  1. i screwed up one of the front rotors 3 years ago by accidentally placing a brake pad backwards in the brake caliper, made a nice groove on the disk from the nipple present on the brake pad. took forever to find a rotor, everywhere i looked, the part is not available, finally found one on ebay 7 months later, a used one, but in better condition than my current one, $80 for just one rotor. sold the 79 wagon due to the fact that it was working flawlessly and i was worried that the next part that would break would doom it for more months to come. im actually currently deciding if to sell my 80 Brat or not due to the lack of parts, its my dream vehicle, but who knows how long i can keep it on the road. to reduce the wear on it, i stopped driving it daily and now i only drive it on saturdays and thats it, pretty depressing...
  2. so one is a phase one and the other is a phase 2 right? by the hood designs..
  3. what is that growing on that front window on the second picture? mold? and im not fully understanding your story, are you gonna purchase these and restore them? or just a find that some friend had at their ranch?
  4. old post lol, but you could apply for a bondage title today, a few laws have changed in Texas the past few years to make it easier to aquire an old classic vehicle title and revive the thing, you are probably looking at somewhere around $425 though, and you don't get a plate for it immediately, gotta wait about 20-30 days unless you go to a private title place where they charge you an additional $20-50 for the "convenience fee" also make sure you have a bill of sale, if you do not, just make one before you go in.
  5. i thought the same thing at first, only earl should be going into engines.
  6. my 79 and 80 brat both are a bit glitchy on the gears using 80w90 the first 5 minutes of driving under 35 degrees, Amsoil isn't as easy to come by overhere, no one sells it in stores, so the only way to aquire it is online.
  7. thats stressful! would be funny if the light comes when you only got like 2 miles till empty. had an 89GL Wagon that when the orange light illuminated, i had about 10-12miles till it left me stranded. the "standard" on todays cars is 40 miles after the needle hits E or 0miles remaining.
  8. put a floor jack under the transmission and raise it up pretty good, take the radiator out, and get some bearing grease and put a bunch of it on the end of the shaft, that will help.
  9. oh, i was reffering to the other clutch kit parts, also when matching the transmission/bell housing to the engine, is the transmission shaft going in correctly with little struggle? im thinking you just had bad luck with the bearing at the end of the day.
  10. pilot bearing i think is what you are talking about? when tapping it in the flywheel, are you tapping on the outside edges with a socket? how are you installing the pilot bearing? i've messed one up before by accidentally tapping on the inner of the bearing, went to feel it with my finger and bearings already had flatspots, had to replace it, also, see if its a Made In Japan bearing, those are closer to OEM than anything else, theres Chinese and Japanese bearings with those kits, can't remember the brands at the moment. also dealer still has 40 year old parts??
  11. Completely worth the Webber Carb, i know $300 is alot, but once you crank on the vehicle and it starts right up with little tuning, it will completely bring a smile to your face like it did to me, the hardest thing about the install of the carb was removing all the emission nonsense. also keep in mind, that original Hitachi carburetor is made to function correctly with the emission crap on it, that probably isn't even working anymore after almost 40 years, removing them and making that Hitachi Carb is a matter of luck, like Sapper 157 mentioned, get a New Carb, don't forget about the special adapter plate for your manifold, and a new gasket to your manifold.
  12. Dave, where do you buy your old Subaru alternator parts from? do they all come from NAPA? i would love to repair/rebuild one myself, but the internal components cost either almost as much or more than the whole alternator itself, this is why its not worth rebuilding one these days, as far as i could tell..
  13. how much was shipping on something like this? just out of curiosity? i currently have the high roll bar and the non high roll bar to whack your skull on.
  14. like blue fenders for $35 for the pair? in perfect shape? heres a magical link http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/166140-anyone-interested-in-ea-82-parts/ the white fenders and gray fenders are already sold.
  15. only ever seen 1 quad EA82, years ago, i studied it pretty good though, you need the corner lights, the buckets for the quads, probably should grab the quads too since they aren't cheap, the grille is attached to the underside of the quads themselves for some reason. be aware though, those corner lights are extremely rare to find these days, already hard to find regulars ones for single big beam ones which are fatter, and i think the amber part of them on the side change over the years too. although i will agree, they look so much better with the boxy look of the EA82, best of luck finding some!
  16. if you're willing to travel alittle, theres a guy in Buda, TX, that is the only person i trust, new and old Subaru's, he's been working on Subaru's since the late 70's, he's rebuilt a transmission for me, thats about all i've ever needed from him, but he has from a 1979 GL sitting in the back of his shop, to a 2011 outback, and other cars inbetween.
  17. i don't understand why you get all pissy, we might not all like each other, heck i don't like everyone on here, but we all have the same interest and thats old Subaru's, and thats all that really matters on here, i may care that you have a wife and a dog and a house, but ill forget about it in about 5 minutes after reading it.
  18. his profile says 82gl, so he is in the right place, were here to help buddy to keep that old subie on the road.
  19. i've had clutches from autozone, oreilly's and Advance, and they slip like crazy from new (made in China, and some parts from Mexico) Exedy on the other hand... best $160 i've ever spent (on an Impreza), plus the pilot bearing and throwout bearings actually say made in japan and such, good quality stuff there, grabs like a Motha f***** Exedy all the way for me. I was actually stunned and amazed when i ordered brake pads for a 79 Subie through rock auto, actually had the Fuji Heavy Industries Logo on them, wasn't expecting that one, box looked from the late 90s or so though.
  20. not sure if Subaru intended to make all the dashlights faintly glow as the diodes in the alternator failed or it's just some coincidence in the way Subaru wired the dash, either way pissed me off whenever i would buy a remanufactured alternator, install it just to have the dash lights glow even brighter, thats why i would just change it in the parking lot of the autoparts store.
  21. joined april 2nd 2018, hated by all on april 10th 2018, you sir have accomplished something that many find difficult to accomplish on purpose.
