Hello, I recently started having this strange problem. When I turn the ignition off on my 95 Impreza L, AWD the taillights and one of the parking lights stay on. They only go off if I take the fuse out in the fuse box. My brake lights work fine but at night when I need my tail lights I have to put the fuse back in. Would this have something to do with teh communication between the ignition and the lights when you turn the ignition the lights go off also. If anyone has had this similar problem I would greatly appreciate any insight into this problem. Beau

Solid Lifters are usually put in performance engines. They are exactly what they sound like. You can really tell when an engine has these by the valve "tick" that you can always hear. Solid lifters can handle more stress than non solid lifters. I don't know to much about them but I thought I'd give you my .02.

My 1995 Impreza does the same thing. When I go over small holes or something it sounds like something is loose and only in the back. I was thinking it might be the strut bearing. It's located on top of the strut and not that hard to fix. My friend just replaced them on his 89 Jetta and it made that same noise and it doesn't anymore after the fix. If you don't want a stiff sporty ride just go to NAPA or similar parts stores and see what they have for strut/shock deals. They are usually pretty inexpensive. If you can put them on yourself which isn't to hard you can save yourself some money and it is not all that hard. Make you you get a 4 wheel alignment after your done!

Any recommendations as far as a place to purchase an engine? I know on flashoptions.com you can get the 96 turbo Impreza engine (EJ20G ?) for $1500.00. This seems reasonable. After looking around this site $3000.00 +/- can get an engine and also have it installed. I'm in no hurry since my EJ18 has only 73000 on the odometer (1995). What do you think. I would love to do this to this car because it sounds like it can be insanely quick with this motor (from what I have heard) I would also pay the right person to put it in for me.

The jumping on the bumper works if your trying to diagnose a simple strut. When you bounce on the bumper and let go it should only bounce momentarily then stop. If not your struts are bad. A good way to tell also is in cornering. How bad does it lean to one side in a tight corner? What about when you hit those little waves in the road that seem to be everywhere. Shouldn't feel like a boat or they are bad. just my .02 on struts. I've replaced a few.

The cooling fans always come on at a certain temp. Usually at 210 or somewhere around there. Your saying they come on at the normal time and your car is putting out good heat and it doesn't overheat. I'd just leave it and it should be fine. If your still concerned just take it to an import mechanic and have them test the relays on your fans.

I have a 95 Subaru Impreza L. It has a replacement hood (I think) because of hail damage. Anyway the repalcement hood says it has a 1.8. It looks very similar to my 2.2 in my old legacy. I've never seen a 1.8 before. What are the differences besides displacement and what should I be looking for. Don't want to buy 1.8 parts for a 2.2! Thanks

I traded my 95 Legacy Wagon for a 95 Subaru Impreza L. The Impreza has 71,000 miles which is half of what my legacy has. Anything I should be looking for? It has the reliable 2.2 litre in it and a 5 speed. I paid top book price for it which is not to cool but I've always wanted one of these. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies this really helps. I have learned a lot about subarus just by this web site. I'm taking my subaru to the mechanic tomorrow and I am going to have him fix the leak regardless of where it is at. The motor that was put in my car had 105,000 miles on it and the car had 151,000 on it. So it's a little less according to the guy who put it in. I'm not sure what it came out of but I don't really care as long as it runs! I'm having the timing belt replaced because I've owned a few Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas and that is the first thing I usually do when I buy and OHC vehicle with no maintanence history. Thanks for all the help.

I thought it was possible that it was wrecked before but the title is clean. Probably because the guy that wrecked it has his own shop. I kind of knew that when I bought it but for $1980 the price is right. It drives down the road straight and smooth and everything works. Even the crazy electric window. Can't lock anybody in my car! Thanks for all your help.
