ea81 mod' heads Q's
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that works out to be 20'thou i know the flyboys take 40'thou and i fig'er aviation folks being the safety minded ppl that they are(no noise from up the front generaly means its going to hurt:lol: ) that they would leave a very heathy amount in reserve -
i picked up a disassembled ea81 motor yesterday (thanks Ross) and have made myself popular with 'she who must be obeyed' by laying it all out on the lounge room floor for inspection:grin: . how much can be machined off the heads before you get either valve interferance or compromised strength in the head,my aim is the highest CR i can get the inlet manifold fitting isn't an issue as i intend on fabricating one with seperate water gallerys and thermostat housing....cold inlet=more power i've got inlet with the motor so i'll use it to take templates off for bolt holes and inlet port& coolent gallerys how much bigger are the big valves in the hydrolic lifter heads and could the bigger size valves be put into a solid lifter head....would ea82 valves fit? does anyone have any numbers for their torque cam i.e lift/duration etc also do the solid lifter motors run steel or aluminium pushrods cheers for any help

valve train swap?
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to LPGsuperchargedBrumby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they do have bigger valves but its a case of go with what you got, as im planning on getting the small valve heads planned .040 i dont want to plane my hydro heads as they are in mint condition.the other reason i don't wanna mess with my hydro heads is that if the guys that do the manditary 6 monthly warrent of fitness here spot something dodgy with the planned heads i.e the fact that someone has planned them i'll have to put my current big valve heads back in if they play the letter of the law thing -
we had subaru powered sandrail/offroader come into our workshop to have the rollcage welded and it had spline type driveshafts to allow it to have an outrageous amount of suspension travel on the rear end....come to think of it they looked suspisiously like agricultural PTO drives......i should have taken more notice but it was first thing monday morning what can i say.....

guy i know used to run 225/50 yokohamas on a standard brumby/brat back in the mid 80s on a set of 15x7" rims altered to bolt on the subaru hub, don't know about what backspacing he was running. he did remember that the lowprofile rubber was rudely expensive at the time.....what he was payed for one tyre for the brumby would put rubber under all 4 corners of the landcruiser he also had at the time

is there anything to stop the rockers and things from a hydrolic lifter head being swapped to to a solid lifter head if the head is going back on the motor the hydrolic lifter head came off?

Pulling pistons
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to cracked head's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i found the easyst way to get pistons out without spliting the cases is to take the pin out then hook a compressor on to the oil filler pipe after blocking off both head breather lines, i used a spraygun type pressure regulator and just slowly turned up the pressure the piston started to move @7psi or so and popped out neat as -
get hold of a milspec steel jerrycan i've got 3 that i used to use for running long distance and they had a hard life, never had a problem with them even after the bounced out of the tray of my brumby at 50mph,paint them a bright colour it makes them easyer to find

Somebody broke into my RX
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
bad luck dude, the bit that annoys me most about fleabags like your talkin about is how they seem to get away with it without the legal system doin what its there for, punishing the guilty and protecting everyone else. my brothers race bike got pinched a couple'a years back, cops weren't much help, stolen bikes weren't real high on their 'to do list' so we just got all our combined group of friends to keep their ears open for any info.3 months later we found out who had stolen it ,had a look where he lived and saw a rear wheel rim off bro's honda (easy to id,custom paint job & colour) sitting beside ths guys prized V8 a phone call saying some of the local gang were coming over to 'say hi' had this weener jumping into his car to get outa dodge does anyone remember the chained up cop car in american graffiti........... hillbilly justice -
Mercedes Eaton M-62 supercharger
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to sheppie62's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
eaton m-62 would probibly be a touch on the large side for a 1.8l, still if you under drive it it would work, as for the clutch you need a vacuum or electricly operated bypass valve like the toyota blowers have installed. custom crank pully would be needed i would think as as that size blower would be getting to the size that a toothed belt is needed rather than a V-belt just my hungover opinion -
ea81 maximum compression?
LPGsuperchargedBrumby posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
what would be the maximum compression that an ea81 is able to run, detonation problems aside (propane/lpg runs quiet happy @ 16:1) i have to rebuild my motor so turbo pistons are on my 'to do' list what i likely to be my weak link ie bottom end, head gasket........? cheers for any help -
Most embarassing place you've been stuck in your Ru?
LPGsuperchargedBrumby replied to RavenTBK's topic in Off Road
worst i ever got stuck was in a ditch that drove into because i wasn't watching where i was going, hard part part was getting out of 4x cos i'd got a gearbox from the dismantlers to replace my'n (4spd) while i rebuilt it, only problem was my brumby/brat is 3.7 diffs this one was 3.9 diff and pretty sick as well so i had to rock it back and forth to get it back into 2wd,on the bright side that box did teach me how to double clutch real well as all the syncro's were toast -
have a look at the part numbers on clutchnet,if im reading it right they should cross over quiet nicely which is good cos the one i have in at the moment does the slipping thing whenever i find a nice tight, windy gravel road, a 'rex clutch has just been added to my list of 'i needs'

my ea81 motor has gone BOOM:banghead: ,i have a ea82t motor and all the bolt-on stuff that goes with it(manifolds, injecters etc etc) to replace it. what i would like to know is: apart from shapeing the crossmember the motor sits on so the exhaust clears it it there anything else that need to be done so the block will fit in place of the old ea81? what clutch parts do i need to mix'n'match (4 speed manual 'box) will the dizzy run ok without the ecu, as all the gear for LPG is already in the ute and i would prefer to stay with it its a 1992<yes its 4 real< gen 2 type thanks for any help
