    on my gfs civic her brakes were spongy , we simply replaced the brake pads (all 4) and it dissapeared, ive always had alittle sponge on my 89 GL wagon, took me a while and testing if the brakes were rubbing but i got it perfectly, when i step on the brake it only goes down to exactly where the accelerator pedal rests, theres a nut behind the brake pedal to calibrate, it might help some, just DO NOT OVER DO IT!!!!!! it will overheat your brakes and your braking will suck and you will have glazed brakes, the way i did it was i pulled and pushed my car while calibrating it to make sure it was free but as close as possible, drove it around for 30min, and felt if the front wheels were any hotter than the rear, if you can't hold your hand on the wheel for more than 2seconds, you over did it, also i doub't squishy brakes would ever come back, i had an issue where my brakes wouldn't release when i was ln a hill couple days ago, turns out my hill holder failed on me. so its now disconnected. check your rear brake adjuster also

    he doesn't want to know the history of the car, he just wants to know what the numbers mean as in a vin 4 or 5, JF1 meaning J=Japan assembled.. sadly i don't know much about that, but i understand what information he needs.

    R12 to R134a valve conversion is what your looking for at the autoparts store if it has not been converted yet, its about $12 at autozone 2years ago when i got mine. R12 is a bigger molecule (less leaks) and cools the vehicle better than R134a, you can still get it in Mexico just fine, infact, most of the world still uses R12, were just trying to set the example to the rest of the world that its bad for the ozone. but in the USA you need a special license, they stopped using them in cars in the mid to late 90's.

    LMAO!! i was like whoaa! i gotta find out more about this but when i read your post i was like oh... nvm lol, but that would be convenient to have a left gas tank door, but for some reason it looks weird, guess im not used to it.

    all of my 1993 impreza's relays say Denso on them, so the chance of that being a relay is pretty high, but i dont know much about EA81 models, hope you find your answer! sorry.

    ohhh... those automatic fog light covers are veryyyy cool! thats very interesting, also howcome the XT foglight switch wount fit in correctly, only upside down, i see in the photos the dot is suppose to go up but no matter how hard i try, mine goes in flawlessly upsidedown but not the correct way lol, thanks for all your replies, im learning alot of these details no one cares about!

    so its not a foglight switch? so what about my foglight switch that "comes from an XT"?? was it never suppose to be on my 89 GL wagon? and thats pretty cool, to have a choke.. so i guess theres nothing else that can go there except downgrading?

    thanks gloyale, didnt know that the IPC or EGR valve was strictly for fuel injected, then again would make sence, sorry!

    here is a picture of the EA82 idler valve, im not sure if the EA81 is the same, im just trying to help and doing my best, sorry if im compleately incorrect and correcting me would allow me to learn more about these EA81s. thanks.

    check for vacuum leaks, also check the ipc valve, well i think thats what its called, anyways its the idler valve, you didn't specify if its always high revs even when its already warmed up or stops when its warmed up, im going to assume it still does it when its warmed up, theres a small gasket on that idler valve (note the idler screw and idler valve are compleately different things) did you replace all the seals and small gaskets on everything you took apart?

    i dont know much about justy's and i see that the chances of you getting a response is slim.. have you tried looking up if a leone's seats or early impreza or legacy fits them? if you can't find nothing online, go to the junkyard and experiment alittle, see if you can move the cushion only, or if the brackets are the same, or how much modification you have to do to the bracket, anyways if you do see that a leone's seats fit or GL or DL or watever you want to call it, try looking for GL-10 seats, i love them, there almost like a sofa in the vehicle (there pinkish color) if they even fit in the tiny justy

    you think you have it difficult up north? try searching for EA71 parts in south Texas where not even 90's subarus exist, yeah, but its worth it, get lots of attention, just hope nothing major breaks on it..

    thats one detail i could never figure out! it said Ford or FoMoCo, can't remeber now but its on the 3way check valve and i was like thats strange.. guess a check valve is a check valve but also found it on my donor parts car and i was really confused then.. thanks Gloyale!! you really know your stuff..

    you wouldn't have a picture of the switch though? ive searched on google and even non related things like different dashes or steering wheels to see if i could get a view of the switch and they all have that cover on the left of the steering wheel.

    is that on the original engine? ive always wondered how far these EA82 engines can go but rust stops them before the engine stops..

    was your loyale manufactured before 12/90? because my 1990 loyale says 8/89 and even has the 2tone color on the body but it is a loyale, which i find interesting because i dont think there were any loyales with the 2 color paint, also how did you bend the skid plate? ill make sure to not try that lol

    1. did someone before me put that switch there? did subaru ever put that there themselves on some models? and would you have a picture of how this switch looks like? 3. thank you for letting me know where the switch is, i will replace that soon now that i know where its at. 4. i double stacked my skid plate, but could not stack the back piece of the skid plate, would stacking it make it any stronger or is this just additional weight? does it need the double skid? have you ever heard of one bending? they look pretty strong and im not sure if what ive done was completely useless.

    funny that the tire is probably of low quality, how to make it even more unsafe to use? stick it in the engine bay! so it can experience hot and cold on a daily basis, but lets say that the rim is of good quality, (IM NOT SAYING IT IS, SO DONT TRY IT!!) would putting a good quality tire make it a normal wheel like the rest?

    thats one thing i still need to do to my vehicle, a switch to control the A/C, sometimes i want air only through (vent) or the front only, but thats not possible without having the ac working, well i need that extra 10hp sometimes, and having the A/C blowing at my feet would be nice too but thats not possible unless you add a switch, guess thats my next project!

    im in no need to know what these are or in need to fix them but ive been wondering what they are or what goes there, any help is greatly appreciated! just theres nothing about these on the changes on EA82 topic, and if there is, theres no picture for me to know it was or what it used to be. all of these are from a GL wagon, except for the cruise control that comes from a Loyale. ive attached 6 pictures, 1. first one is inbetween the foglight and steering wheel, no its not some future add on of ABS before subaru pulled the plug on the EA82 when the EJ series was introduced, i know it says ABS on the back of it but it also says ABS on the front grill, so its not ABS and ive looked at numerous GL-10's and non have the option or whatever goes there. 2. the next one is those clips that hold the headliner up, some wagons have an extra clip on the side of the middle back one, some dont, i broke mine when i was trying to fish the wire for the hatch light i added. 3. the next one is next to the tail lights, is this the switch to tell me if the hatch is open or closed? there on both sides, mine has never told me that the hatch is open in the dash lights, until i found a parts car and that one does. 4. the next one is of the cover that goes between the pedals and the rat nest of wires, some vehicles have them and some dont, did they all come with it and just not bother putting them back on? also the front skid plate, did they all come with it but on the first oil change they never put it back on? 5. next one is cruise control, why does the Loyale's cruise control look so ancient? i thought they came with the button that goes below the defroster on the left of the dash? 6. last one is of the seat belts, drivers side has this thing that wraps around to stop the seat belt while the other has a button, im guessing its been changed before, but whats the difference? or why? thanks for your opinions and help, just things ive been wondering about. (some images may be upside down, sorry about that, im on my phone)

    those 2 bottom corner bolts are ussually broken if its that bad, i just changed mine 5days ago or so, theres 4 bolts, inside the tool compartment on the left and right, there covered by rubber plugs, if it wount come out, do not stick a prybar or tube inbetween the car and bumper, you'll bend the metal on the car, just figure it out i guess, it would be different for everyone depending on the damage that the bumper has. also dont bother just changing the cover/plastic, the dent under the plastic will still be there and the cover will just have a weak spot, but if you insist, theres 7 screws under the bumper that have to come off, and another 7 between the bumper and vehicle so you have to remove the bumper to get to those screws, and depending on the year of your vehicle or bumper type, the number of clips on the top of the bumper, some dont have any, some have 3snap on clips, just change the whole bumper. you have to remove the bumper anyways to change the cover.

    i keep comming back to this thread every day, can OP (That One Kid) please return... or is it going to be another year till he does? i really want to know what that green switch does... :/
