What are the best front brake discs?
soopsoop replied to jackbombay's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sorry to resurect this old question but my first subaru an 91 legacy fwd the brakes felt solid but didn't stop very good. they were up to the top but would lock up in panic stop which happen a lot in spokane (stupid divers). changed all the brake parts didn't affect it one bit,it was a design flaw from subaru, something about the brake hoses expanding to much pascels law of hydrolics. just my two cents worth. againj sorry about the old thread -
i checked everything else out(fuses, fusable links, ect) and they all work so i think it must be the ecu thanks for the help.

i will try the stealership some of there parts are rediculasly expensive. went to get a gallon of prop wash there and they wanted 10 dollars a gallon, that's to much.
-
well it will fill the hole until i can put something else in there.
-
that's what i thought.
-
it was the switch and the resisters, plus i had to fix the wiring a little. now it works on high and as soon as i get the resister pack the rest will work.
-
does nobody know? it's a mystery.
-
is it easy to put in a 2.2 in place of a ea82

i have a 88 dl wagon and i found out you can't tow without axles in. i am in the proccess of getting parts for the front end and have found all the parts except the front wheel brgs, they sell the rear brgs but i can't find the front set it got hot enough the rotor was glowing red hot and the hose broke and i found out brake fluid is flammible, probably the brgs are bad but they turn ok,it would make me feel better if i changed all the brake parts because i think the calipers were sticking anyway or would it be prudent to get parts from the wrecking yard. i saw an 87 turbo at pull and save and was wondering if they are the same?

i have an 88 dl wagon and when a fuse goes bad it says check fuse10 or what ever number. how do they number the fuses?
-
i keep hearing about LSD what is it ? i know you have to take some to figure out the wiring but i don't think subaru would advertise that.

i have an 88 ea82 dl wagon and the clock died(resister inside got hot enough to unsolder a resister inside),while i was at pull and save north the other day i found a gl model only it was a 87 but it had a trip computer instead of a clock, are they interchangeable or do i need more components for the trip meter to work?
-
still nothing? i checked the shop manual and couldn't find a diagram on the a/c,heater fan.
-
i will try there again. are bad ecu's common on these cars? they should have a circut breaker in the power supply of the ecu.
-
i trieed to remove the pcv hoses from the valve covers on my 88 dl e82 and the hoses were hard as a rock and broke is it possible to get molded hoses or just get vacume line and sort of put them on?
-
thanks, i downloaded the two part service manual,it looks like there is more than one power source,i think someone hooked up the battery wrong and fried a few parts,of course the battery is missing now and nobody will admit to where it is but it was new.

i got the heater blower fan to work on high now i just need the resisters for the other speeds.the fan was good, the wiring was messed up,the resister was melted, and the switch was bad. someone messed with the wiring in an attempt to get it to work.i also got the rear wiper to work, bought a motor from an 87gl(mine is an 88 dl). changed the switch also and turn the key on and the wiper works now just need an arm, details, details. the ecu has a bad resister in it so i got the ecu out of the 87 gl but didn't notice that it was a turbo it has a different box i will go back and try to exchange it for the right one, this one was sitting on the floor board right under the tilt steering with cruise not enough money, too many dreams.

i used to own a 86 or so sobaru wagon the details are sechey it has been a few years, but i got it from a friend in exchange for work done it didn't run good and had a water leak that nobody could find so i looked all around scratched my head and went to napa to buy tuneup parts and the nice beautiful behind the counter told me to look under the carb for a small water line as they have always leaked on her,loh and behold she was right but to get it replaced ment removing the carb, base gasket was bad on the carb also, went bto pull and save to get various interior parts and found a brand spanking new hatachi carb still in the box in the rear compartment of a wagon i bought it wether i needed it or not it was only 15 bucks, put that sucker on and it fired right and purred like a kitten full of milk then about a year later i got t boned in a intersection by a woman and a big jeep because she was talking on her cell phone she had full coverage and i had liability i got no ticket and about 200 bucks for my car damn cell phones

i have an 88 dl wagon with spfi and was wondering where does the ecm get its power? mine is not getting any power,no little light, good fuses and fusable ;links i am perplexed.

i tested the coil with a better meter and it has 1.5 ohms on the primary side and about 5.7k ohms on the secondary side so i think the coil is ok but not sure about the ign module but if there is no pulse when the engine is cranked. the diode that is wired with the ign module is bad supposed to have continuity one way and not the other and it has none either way and the light doesn't come on on the ecu, there is power to the ign relay but i can't get it to click or work i took the cover off the ecm and saw a bad resistor i think i will make a trip to pull and save, what ecm will work? do they have to be number matching or do i have to spend 400 bucks for a rebuilt one?
-
thanks i think it died and took the ecm out with it,no light on the ecm ever.
-
i have an 88 dl wagon an ea82 and found out the diode for the ign relay was bad bypassed it and found out the ign relay is bad also so something took both out and i noticed when i put the key in the ign it dings slowly but if i jiggle the key a bit the dinging speeds up. all my dash lights works, not sure about the gas gauge until i put gas into it it has read 1/4 of a tank for 1 yr now. the am /fm radio works but the numbers and letters are all wore off and i don't have an owners manual. retested the ign coil with a good meter and its ok not sure of the module but i was using dads expensive digital test meter(about 500 bucks) had to return it before he got back from lunch. fixed the wiring for the a/c fan now i just need a relay and maybe a switch, does the high speed go through the relay also or is it seperate, because i still have no fan unless i hook it up directly?

is it possible to put a engine out of a 91 legacy mpfi, distless ign in a 88 dl wagon?
-
i have an 88 dl wagon and the a/c blower fan doesn't work the resistors are bad and the wires going to the motor was bad so the p.o. bypassed them.i have fixed those and checked the fan itself and it works if i apply 12v to it directly, the two fuses are ok and i am not sure how to check the switch and am not sure where the relay is i downloaded the fsm but it doesn't have the a/c diagram, help its getting confusing the fan should work on high without the resistor pack but nothing happens and it is down to 40 degrees here now!
