1978 Subaru 4WD wagon parts for sale
Subasaurus replied to NLAParts's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
need a manifold for a EA71 need the brake booster and a master cylinder. how much for the driver door panel? upper and lower portions. any mudflaps? any rear Brat exterior seatbelt mechanisms? also sent you a PM -
probably only leaks on the highway when its the hottest and highest pressure in the system, took a few days to find my leak since it would only occur in those circumstances, turned out to be where the radiator fins and side passages meet up at, weird one. pressure testing it would work to eliminate that too like Crazyeights mentioned, and any pinhole leaks on any hose.

79 DL WAGON ALT. WIRING HELP....
Subasaurus replied to MICHAEL1977's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
does it still have the original regulator on the vehicle? i have the specs on how to calibrate the points inside of it if you know how to do it, wouldn't mind posting it up if you need it. i didn't bother and just bought a new one, they're like 20 bucks. both of my EA71's needed them, one at 65,000miles, the other at 95,000miles. common item to go out of calibration. also redo those ring terminals that go in the back of the alternator, they're not the best quality. --- forgot to mention, i've never had power to that original wire that goes to the fuel pump on any of my EA71's, not sure why, infact it showed it was being a ground instead of a hot wire. i tapped switch power from the + ignition coil, stuck a relay to the shock tower, ran a power wire from the battery on a fuse to the relay, and then another wire from the relay to the fuel pump. do you know how to wire a relay? -
79 DL WAGON ALT. WIRING HELP....
Subasaurus replied to MICHAEL1977's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
are you still using the original fuel pump? the one that clicks constantly like its some kind of dog trainer clicker? that belongs in the trash, also don't buy the aftermarket "OEM" one that they sell at oreilly's or autozone, i think its by direct import, they go out every 2 months for whatever reason. i got a MR. Gasket Fuel Pump for GM Vehicles, but make sure you get a fuel regulator for it inline or else your fuel bowl will be too full and making left turns or right turns will shut your engine off, depending on what carb you currently have. -
Gas smell in a '79 Brat with EA81 conversion.
Subasaurus replied to yournmhr's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
they sell pressure regulators, Mr. Gasket has one for about $30 at any autoparts store, i put a GM pump with a regulator on mine. also perhaps a pinhole leak due to age of the hose when things warm up? reminds me of my coolant leak that woudn't leak unless i was on the highway, turned out to be the radiator after a few days of confusion. -
could not agree more, $10-$15 repair overhere from someone i know, i avoid the plastic/metal radiators at all costs, destined to fail.

i have never removed the pedals before, but i've read that all 3 pedals come out as a whole, reason for members doing that on here is because when the clutch pedal backing begins to crack, which has never happened to me before on both of my EA71's, so i have no idea how that even occurs in the first place, you don't have as much reach with the pedal due to flexing, so the only way to fix it is to weld it up. what i do know since i've done it multiple times already is the cable where it links to the pedal is the most difficult thing about a cable replacement, but the accelerator pedal is more difficult than the clutch pedal, if that brings your hopes up, its uncomfortable as hell and your ribs will be stabbed by the vehicle being upside down on the seat with your legs against the roof. alittle hard to explain but the cylinder where they fused the cable to the chunk of lead? or whatever material that little cylinder is made out of needs to be poked out from the side with a small screwdriver, but before doing that, you need to feed enough cable to the pedal so that an arch forms above it.. little cylinder woun't come out unless the excess cable is pointing straight up. its a dual safety mechanism so you're not stranded with a cable disconnected, even though you can still drive a manual without a pedal since these cars don't have a clutch safety switch to avoid starting while in gear.

never had a facebook in my life, ill just keep an eye out on here then...
-
lost the spring on my 79 wagon when i was replacing the clutch cable, couldn't find one anywhere but its not necessary, but it gets rid of the slop on the pedal so it doesn't rattle around, i just went to home depot and got a generic longer spring, modified it with a torch and pliers, although im still not sure where its actually suppose to attach to over the block. also expect about 7,000-10,000miles on an aftermarket clutch cable, you can extend its life by lubricating the inside of the cable with lithium grease every 2,000 miles, just fill it up until it begins to come out of the inside by the clutch pedal, also make sure all the washers, screws, and the angle the cable was in is exactly the same.

yes access door, sorry about that, not a fan of the knob since it sticks out so far, but then again the lock was a joke, anything that could fit in there would open it, almost like it only had 1 barrel, so much for keeping people out. and will do! where can i find your parts for sale exactly? i went to the 4x140 forum, and its a mess, perhaps i wasn't in the right place...
-
hey never thought of that! thanks, they are alittle hard, but not brittle yet, will do when i get the drivers seat reupholstered.
-
so strange... so your 78 has the black paint trim, my 79 wagon did also, and my 80 brat also has it, well used to have it until i got some parts from the other side of the world for it, that came from a 78, guess they did different things in other parts of the world. now i gotta find flat spoke rims! better yet, some mags! just gonna ride it as is, unique paint that takes 40 years to achieve. got one more question, gas tank designs seem to change over the years? my 79 had the key hole to open the tank, but the brat is just a twist knob, would you know anymore details on this?
-
I guess that confirms I won't be painting the vehicle and leaving the original paint as is, half my friends tell me to repaint it, the other half tells me not to.
-
i put my old seats from my 1990 loyale in a go cart i made, i would hang onto them, they are really comfortable seats in my own opinion, also try driving any EA71 Subaru, you'll be seeing the Loyale or any EA82 as a luxury vehicle that gives you leg room.
-
nono, you are right, black paint on 79 and 80. 1978 would be chrome all the way around with no black paint across where the 2 top screws are, i got these corner lights from Israel including New old stock tail lights too. 4 Spoke steering wheel. is it possible this brat got generation 2, 8 spoke rims or theres absolutely no way and someone swapped the rims from a EA81? i absolutely love the quad lights, im with you on that one. and im perfectly fine with things pointed out that aren't correct on the vehicle or atleast suspicious about them, i would prefer to learn what was suppose to be there so i know what im looking for to complete the vehicle, but ill beat you to 2 of them first, the mirrors are from a 1993 Lincoln Town Car, and the front bumper bumpers are from a 1982 Lincoln Continental.
-
heres the Brat where these parts came from..
-
im guessing the shield is exactly the same for an EA71 and an EA81? this one came from the bed of a EA71 Brat, but then again, there were hubcaps that wern't for the wheels of this brat in the bed, or perhaps the brat used to have different rims when it rolled off the dealership?

1980 GL 4WD Wagon - free!
Subasaurus replied to battlecat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is a very good parts vehicle to part out... What happened to the roof there? Did a tree fall on it? -
But you still figured out the pouches! Are these hubcaps rare by any chance? Or the pouches?
-
thanks Moosens! i appreciate it

Brumby UHF radio install
Subasaurus replied to Knucklehead Saloon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thats a really cool looking stock radio though! would love to grab it from you but im pretty sure Australia runs on different bands than the USA. probably explains why it looks so cool. only thing it would be useful for here would be to play music through a cassette adapter. - researched alittle and the only frequencies that i would be able to listen to here in the USA is between 87.7 MHz-90.0MHz, which usually only has church talk and talk radio on those bands lol. -
Oh wow, wasn’t expecting that fast of a response, thanks a lot you guys! Finally I know where these things go, although having a Webber and being in Texas, I doubt I need the carburetor shield warmer but I’m glad I didn’t throw it away! And seat belt covers would have been nice 40years ago before they seized up, they’re just sort of decoration now, gotta take them apart and see what seized in there. This was also in the back of the pick up with the rest of the junk, is this Subaru related? They look like very small hubcaps, but they don’t say Subaru or a Fuji logo anywhere, and I already had all 4 centercaps on the 8spoke rims, and they look nothing like these.. only got 3 of these.
-
so when i bought this 1980 Brat, there was a bunch of stuff in the bed and inside of it, most of it trash, but the pouch sort of stood out due to the quality and water resistant materials they're made of? theres 2 pouches, i thought they were for the original tools like the wooden screw driver and such but the pouches aren't symmetrical and too small for such things.. and theres two. and this chunk of plastic that has the Fuji Heavy Industries logo on it, and i still can't figure out where these go after many months later.

Looking for '78 Brat brakes
Subasaurus replied to Huck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i never had problems finding rear drum shoes on my EA71's, autozone and oreilly's were able to order them for you a year ago with a 1 day wait time for me, maybe because they are infact the same as EA81's? now the front brake pads are somewhat getting hard to find, rock auto is the only one i know of that still has them available.
