Anyone interested in EA-82 Parts?
Subasaurus replied to Subasaurus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i do have mechanical seatbelts, they are in pretty good shape last time i drove the car (no tears) although this one is not removable in 2 pieces (lap belt of shoulder belt option) its just your normal standard seat belt like today's cars. Sent you a PM, thanks for the interest! -

Trailer hitch would be a nightmare, but if this helps, the Reese trailer hitch came from my friends 1998 Toyota 4Runner Parts car, they all came stock with them. i just had to cut some of the length of the arms off, but besides that, worked out great.perhaps finding one locally would be best for that item. Stock Radio wires with plug $6 One Drivers Side Headlight that doesn't leak water in- $10 for the Metal/Glass one, or $6 for the Plastic/Glass headlights. for the pair would be $15 for Metal/Glass or $10 for Plastic/Glass. -

enough people asking for parts finally got me close enough to the crank, if you are still looking for a good EA-82 Crank, i now have it removed and available. 95,000mile crank. $35 plus shipping. -
my 89 wagon loved the highway more than the surface streets, i would go to mexico with the wagon (5hour drive) at 70-75mph the whole way, most comfortable vehicle i've ever had on the highway, or it could have just been the seats. although revolutions were pretty high, it never cared, never overheated, just the nature of the cars gearing and low HP. mine loved to cruise around 72mph.

1991 ea82 Alternator upgrade to 2002 EJ25
Subasaurus replied to Silas Cruse's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Correct. to my observation and opinions, having own both kinds, the one with the A/C in the center and the alternator on the outside closest to the battery looked like it was Subaru Factory done, while the one with the alternator in the center and the A/C closest to the battery was professionally rigged on, probably done at the dealer at a customers request to have this vehicle but originally didn't have A/C. i honestly prefer the alternator in the center since any generic A/C compressor fits it, and they are really simple and on their own wiring diagram, although tightening the belt is just sticking a pole between the 2 components and eyeballing it. heres the 2 examples below 1989 GL 1994 Loyale -
1991 ea82 Alternator upgrade to 2002 EJ25
Subasaurus replied to Silas Cruse's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i've heard of this upgrade before, but always wondered why its such an easy bolt in upgrade, is the reason because of the remnants of Datsun and Subaru sharing parts with one another in the 70's? and continued to carry some same parts though the late 80's? or just a huge coincidence? -
Anyone interested in EA-82 Parts?
Subasaurus replied to Subasaurus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im sure many, many, many other people are standing by for me to say im parting this EA 81 vehicle, but the vehicle is too perfect for me to part out, the mileage is only at 061,459 after 35 years. it would be a crime to part it out, unless someone purchases it from me, then i woun't care what they do with it. but i just woun't get enough out of it parting it out than selling the whole vehicle. -
that seriously blows my mind for someone to still have a loyale new from the dealership, and to stick with the same vehicle for 24 years non-stop, im already bored of my impreza i've had for 6 years now, but i still hang on to it since it was my first car, and i've heard many others regret selling their first car. must feel interesting remembering the car new from the dealership, driving it off from the dealership wondering if its a good car and if it would last you a long time, and now you're overhere thinking about putting antique classic plates on it.

theres alot of people on this forum, especially in this old gen section, just give it a few hours and you'll have alot of responses. the community will figure it out.
-
well i think now you're using the actual forum bandwidth, but its fine, we can all see it, oh and i have no idea what that is, having own 4 EA82's, i have no idea what that is, guess it was something i never bothered removing.

i thought one wasn't allowed to post links to a photo to photobucket unless you pay $100, and to post actual photos was $400. but theres other image hosting websites for free anyways, for forums the link you're looking for should look something like this blah (dot) blah but that second IMG should have a "(bracket) /IMG (bracket)" but can't put it or it would try to make a picture out of nothing.

Weird squeal when disengaging clutch under load
Subasaurus replied to Nickoli's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
keep in mind, after loosening it and tightening up the alternator lock bolt so many times, it actually began to strip on me and i had to chase that same squeal that you're probably experiencing, what i did was drilled the onboard threads on the alternator, then ran a grade 9 bolt through with a nut on the other end and tightened it up with 2 new washers inbetween since the bolt was pretty close to squeezing through the slit. i don't know if you have to go grade 9 on it, but i used a random bolt i had and the heat and cold sheered it off in the middle of driving and demolished my Green Stripe Gates Belt when it fell off into the fan. but before drilling the alternator threads, try finding a nut that threads behind it and work with it, tighten it up pretty good after tightening the alternator belt with a breakerbar/cheaterbar that i used to just stick between the A/C compressor and Alternator. its really awkward to do by yourself, but it is possible, you just have to grow another hand out of your body. also try buying a Gates Green Stripe Belt, and make sure it is Green Stripe! you will probably have to order it and wait a few days for it. the reason for the green stripe is because it has belt dressing already on it, but for some reason, this one lasts wayyy longer and its of better stuff than a can of belt dressing you just slap on a belt, its alittle pricey at $18-24 dollars for one belt, but that fixed my squealing issue when accelerating hard. -
reasons why mine are put to rest? -Lack of parts so you sacrifice one to keep the other one going, then scrap the car to get money out of the thing. -Get a hold of something more unique (older) so you loose interest in a newer (90's) Subaru thats not worth more than $600 bucks so you part it out and scrap it because it ain't worth the cost of maintaining the vehicle plus insurance on the vehicle. you spend more on the vehicle than the vehicle is worth very quickly. ($50 a month, You'll exceed the cost of the car in a year) -Someone Crashes into you, so the Subie has to be put to rest I've never had a Subaru just completely poop out on me, and then its ready for the scrap yard immediately. usually its for other more complicated reasons. good little engines ill tell you though. i believe the early 90's Engines will run for about 425K if no Collision happens, if you don't care about the value of the vehicle, if the oil changes are done somewhat normally, you keep an eye on Leaks and refill as necessary, and you own a $30 tool box from walmart.

EA 71 Vacuum Advance
Subasaurus replied to Subasaurus's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
when you know that the prices are Super Inflated because Sadly they are rare, and non are available across the United States online or in stores, unless you buy a whole Distributor which happens to be half the price of just the Vacuum advance by itself compared to the australia item, or the same price from israel, either way I guess im buying a whole Distributor for $55 from Georgia so im not stuck with the 1+month wait for international mail. so dumb. Posted Links if anyone was interested, most inexpensive i was able to find. -$55 Distributor Electronic Pickup Coil Type (shipping included) https://www.ebay.com/itm/ARROW-55-5247-31-634-Reman-Distributor-w-DCAP-ROTOR-MODULE-ELEC-IGN-77-79-SUBARU/291505986539?fits=Year%3A1979%7CMake%3ASubaru&hash=item43df1c5beb:g:1HAAAOSwPcVVlV36&vxp=mtr -$99 Distributor Points Type (shipping included) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Distributor-Point-Type-Cardone-31-631-Reman-fits-73-75-Subaru-GL-1-4L-H4/372199637432?fits=Year%3A1975%7CMake%3ASubaru&epid=75982557&hash=item56a8d3c1b8:g:-b0AAOSw0exZ92B4&vxp=mtr -$89 after shipping from Australia https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hitachi-Vacuum-Advance-Unit-Nissan-Datsun-Subaru-Honda/331145629218?hash=item4d19d14e22:m:mJ6fQqe-jRk9vmdJDn9zAKw&vxp=mtr -$52 after shipping from israel https://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-1976-84-1-4cc-1-6cc-DISTRIBUTOR-VACUUM-CONTROLLER-ADVANCE-AY-491607001/312023806775?hash=item48a6117337:g:jzQAAMXQAF5Rg9Hl&vxp=mtr -
-1980 Brat i figured out why my accelerator pedal has a dead spot somewhere in the middle when accelerating quickly, my 38 year old vacuum advance isn't working, which doesn't suprise me, hose disconnected or connected, or putting a vacuum through it with my mouth should accelerate the idle, instead it feels like something is torn inside that's just letting air get through, and does absolutely nothing. soooo, anyone know where to get just the vacuum advance for one of these things without buying a whole distributor? by buying a whole distributor i get a vacuum advance but with only one port, which is fine, ill just plug the other hose which is the retard one, but I seem to not be able to find just the vacuum advance anywhere single or double ported vacuum advance. any substitutes from an old Ford or something that will work and has an outside mount like this one with some modification that someone has done in the past? what do you guys run as a timing advance on these old Subaru's? the original electronic ignition control module is still working on this vehicle suprisingly, but can easily swap out to points also if needed for some type of conversion related to the timing advance that you guys have done? dunno. vehicle runs great but that lag does get annoying and makes it seem like the brat has 10 transmission gears to go through.

i've always wondered why this model SAAB looks alot like a WRX Wagon whenever i see it on the road. you're not the only one that lost an old Subie, old Lady plowed and demolished my poor 1990 Loyale in october 2015, puked on the side of the road a fewminutes later from the disgust of seeing my vehicle crushed like that after hours and hours and years of owning it, was in excellent condition, oh well, you just learn to move on.

Abandoned Subaru Dealership
Subasaurus replied to Rust's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i don't think i've ever seen an impreza with those 6 slotted hubcaps before, this is really cool! thank you for posting this! im also confused about the impreza bumpers, i thought they started painting the black trim along the rear and front the same color as the car starting somewhere in the end of 1994, but didn't they stop production of the XT in 1991? guess they did different things in other parts of the world? -
i should of, but i didn't unfortunately, its okay though, and that ECM should be fine if it got alittle wet, its enclosed anyways, rice would definetly guarantee it though. hope you get the wagon going and not let it die like the rest in my backyard, 2.2 is definetly an awesome alternative. enjoy the 79 wagon! i still miss it, take care of her!

also i currently have a EA-81 1983 Subaru GL Hatchback that only needs a throttle cable and a carburetor i have not installed a carb or bought one for it yet, so im currently going to sell it as it is right now for $1,200 here. once i fix the carb and throttle cable (which you can see the new throttle cable box in one of the pictures) here in a few weeks im gonna post it on craigslist at a price of $2,400. let me know if this interests you. few pictures below. NO RUST in this vehicle at all, not even in corners where pinchwelds are from factory which is stunning to me, i drove this vehicle on the highway a year ago when i bought it but it had carb issues, it currently has a Holly Carb, have not messed with it since. around 60,000 original miles on the vehicle, don't remember the exact number at the moment.
