I live in that general area.Clean rust free subi's live here. If it had a clean title you might get $800-1000 for it. A fifteen year old forester with a rebuilt title with a blown no core block, has a value of around $500 around here. Your money ahead to get a used engine from Spauldings or pull and save and pay someone to install it.

They make machines to test injectors. I've never had access to one. Here's what I do. Remove each injector. Place a foot long rubber tube (fuel line) over the inlet. Fill tube with liquid , I generally use Kroil but gas works , it just tastes crappy. This is easier with a helper but I do it alone more often than not. You will need power and ground wires attached to the battery. Apply power and ground to the injector terminals while blowing pressure into the fuel line. If your injector is clean you will get a spray of liquid ,if they are shot liquid will dribble, spit out . Its very obvious when you find a bad one. If you look for used ones. be aware that automatics and standards use different injectors.

I've had two 00-04 Mt trannys in the shop this month. Both with blown u joint that took out the rear snout on the tranny. Easy fix , just drop the rear crossmember . Driveline must be replaced. Used or new. Driveline shops in Missoula will not attempt replacement joints anymore, to many balance problems. The shifter assembly will be bent beyond use. Wrecking yard item. Be sure to get the small bracket with rubber bushing that the shifter attaches to. One was a good fix , tranny was fine after replacing the rear snout. The other did damage inside. Loud whine in lower gears and jumping out of 2nd gear. Simply replaced the whole tranny rather than go in for a rebuild.

To build the tool to pull ball joints , you need a few pipe fittings ,a piece of all thread some nuts and a lug nut . You do need to drill one hole and weld the lug nut on the all thread. That's it. Its about a half hour job. If you don't have a drill or a welder , pay someone who does. A teenager in high school can build one of these.

This is a long shot for you but worth checking. On two different outback's I had a persistent abs light. Code reading said the main unit was "stuffed". or up the creek. There is a ground wire for that whole unit. I believe it originally was bolted under part of the P.S. tank. I have found this ground moved and loose and not moved but also loose. Both cases caused a main unit failure code but the fix was as simple as cleaning and tightening a ground. Take a look it won't take long.
