I've been wanting to build another lifted wagon after giving my daughter my 93 lifted Loyale. So I found a super clean 86 GL wagon and picked it up for my project.155,000 miles on a rust free car with incredible interior for the age. This is the KEEPER!so plans include a 4 inch lift and an EJ SWAP!!and it happend today!did a power steering transplant from a 91 Legacy to my GL,that didn't have power steering.a couple of mods to that and it fit it there!Next I got ready to drop the EJ in.Slapped on my ADF adapter plate and clutch pack.cut the nipples off the EJ mounts and lowered the motor.after a few adjustments and BAM!its all bolted up in the engine bay.hopefully I can get it fired up tomarrow!have a thinned out harness that looks in order.that process took three days!installing the high pressure fuel pump out of a Loyale and running new fuel lines.Have a brand new radiator and some 12 inch cooling fans.Making progress!

OK so my girlfriend lost the only key to her 97 Legacy.i have a 91 Legacy that is my donor car with a keyed ignition.will those inter change?they look the same and the key from the 91 fits in the 97.already have the 91 down to just the column.is it easier to change the whole column or just the key part

those say thats a 16 inch.might be tight to fit but depending on tire size and lift they could work.

there is a mixture screw right in the front of the carb.try turning it in until it starts to sputter and then back it out till it runs smooth.also there is an accelerater pump adjustment on the back of the linkage.maybe your not getting enough throw to give it a shot of gas when you accelerate.check for hoses that are possable air or vaccume leaks

i have a 86 GL 4X4 Wagon and it doesnt have power steering.im EJ swapping it and would like to have power steering since i will be lifting it and running larger tires.i have a Legacy parts car with power steering.will that rack work in a GL?also i noticed there is no hole in the GL crossmember for the lines to pass through so im assuming i need to change the crossmember to a power rack one.

hey there Whitefish!im over here in Libby.getting ready to do my ej swap!i would check some local wrecking yards and see what you come up with.the last set i did were some aluminum wheels of a nissan and they fit nice and didnt stick out to much.i do like a little offset, but maybe you can judge it better while its still on a vehicle.

well got the harness thinned for my ej swap.everything seems to be in place but the tach wire.it leads to a ground.on the back of the cluster off the 91 legacy there are three connections for the tach.i used the one marked TA.the other two are marked GRD and IGN.after tracing the wire down it led to a ground.what the heck!any help?

ok thanks.

ok doing the harness thinning process on my swap.my question is the harness from my donor car is an automatic.there are two computer boxes and the one with the EE on it i'm assuming is the control box for the auto trans, but some of the wires are linked to the plugs on the engine control box.can i cut those wires?the write up im using doesnt show any of that.

well i did it!just put the engine back together and its running great.did have one little issue with a stuck thermostat and a loose hose.blew the antifreeze, but got that fixed and put another 150 miles on it with no problems!it does have a CEL on but i think it was on when i bought it.engine shakes a little at idle but other wise runs strong.brand new plugs gapped at 44,new wires.happy with it so far.lets see how long she goes!

im kinda at the point of no return on this repair.already have new head gaskets and other engine gaskets.new timing covers to replace melted ones and having heads shaved.how hard is it to change rod bearings?ive built several air cooled vw engines.that are simular design.its down to the short block still in the car right now.
