  1. I am just finishing my top end over haul on my EA-82. I had the heads decked, valves and valve seals redone, Delta Cam did a Level 1 grind as this is my everyday driver and is an automatic. they also resurfaced my followers---very inexpencively i might add. I had previously installed a 38/38 syncro Webber carb and have a 2in hight performance CAT back exhaust. so yes it can be done. my bottom end was balanced at the last overhaul before i over heated and warpped my R head--go figure the weak side for cooling. ill let you all know what i get on the dyno when im done. by yes no changes made Ray
  2. what is the advantage vs disadvantage to custom air filter and intake tube. Is the performance better? and which brands are better? Thanks
  3. i replaced all of my hydrolic lifters. they were like 4.00 a piece. how worn are your rockers? I had Delta Cam in Tacoma Wa reserface mine for 4.00 a peice too. cuz they get that worn spot in the center.
  4. What I did on my 86 GL was i bypasses the entire igition key assembly. i left it there as it locks the steering wheel. i ran the wires down to the small open "box" left of the steering wheel near the base of the dash. i got two of the largest toggle switches from NAMPA and the largest push button start switch and i permanently hot wired the ignition. one switch for the accessorys and one for the actual ignition. if they want to steel my car they have to figure it out as it cannot be seen unless you get right down there and look. and it still needs the key to unlock the steering. Subaru wanted 83.00 bucks for a new one and like you i didn't want two keys etc..... good luck its not a hard fix
  5. oh ok and thanks ill copy this post to the Off Road side and see what they say....
  6. was it near the tail pipe. it looks like catalytic converter core material to me. how is the power from the engine?
  7. my 84 GL with 3AT has hydrolic lifters. I got my car with 220,000mil on it and now has 250K. my transmission has been great. no issues cept the downshift modulator. Easy fix on that one.
  8. Some time ago i started a 4in lift kit from Anderson, but also wanted to Improve my shocks and struts. I followed Loyale 07's suggestions for struts and springs. however the front springs i got the new Subaru Struts for the front and the 94 Ford Tempo springs as suggested. however the oiriginal springs have 8 1/2 in tall and the Ford Springs are 15 inches tall. i see no way to compress them enough to get them the Subaru struts. I did compare them to the NAPA Ford Tempo springs and they are the same. Any suggestions of what to do next to make these work? Regarding the rear ones they will make my car 2 in higher than stock. will the 4in lift kit and this strut change (Honda Accura springs, and Toyota Forerunner Struts/shocks) make my GL like a 6in lift in the rear?

  11. wow that's interesting, they do not appear on the company's website, the AU ones are on E-bay. ill check this out.... at Jay Racing Thanks shipping time will be faster.
  12. I found them and will order them in the morning. Thanks soo much.... I'm surprised they don't offer them here in the states.... there are a lot of these old cars running around in the USA and Canada.....
  13. Follow-up, Quirk Parts is just a bunch of dealers, no help. They sent the wrong oil pump, and one rocker for a JA 2.5 wont use them again. I had the rockers resurfaced by Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, Wa. also had them do a stage 1 cam grind on my cams. they charged 3.00 to resurface my rockers.
  14. I am lifting my 86 GL and notice my rear bushings are really worn out. They should be replaced NOW. I want to use Polyurethane, but so far cannot find anything, yet there is an 82 at Subaru-Adventures.com that say he used Perrin rear bushings and AVO for the front. Does anyone know how to find them or other more recent kits that will interchange?
  15. ok everyone. I did find--with help of a good young mechanic guy--a web store that carries hard to find parts for many makes of cars. http://www.quirkparts.com/ i was able to get new Rockers. 8 for 34.00 aprox and the new oil pump for 70.00. so any other hard to find parts id give them a try. i just ordered my new parts the local stores said were obsolete and unable to get.... their loss is my gain....
  16. I got the lifters from Kilmer's Auto Parts in Milton Freewater Oregon.. They are ITM engine components.... still no love on the little rockers
  17. NAPA in Dayton, and Kilmer's (Car Quest) in Milton Freewater--they deal in a lot of older parts. when checking for the lifters the Subaru dealer wanted like almost 60.oo a peace but i got them for 16.00 each.
  18. i did the 4-6 lug 140 conversion with help of my friend who has a automotive machine shop it went well and i have a large choice of wheels to use. after i get my 4in lift ill go a little bigger but Id do the 6-lug conversion as its easier.
  19. Im new to this form. I have a 86 GL and a modified EA-82, Im the process of doing an overhead rebuild after bad haed gasket. With that said Some of my cam rockers are looking warn and one has some pitting. I want to replace them as i got new lifters also. My parts store in Dayton says they cannot get the new rockers as their suppliers state they are "oblolete". REALLY? same goes for the new oil pump i want to install as i have the engine out of the car. Any ideas where to get such parts?
