactly tell if they are the a problem. Any other preventative maintance suggestions while I have the motor on a stand? -
92 Loyale Died While Driving
josiahm91 replied to josiahm91's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just put a new rotor on it. I confirmed that it is in place and secured by the screw the battery died from the cold so I can't crank it at the moment. This weekend I'm gonna get into it and get those dumb covers off. I will let ya'll know what I find beneath..... -
OK so this car has me a little stumped. It's a 1992 Loyale EA82 SPFI it was running just fine until one day I was leaving my neighborhood and it just up and quit on me. it stull cranks strong and I have confirmed positive fuel pressure. the problem I am having is with spark. I pulled plugs and got nothing. Found that I have spark from the coil to the distributor but nothing to the plugs. so in my mind its one of two things. 1 my distributor took a dump (I haven't heard of any problems with them but I could be wrong?) or 2 I lost timing somehow. Of course my belt covers are stuck on so I haven't been able to get a look at the timing belts yet. any ideas on getting the covers off?

Yes a 92 yes I belive it was pulsing sparks. I was testing off the wire from the coil to the distributor cap. I just put a new coil on it thinking that was the problem so I doubt its a bad coil.

Why would that be?

Ok guys I need some assistance. I was driving my car about a week ago and it just decided it didnt want to run anymore. Just up and quit. Now i'm getting spark from the coil to the distributor. But nothing to the plug. New cap and rotor. I'm thinking bad distributor. So what do ya'll think? Also is there any way to trouble shoot the distributor so I dont just have to throw parts at it?

92 Loyale timing belt covers
josiahm91 replied to josiahm91's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Alright you guys convinced me. I'm gonna bust them off tonight. Wish me luck. -
So I was driving my car today when it just up and quit on my. Im afraid I snapped a timing belt but I cant get the damn covers off to see. I can get a wrench on the bolts but cant seem to loosen them. I feel like an idiot. Is there some trick that I dont know to get these things off? Or am I just dumb?

$200 for an EA82....Worth it?

I was going to buy the car this motor came out of plus a running 3AT. But the wife said it was a no go -

I feel the same way about spares. I'd much rather have extras than not enough. I also do not like to be pressed for time. That leads to rushing and rushing leads to simple mistakes. I also have ample room in my garage to accomidate an extra engine/stand. I wouldnt dare leave it sitting outside through an Alaskan winter. -

Way to be a debbie downer. First off I'm no rookie. This may be my first Loyale but its not my first car and certinly not my first Subaru. I know the TOD is not a big deal its just more annoying than anything. The reason these motors do that is because they do leak oil and that causes air to get into the oil and lowered oil pressure. Thus they tick. The only reason this guy pulled the motor is because he bough this car as a donor for his 3AT car. Now hes moving to ME so hes selling off his extras. -

Fair price in your opinion? -
So here is my question. I have a 92 Loyale sedan (EA82 Pushbutton 4wd 147k) and I found a guy up here selling another EA82 motor out of a 93 Wagon(135k). My idea is to pick it up get it all resealed and drop it in my Loyale and keep my current motor as a backup. Mostly because its going be a lot easier (obviously) to work on a motor sitting on a stand vs trying to reseal my current one while installed in the car. My current motor runs just fine just leaks a good bit and has some TOD issues. Also he said he would throw in an additional Pushbutton trans for and extra $100. So what do ya'll think? Is it worth my time/money?

Push-button 4wd to High/Low 4wd Swap

Push-button 4wd to High/Low 4wd Swap

So I just looked up replacement clutch kits and I'm finding that there are two different counts on the splines and different diameters. One is a 24 and one is a 21 spline with 8- 7/8 and 7-7/8's respectively why the difference? Also my car is a 92 sedan. The donor is an 86 GL wagon. -

Push-button 4wd to High/Low 4wd Swap
josiahm91 replied to josiahm91's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The only thing I was remotely concerned about is the fact at when not in 4wd the push-button runs Rwd while the high/low runs Fwd. -
Ok guys so I'm super excited. Last night I looked at an running 86 GL wagon with the High/Low 4WD transmission and the girl only wants $500 for it! Has some issues but I'm really only in it for the transmission so I'm not really worried about it. So here's the question. I'm sure other people have swapped out the push-button 4wd for the high/low. anything i need to know before i get buried neck deep in this thing or is it as straightforward as I think it is?

I know for a fact my blower motor is bad (doesn't work on settings 1 & 2). It just doesn't really blow heat when it gets cold. like maybe 55/60 degree air is the best i get from it. I know the car leaks coolant but I have been keeping up with it. -

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement heater core? My blower unit is dying so I was gonna just do both but I am not having any luck finding one. -
