  1. There wouldn't be a possibility the way I would do it as as you open the ash tray drawer it would flick them both on! I will take the advice and go look for a switch though will be less of a pita if its on one and need to go find a 7 pin DIN since I didn't see one at work yesterday.
  2. Also I would like to avoid a roofbox! Seems less aero and less functional. Once mounted I'd likely convert the lid into a table for sitting on the edge and a stand up work table. All with some DIY lift table magic http://lifehacker.com/5954888/hack-your-coffee-table-to-have-a-lift-up-top.
  3. Now that I think I have my radio MP3 project sorted I'm going to move onto another one I've been planning. Recently removed the rear bumper because basically it was non existent due to rust. Weird as the rest of the car is in pretty good shape. Was hoping to add one of those diamond plated tool boxes to the back of my Loyale. Was planning to attach it to the bumper mounts and put it on a small slider so I could still open the trunk, possibly even double it as a table for when I'm camping! What I'm wondering is how heavy duty do I need to make this thing to load it up to 300 pounds (to be safe) and will mounting it at the bumper mounts be strong enough? I'm getting the box at the scrap yard I work at really cheap as well as the metal to build it. My welding skills are non existent so was just going to bolt together a bunch of aluminum corner bar. If need be I could have it welded by a friend out of steel but would rather work on my own and with lightweight aluminum! I made a quick sketch, my 3d drawing skills progressed as I finished up! The two bumper mounts are on the left, one cross beam to hold the supports for the box, two support beams (green) that would sit under where the walls of a truck bed would sit under the box (and where the bearing slider would be). I think the pieces of aluminum are about 5 x 5" and around 1/4" thick with even thicker corners. The blue would be bolts and extra brackets to hold the supports. The box is about 24" deep and would likely have to come out about 8" to let the door swing open. Likely going to use a system like this with skateboard bearings i have tons of to make the slider: http://www.instructables.com/id/TRUCK-BED-DRAWERS/step3/Lights/ It may get tricky if I have to raise or lower the box to avoid getting in the way of the tail lights! Was thinking of even raising it up so the wider section is over the tail lights but that would require considerably more work. Recap of my question. Will mounting this to the bumper mounts cause problems? They seemed pretty sturdy to me... Also will this aluminum bolted together be strong enough?
  4. Wow the numbering just dawned on me... They move through what a 3 pin, then 5 then 7 pin would have. Didn't understand the mixed up spoob there! Actually completely misunderstand what I was doing before but now I think I'm getting it. I'm going to have to have 4 posts in and 2 out am I not? 2 for radio L and R as well as 2 for AUX L and R into 2 amp outs? Instead I think I'm going to use 2 switches since I already have a handful of them and wire as below: Does this make sense? If both switches are switch to radio then I'll get full radio, switch both for aux. Kind of complicated but I've already got a handful of normal switches. I was going to mount all of it in the ash tray anyways and have the buttons click on automatically as you pull the tray out and push off when you push the tray in so once the work is done I won't have to turn on two things, or even one! Also I guess if I wanted to listen to my music and my girlfriend wanted the radio we could make it happen by flipping one off and one on!
  5. Oh wait durp I guess the ground goes to the audio ground in the headphone jack.... Nothing to the frame. This is why I was confused.
  6. So what you're saying based on this numbering: Put the currently jumped ports on one side of a switch (6-7 and 4-5) and 1-3 on the other side for my ipod? Where should I ground 2? To the frame? I'm terrible with electrics but if the logic is simple enough I can make it happen. The op amp seems above my head since I don't really understand what it is except for maybe a switch that works on its own when you plug in the ipod? Not sure how it would happen but it may. Anyways I guess grounding is my only issue now going to go find a 7pin din male at work and give it a shot hopefully i don't break anything.
  7. Looking to ad an aux in on my standard 93 Loyale radio but can't seem to find ANY information on the wiring. Its got a 7 pin din input instead of the 5 pin I've seen elsewhere so I am a bit lost. Anyone worked with one of these? My radio doesn't have a tape player but I assume the input I have with a jumper in is for a tape player. Here is the back of my radio the top left is a plastic insert with jumpers between pins between 6 and 7 as well as 4 and 5. Here is a thread I found with a 5 pin din just need to figure out how to do it on 7 pins! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/123124-any-interest-oem-ea-radio-ponderings/page-2 I also found some other information for other radios but can't quite figure out which pins go where http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/Ipod This seems to make sense to me so I may just give it a shot but if anyone has experience and could let me know that be great!
  8. Been spending more forum time guess this is supposed to be in member rides.... Woops
  9. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/151809-1993-loyale-build/ Thats my whip! Nothing happening right now with it just sitting, need to get my motorcycle figured out first and then will get to work on this. Seems like there might be an xt6 in Bellingham I may go raid for parts and do the 5 lug swap as the first big upgrade with new suspension.
  10. Did a job today picking up some scrap from a hospital and they had a couple of carbon boards made from foam and carbon. Incredibly light, super stiff. Stoked on the find, haven't decided what to do with them yet but I'll probably have to turn it into a bed top to flatten out the back a bit and top off a drawer I want to add underneath. Have also thought about doing a roof top tent for the beast and this would be an epic base!
  11. Have to go to the junkyard and buy one to do that. My way is $5 in scrap for the rear and I don't have to find a loyale. Not a ton of old subbies up here apparently.
  12. The goal for me is to get on this level!
  13. Pulled the rear bumped off and found out that its not really a thing anymore. Its so rusty that I could pull one of the supports off! I am thinking about cutting up a piece of aluminum to replace the steel one as it will be lighter and easier to work on (I can also get it really cheap or free). Basically all I need is a long L shaped piece and will bolt it onto the existing mounts. My only concern is that maybe its too weak! Wondering if anyone has threads/ links to making a strong bumper while keeping the original plastic outer. I'm not really too worried about rear end collisions but would like to make something a bit stronger for the front to avoid damage to critical driving components. Here is my front bumper for kicks, will be heating it up and attempting to bend it back. Have finally removed the bolts after struggling for ages and have separated the plastic from metal.
  14. So disappointed this ended here! Was really interested in seeing what was going to be done with the bumper!
  15. Just picked up a '93 Loyale last week for a 400 bucks. Its a bit rusty but seems structurally in great shape. 190 000 km and all the electrics are working! Took a couple pictures but have been pulling it apart to do some work. Pulled the bumper and started getting the lights off to clean them up and bend the bumper back as its been smashed a bit by a post from drifting in the snow. The car came included with a new clutch and radiator which are going in soon when I get time to pull the engine out! Also have new cables, belts, plugs, filters, and fluids all around for when I put everything back together. Hoping to follow that up with some work on wheels and suspension been battling on whether I want to lift and offroad or get my drift on and do some rally cross. At the moment I'm leaning towards doing rally cross but still undecided! After pulling the engine I'll likely get things cleaned up a bit rust wise and try and throw down a coat of some tough undercoat paint to keep the rust away. Figure if I blast it with a pressure washer and paint starts coming off it was likely going to flake from the rust soon anyways. Here she is for now! Bunch of trim is missing as I've been pulling it off to clean underneath but its all still in once piece... Except for that little triangle that's still attached, ughh. Been looking around lots and seeing what people have done so its tough to decide but I'm sure I'll figure it out, stoked either way especially since its my first car.
  16. Would love to hear if these are still going! I see the thread is 2 years old but if you ever feel like doing another run let us know!
