  1. Sweet! Good to know. If anyone is interested in specific parts let me know which ones and what you might pay for them. I'm located in Vancouver and will be driving down to Southern California in June for some kind of delivery.
  2. I'm thinking about purchasing a friends Loyale and combining the good from both his and mine to make one great car. Mine is in great shape intirior wise and has fairly low mileage, his has a great extirior, fresh winters, but bum wheel bearings and brakes. If I purchased the car I would likely try and part some of the stuff out to recoup some losses what kind of stuff are people commonly looking for and is it likely that I'll be able to get a few hundred bucks parting a few things out? If I get it I'll probably only have a month to play with it before I have to scrap it. What are good parts to save either way? Was going to keep the engine and transmission maybe some bits of trim what else would you guys recomend keeping?
  3. Ordered from Rock Auto ~100 CAD but I've got to wait a few days which is frustrating.
  4. Local parts store has them for 70 and 50 plus 40 and 45 for belts with an account. Too much money. Trying to order online
  5. Its the timing belt, at least Guess I should have just done them while the engine was out. Luckily 2 of 3 covers were zap strapped on so it should be easier to work with. Need to go pick up belts and get to it. Do I need to replace tensioners at the same time? Hoping to not spend tons of money.
  6. Something I just considered is I was on a slight downward slope which could account for the super high oil reading. Its now lower on than it was before but not by the entire amount. So there was too much oil but not as much as I originally thought.
  7. 12v at positive and ground of distributor. Next to check timing belts and fuel pump. Thankfully I put the covers back on with just zap straps instead of screws since half of them broke anyways. I drained lots of oil, left it open for a long while tipped it over on the engine stand and drained more from the other side then from each cam cover. Yes I did wipe the dipstick, I'm new but not that new!
  8. Filter I ordered from local parts store and I put in almost 4 quarts. Apparently the capacity is 4-5 so should have been fine but I'm sure there was oil left in there. Either way ended up quite high I don't think it was the issue just thought it was worth mentioning. @AdventureSubaru I know I know... Should have been patient looked up the specs and checked out what too much oil can do but I was excited and like to learn the hard way! Charging and doing some battery maintenance to see if thats my starting issue. Will check belts and fuel pump when thats done. A fuel issue wouldn't surprise me at all since that's the kind of cut out it had, no warning, no fussing, just died.
  9. I pulled one plug closest to the coolant leak to check if any coolant may have snuck in. Didn't look like it but the plug was dry.
  10. I have a 1993 Subaru Loyale EA82 5sp push button. Its got 190 000 km and a bunk starter so I've been parking downhill and roll starting it. Its my first car and I'm learning but currently I'm stumped. Today while driving coming over a bridge my car was running great and then while exiting started flashing the check oil and check engines lights and just to stopped working. I managed to pull it over tried to start and push start it a bunch and had no luck. I fear that I may have put too much oil in. It was far above the full line but I was told by a friend that it would just burn off, I think maybe he thought it was a little bit over. Now I'm reading about the damage it could cause and think I should have dealt with it earlier. Did I codswallop it up? Personally I think it may be something else since the car running fine for a while with the high oil level and didn't run rough or bad before immediately cutting out which leads me to think electrical? On the side of the road I drained a bunch of oil and got the level in between the marks but couldn't get it going pushing or starting normally. I had it towed home and am now need to figure out the problem. Anyone have any advice? Last thing I'm thinking may have had an influence is the coolant was leaking from the left hand radiator tube and spraying onto the engine. Maybe it got into some electrics? Is it possible for it to leak into a spark plug hole? Recently (in the last month) I've replaced: Clutch Radiator Spark Plugs Plug Wires Oil/ Filter Fuel Filter
  11. Still waiting on a hoist, waiting on a friend to head to his parents and let me know when but not sure when its going to happen... Anyone in Vancouver feel like lending me one?!
  12. These ones are too big to fit and I've got a fairly good AGM in it right now. I'll have to put more thought in, may just run the inverter on the main battery for a while as it has an automatic shut off at 10.5v. Will only be using it on long hauls anyways but would be cool to run the stereo ect for a bit longer with a backup.
  13. Ah so likely not a great idea maybe I should find something more similar to my battery. We get tons of different stuff in just figured this would be a good call based on the method they use to replace them. Now that I understand what I'm looking for I'll be able to find something closer. Charge controllers seem pretty expensive!
  14. Sounds like it won't do any damage so I'm going to go for it! It will be a second battery so its not going to leave me stranded. Was considering the maxima alternator upgrade people were talking about so maybe something newer would keep up! Found the spec sheet pretty easy http://www.unitedpb.com/documents/power/broadband%20gel.pdf Worth a shot.
  15. Hey is this a good choice as a second battery to attach an inverter to in my car? We get lots of them at my work and they should be in decent shape since I believe they get replaced based on a time period and not actual wear. Not super versed in what kind of battery I need but assuming 12v is 12v? This one seems to have a pretty good ah rating and is gel! I also have one of those fancy desulfating chargers so I should be able to push some life back into it.
  16. Pretty sure I cracked something similar off mine before figuring it out. Try sliding the trim that its attached to or near off instead of just pulling it off.
  17. My rear bumper is non existent and I don't really see how the hitch in the link would mount to the bumper anyways :S I am going to have to take a look at things next time I'm around the car will likely just bolt something into the bumper mounts judging from yours since it must be holding the weight OK. Don't actually need the hitch mount but I guess it could be convenient.
  18. Scooner how are you finding the bumper mounted one? People suggested that I might not want to start there as its drilled into thin sheet metal. I was hoping to completely eliminate the back bumper anyways. Dave T I probably wouldn't have a crazy amount of weight back there its most likely to be a couple skateboards most of the time but maybe more camping gear ect other times. I'd say 150 is likely the real max. Your hitch looks legit and I might give it a shot! Just have to analyze the rust levels in the back storage a bit more.
  19. I found this article about adding a hitch to older Subarus wondering if anyone has tried it and what kind of weight its likely to support. Was planning on using it to support a gear box with MAX 300 pounds likely 100-150 Think it will do? http://home.comcast.net/~davidtief/hitch.html
  20. Found a couple sets of these at work I could probably snag for very cheap. Anyone have any experience with them? http://www.denji.com/index.php/en/high-quality-fog-lamp/item/130-halogen-fog-spot-light Replace the busted up ones it came with!
  21. Also figured that out. Now I just need to get some wires and test it out!
  22. Pulled the plug off the circuit board just need to figure out which pins are which terminals on the circuit board. Seen an image like this?
  23. Think I found a DPDT at work today so that should work. 3 and 5 are connected to two pins because the switch has to choose between two things radio or aux, and because I have a switch for both left and right it needs to go two to one.
  24. That bed slide is epic! I will make my own slider out of 608 bearings and some bolts its pretty easy and won't be overloaded (mostly just skateboards and camping gear). The stop should be pretty easy I was going to put a QR bolt on when its snugged up against the back and just bold on some kind of bracket to stop it sliding forward maybe even a brace that goes all the way across and bolts onto both sides. Sounds like I have my answer on bumper mounts! No go. Thats going to make things a lot more difficult but I'll figure it out and come back with a new drawing. I don't really want a basket I will be storing pretty light but large items in it so I don't want them pooping out and I want the thing to lock up anyhow! Also don't really want to spend $100 on a basket. Thanks for the info
