  1. just wanted to mention this since my hard to find 1979 Subaru Dealership Repair Manual Book that explains pretty much everything in ridiculous detail about the EA71 and anything inbetween, except the oil pump. it shows an exploded view of the oil pump pressure sensor, apparently if you want to rebuild the little thing or something? useless.
  2. When replacing the oil pump on a EA71, make sure you bring the plate inbetween the block and pump with the oil pump, 2 backwards screws that you can't access unless the pump is removed is what's holding that plate to the pump, also this casted plate is very fragile, so any prying will cause it to crack, but unfortunately the cylindrical piece that is in the block that needs to come out with the pump feels almost like it's pressed in, so it takes a ridiculous amount of force, poor design, be ready to order a remanufactured pump because the chances of this 40 year old pump coming out intact are pretty much non existant.

  4. alright, ill post them up tonight or tomorrow morning. love the exedy clutch, I put it on my impreza as a stage 1, abuse the hell out of it, and it's held up for over a year and still like new, longer than any other clutch i've ever had on there, and i've gone through a few already.
  5. about 2 years ago on my 89 GL my hill holder actually failed on me in a weird way, sometimes when at an uphill, the hill holder wouldn't release after releasing the clutch pedal, ended up discontinuing it and just letting it live in the engine bay uselessly, was a cool little feature though i do have to say, reminds me of a Studebaker. i know the cable comes from the front to the rear direction, opposite from a clutch cable on a fork, it's held in place by a U tab, like the one that holds the brake like on the front of an EA82 Strut, there's also a tiny almost impossible to find nut in the rear of it for adjustment, i do have a few examples in my possession if you want some really close up pictures of one?

  7. If you need better pictures of the compressors I can supply those, these are older pictures that I took months ago on another thread on here. I happen to own both versions of A/C setups.
  8. well theres not much more to go through once you swap those out and bleed the lines completely, unless you see fluid dripping on the floor everytime you brake.
  9. yeah that OEM foglight switch is alittle rare to find, i still have that switch in a box in the attic, was lucky too in 2013 to find a top of the line GL10 with one at the junkyard.
  10. i've been getting mine from old 80's and 90's Toyota's, they're pretty universal rubber things. just go look around at a junkyard and at random vehicles, i've just been getting them from Toyota's since they are next to the Subaru's at my Junkyard.
  11. think he's talking about an EA82.. Make sure those corner lights are in good condition from your donor vehicle, they are ridiculously hard to find since they are skinnier and a different shape than regular EA82's. you need the buckets where the headlights sit, and i think you may also need the grille, it's been a few years since i've seen one so can't remember fully.
  12. why? they are inefficient, has an unnecessary giant motor, sucks up more amps, are slow and don't blow as much air with those smaller blades, try putting in EA82 fans in there, and plus you can do duals with little modification in the mounting of them to the radiator, something that is needed im sure in Oklahoma.
  13. not to be against Skishop69, but my pedal would go straight to the floor with little pressure on my EA71, i swapped it with an EA82 Master cylinder because of the lack of parts, and after modifying it heavily it still went straight to the floor, swapped the brake booster and now it feels like any vehicle, not sure why it was the brake booster, made no sense... just saying. but it could be air in the lines too, before going to extremes, like Skishop 69 mentioned, try properly bleeding, and even doing it with 2 people isn't the "proper way" of bleeding, buy a $6 vacuum pump.
  14. that's impressive that it fit in a medium flat rate box, would have never expected that outcome... guess the EA82 compressors are smaller than what i thought they were, weight wise you should be fine.
  15. large flat rate boxes are 12x12x5 inches, not sure if the EA82 compressor will clear the height, and you can't deform the box as that will cause it to mail regularly, unless you get some new guy up front. there are other variants of flat rate boxes, but none will help you since they occupy the same amount of cubic space inside, for example they get slimmer but longer for books and posters and such.
  16. limit on USPS Flat Rate boxes is 70lbs, that's my full time job mon-fri calculating postage and analysing data, so i would know lol. a large box isn't very large, might fit, but i have my doubts...
  17. you also have the more common "easier" to find compressor.
  18. Factory installed, although i wasn't aware of the different brands of compressors the factory put on them over the years.
  19. im sure you have the dealer added one, why not take a picture and post it on here to confirm?
  20. once again, if your compressor has the 8 bunny ears in every corner, that is just a generic dealer added compressor, you can get that compressor at any automotive A/C store like Carlisle, i don't know the part number of the generic compressor since it varies, but just bring your compresor with you, they'll have that one in stock and with a few brand options, you might have to modify the fittings form the hose to the metal collar, but any A/C shop can do that for you. i've already been down this road, i don't understand... --battery on Passenger side=EA 81 --battery on Drivers side=EA 82 (disclaimer: for those people that drive on the correct side of the road like in america)
  21. wow! well this is gonna be gone in a few hours from now, too bad im on the other side, amazing that stuff like this is still out there hiding.
  22. so i got the numbers, looks like right after getting off of the highway and stopped at a light after driving for an hour at 65mph, im reading at 190F on the head of the block, and 165 on the coolant right when it's comming out of the block before being cooled in the radiator, on a hot 4pm day outside at 101F. what's interesting is the 40 year old temp needle is at half when it's 175 on the head and 150 on the coolant. and about 2/3 the way up when it's around 190 on the head of the block and 165 on the hottest point for the coolant. is 190Block/165coolant hot for an EA71? 65mph screaming it's head off at 4,000rpm?
  23. what. in. the. world. is. that! looks like a Lotus from the front and some sort of 80's Ferrari from the rear, except they shrunk everything down.

Never have used armor-all on any of my dashboards, don't trust the long term effects of it, plus it attracts lots of hair for the next few weeks, My dad used to use Automatic Transmission Fluid as an Armor All substitute back in the early 70's while he owned a car lot to make the vehicles more attractive when selling them...
