Ok so, I have a '97 Legacy L Sedan EJ22 with about 82K on it now. I bought at 60K and have done the oil changes on a regular basis until recently. I have gone 6K since my last change. Recently I have been smelling a burning rubber/plastic from the engine area every time I park my car in the garage after driving for as little as 5-10 minutes. I search of diagnosing the problem myself I was surprised at what I found looks to be going on under my car. It looks as though 1) Oil is leaking from my engine 2) Coolant is leaking from somewhere and 3) The oil is leaking onto my radiator hose... i have not replaced the timing belt, tensioners, drive belts, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, trans fluid flush, coolant flush etc. yet but am thinking, I should do it all now as an early 90K service due to the neglect of service. Here are some pics to see what's happening. Please comment and let me know what else may need to be done service wise. Thanks in advance. Bad air filter? Should I be worried about my drive belt pulley rusting like this?

I've got a 97' Legacy Sedan making that same kinda noise "like an old box spring mattress".... I like it... However, my noise seems to be coming from the front two wheels when I go over speed bumps... is it my struts or my springs or the CV boot????? I don't know what it is but it kinda worries me when I got over bumps... Also, I have been get a burning plastic kinda smell from the driver's side of my engine... any clue what that could be from?

I found that site already and tried pressing the reset button connected to the keyless entry module for 1 second with the keys in the ON position, but it didn't change anything... if it helps, the PN of the module is #H7110AS011 and I DO only have the keyless entry system... no added security kit or anything. Before the repair shop had my car I remember with disconnecting the battery for like an hour while installing my fog lights my parking lights and such flashed repeatedly when I reconnected the battery (as they should) and stopping flashing when I hit unlock on my remote. Now, when I disconnect and reconnect the battery, nothing happens. One subaru dealership said something about valet mode and a red led switch somewhere but I don't know where or what color wires it is attached to... any help would be greatly appreciated!

After having my Legacy in for some fender work, my keyless entry system isn't working like it used to. The transmitter are locking and unlocking the doors like they should however, the parking lights/dash lights/tailights are not flashing with the locking and unlocking of my car anymore. The repair shop told me they did have my battery disconnected for a long period of time and didn't recall seeing the lights flashing when the battery was connected again. Please help me out. It's not an emergency but it is an annoyance and all the dealerships I've called don't know what the heck to do.

After much searching I found a plethora of information on another message board dealing with this same situation. Here is the .pdf file with in depth instructions on replacing the burnt out bulbs in the HVAC Unit and almost any switch in Subaru vehicles. The Radio Shack bulbs are nice and cheap and work wonders. Be careful about using LEDs in the AC unit as they usually run 2V at 30mA and the OEM bulbs run 9.5V (or 12v) at 60mA. Using an LED of 2V is gonna look great (if it works at all), but only for about a week before it burns out from too much voltage and current. As far as changing of colors, Subaru uses these little rubber shields (or as some say, "bulb condoms"). If I were to go about changing colors, I would just buy some color gels (Rosco or any other theatre brand) and cut and stick them behind the switch or wherever you are putting it. Hope I've been of help to some. The bulbs from Radio Shack come in a package of two (272-1092) #7219 Micro Lamp (12V 60mA, Wire-terminal base). I got each pack for $1.50. The Radio Shack bulbs are slightly smaller so the use of a ballpoint pen ink tube cut up as a spacer works very well! The original bulb PN's are #72351AC051 and #72351AC061 and run for anywhere from $3-12 each! This "mod" will save you lots of money and time in a way as there are so many bulbs usually needing replacement and a limited number in stock at the dealerships. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4280 Good luck!

I have been looking for fogs to my 97 Legacy L Sedan and finally found them on eBay brand new for $54 altogether. They are the projector type. I think the dealership who is selling their leftover stock has a few more. I am gonna attempt to put a picture of it up. If anything a link to the eBay listing. <img src=http://i4.ebayimg.com/04/i/05/ae/05/10_1.JPG border="0" alt="" /> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995-1997-SUBARU-LEGACY-FOG-LAMP-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33709QQitemZ8021415971QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW ^ That's the link. Hope it helps you out.

I have '97 Subaru Legacy L and it's been having the same kind of symptoms as newsooby's '99 OBW. I will leave for school in the cold dark morning and I get a rush of gasoline fumes. I talked with a friend who is an all around car guy and he said to check the fuel lines, but I bought my car from a private owner who lost the owner's manual, so I don't know where to check it. The gas smell goes away after about 20-30 mins of driving but man does it stink when it starts up. Any help would be much appreciated.
