Sorry, but there is no glamour here. As an engineer (electrical), when I needed a new car I researched what was available. As far as I could see, the Legacy was the best price/value choice. As I generally used public transportation, the car was used by wife and children. She took it to the dealer as required for all periodic maintenance. When the dealer abandoned us, I took over maintenance.
I tried various mechanics, but found they were reckless and destructive (e.g. cross-threaded sparkplug #1). There was a major bias against non-american cars. The car deserved better. So I have shepherded her into old age. The more I work on her, the more I tend to elevate her engineers into the status of saints (or whatever the japanese equivalent is).
