  1. Hi, so my dad was the one who was asking how much his 1984 Subaru GL hardtop 2 door 1.8L would be to sell. Well im the one who was driving it, his 17 year old son. I love the memories i have had with it so far with my friends and i told my dad that i just couldn't let it go especially knowing that this was his first car he ever bought and that now im driving it, so there's some sentimental value with this too. Anyways he gave it to me and so the deal was that i paid for gas and maintenance...heres the catch. It sat in a garage for 8 years without being started up. there was a main wire that was broken but other than that it was fine, so we fixed that and it started up with 8 year old gas!! (mind blown!!!). Anyways me being a teenage boy who loooooooooove cars and bikes i might have broke it not sure though. i thing it is either a head gasket that is blown or O-rings broken. here are the thing that happen ever time i drive it... -the oil pressure after about 15 min on a cold start will go down form 65 psi to 25 max!! while driving at any launch or speed. when i am standing still after that 15 or 20 min it will idle with 0 psi on oil. - it will bog after not being started for a couple hours and/or when i have one or two people in it and i used to be able to fit 5 i my fat rump roast friends!! - oil is also being used fairly quick. its not leaking out of the engine except maybe the pcv valve. with that please please please tell me what it could be. and dont be afraid to ask for anymore details!!! thanks in advance!
  2. That would be great if I could do that, but since I have a 6 car garage, and I have yet to be able to park my truck in it-where to store it, is the issue-
  3. The truth is, if I get close to these numbers I would be happy. Thanks for the input.
  4. I remember the sunroof as a simple oval style that popped up in the back as a vent, or you could take it completely off. Then again, that was 30+ years ago, so I could be way off. The way the salesman put it, I believe there was more of a "Lack of Desire" for a two door over a four. All I know, I have never seen another locally, or one for sale on the internet-but I am sure they exist.
  5. There always seems to be a story behind any car that people have passion about. Hearing of some of them from others has most certainly made me look back on mine in more detail. Having driven my car only 2 of the 30 years its been around is small, but, those two, while in my early twenty's, crisscrossed me throughout the United States and in excess of 30k miles, in all sorts of weather (without the need of snow tires even in February in New England). Like most things like this, the value really isn't attached to a dollar amount. Thanks again everyone.
  6. Uh! I remember the sunroof and power window options, along with the A/C, but since this was the first car I had ever purchased on my own my blood pressure was already sky high...that August in the deep South I most certainly questioning my A/C decision. How on earth did you have so little milage? Were you the original owner? Thanks for the comp. Did you sell yours locally, or Ebay?
  7. Thank you, will do. Why am I selling it? Well, sometimes I wonder that same thing. I bought it new, drove it for two years, parents bought it and drove for about 7 years, then passed onto to my sister, who drove it for 5 years. It then sat in my Mom and Dads garage pretty much until I pulled it out, fixed the stuff that needed it, and my son has been driving it for about 2 years. It's become kind of a family heirloom, if you will ( . Biggest reason is, regardless of all the great memories I have of the car, the fact my whole family has had it and it was my son's first car, I just don't see any benefit to letting it sit around for another 15 years without driving it. As much nostalgia is attached to it, I guess it is time to be practical. I am sure i will end up regretting it as much as i do that my Dad sold my first car. Then again, it was a 69' Z-28 that he paid $1,800 for in the 80's...and I have a sneaking suspicion I would gotten his money back for him. Thanks again to everyone that has responded to my question, it has really helped, and I will follow up and let you know where it ends up.
  8. When I bought it, the salesman told me that he had never seen one either and that they were just not desirable and were trying to get rid of it. I personally have never seen another. I was 22 at the time and thought the 2 door was cooler. So, you think Ebay would be the way to go. I have no experience on the selling end of Ebay, so are you saying set a High Reserve and see what happens, or a high Buy It Now? Thanks.
  9. Heck! I would be happy and amazed with anything over $2,500. Brand new, tax, license, out the door (as they say) it was $9,200. Not to mention it makes me feel about the money I have put into it so my son could drive it. Thanks a lot everyone. Really appreciate it, and I will report back on the winning number.
  10. Will Dang! It worked. Than you. Yea, it is a very clean 30 year old car. The story on the history kind of explains why. It has the weirdness mixed with sentimental attachment.
  11. Will I am moving into the stupid stage, but will give this a try again. The first time it said that they don't except "That Type of Link". I am doing it from Picasa. https://goo.gl/photos/nVvDYinGhfNXxEZD9
  12. Understood. I would love to post the pics, but can't seem to be able to find anything on how to do that. I have them on my desktop, so the URL thing is above me.
  13. I am sure. Yea there is no rust on it. Just have to find the correct person I guess.
  14. No, it's front well drive. I am in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Subaru's seem to be popular here, but that is just my opinion. Thanks for your reply.
  15. Sorry about the delay. Got a little busy. It's a 5 speed, front wheel drive, 2 door, cruise control, set up for a/c, but doesn't have it, tilt steering wheel, original Subaru stereo, has no tears in upholstery or head liner, carpet's are in good shape, the trunk carpet is new, comes with two snow tires, new exhaust, new alternator. Tires good, paint is pretty good, but the black around the rear windows as you can see in the picture is peeling. The biggest issue is that the door panel on the passenger has a big hole (about 6" in diameter). The car is pretty original and has 125k miles. Ok. One small problem. I have no idea as to how to get these photos on. The photo's are on my desktop and in my Picasa? Sorry.
  16. If this has been asked already, sorry, but I didn't see it. I realize this is going to be a question that nobody really knows because it is what the market will bear. I am an original owner of a 1984 Subaru GL, 2 door. Everything on it is original. Miles 120,000, no rips or tears to the interior, paint is in decent shape, runs well, tires are good, everything works,... I have decided to sell it for no other reason than, there is no reason (other than sentiment) to keep it. I realize it isn't worth much, but I am curious as to how much, or would it be better to part it out, donate it,... Thanks to anyone who throws in their two bits.
  17. Wish I could add some value to the issue, but mine ended up being just a short, or past the pigtail of the one bad low beam light. Best of luck. Electrical troubleshooting is never fun.
  18. Thanks a lot for that information. The fuses checked out, and now makes sense why. I will move to the next thing.
  19. Thanks. Will give that a shot. If it turns out to be the connector pigtail itself, are those hard to come by?
  20. That was the reason why it failed in the first place, water got in it. The replacement lamp was new and it was a 3 prong sealed lamp. I need to check the fuse, and rule that out, not familiar with Earth Switching? Are you saying that there is a conversion kit for the lights? Don't know if all models of this era had it, this car has auto lights when the car comes on. I don't know if that would make a difference, or not. Thanks for the you suggestion and help. Will give it a shot and see if it gets me anywhere.
  21. Have a 84' GL with some type of low beam head light issue. Had a low beam light go out on me, so I installed a new one, but it still did not come on. When I tried the high beams, all 4 lights (including the new low beam one that wasn't functioning on low) came on. I checked the connection and the low beam stock number to make sure I didn't buy a high beam one by mistake. Both checked out. I assume it is electrical, but really don't know. Any thoughts, suggestions, troubleshooting ideas, would be appreciated.
  22. Thanks. You tell me. I truly would have no idea as to what it is worth...much less how to put it on. I am interested though. Thanks for all the other suggestions.
  23. I have a 84' GL 2 dr with a broken gas tank door. The door itself is fine, by the plastic closing mechanism is what is broken, not allowing the lid to stay closed. Attached a couple of pictures that hopefully will make my statement clearer. What I am wondering is if anyone knows where I can get a new, used, part, of if not, any suggestions on fixing it, or modifying. Thanks in advance for all your in put.
