  1. You may have a crack on the hose behind the o-ring. That happened to me on an AC hose. If that's the problem, then you'll need a new hose or maybe the end could be changed.
  2. From what I can see, it looks like either an EA71 or EA81 4 cylinder.
  3. The splines in one of my front hubs was stripped out when that happened to me a few years ago.
  4. Is your aternator/charging system working? I had an earlier Brat that died when the alternator died. When cranking, the fuel pump worked, but once it started the pump quit. Replaced the alternator and all was good again. Sounds like that may be your problem.
  5. I agree with silverhelme. I'm thinking the grinding noise you heard with the old clutch was the axle slipping in one of the front hubs. Maybe you didn't need a new clutch after all. Try putting it in gear ( two wheel drive ) and with the clutch pedal out, have someone look at the front axles to see if one of them is just spinning in the hub. If it's not moving anyway, you could just get out and check for yourself if you don't have someone to check for you.
  6. Thanks for the response. Good to know. That is my 'plan B', IF I ever get around to making the swap.
  7. Does anyone know the approximate HP difference between a '95 fuel injected EJ22 and one that has been converted to a Weber and an Escort distributor?
  8. I switched to a Weber and haven't regretted it for a second. Lots of other people have done that too. The only vacuum hoses that I use that I can think of are 1 to the AC control, 1 off of the carb to the distributor vacuum advance , and 1 to the power brake booster. All the others are capped off. I still use the PCV valve but I think some people cap that off too. Hope this helps.
  9. These stabilizer bushings are available at Rock Auto, Oreilly's, and probably other places as well.
  10. The high side is the line that goes to the condenser in front of the radiator. The low is the one that comes from inside the car. The low side hose is bigger than the high side hose. The sight glass eye is on the high side.
  11. In the 'Shop Talk' section, search for 'Adjust hydraulic valve lifter'. There's a write up on how to adjust them.
  12. Sounds like you need to clean your battery posts. Also, I agree with DaveT, always disconnect the negative first and if both are disconnected, connect the negative last. I learned that lesson by experience.
  13. A little green o-ring? My first thought was a castrating band used on goats, sheep, etc. (Look it up on youtube) Although that one looks like it's been laying out in the sun and deteriorating for some time.
  14. Easy. Just look in the same forum where you posted your question. On Sept. 25, Eric Anderson has a link to a 1982 Subaru FSM. He spent a lot of time scanning it and posted it for all to share. I, for one, really appreciate the trouble he went to to do that for us. . .
  15. I don't have any of the parts that you need but I have some info that you may not be aware of. I used the door handle from a '80 sedan on the tailgate of my '81 Brat. Perfect fit. I'm telling you this so you won't be tempted to pay a premium price for a handle thinking that only a tailgate handle will work on a tailgate.
  16. I've had a problem like that before and the battery posts just needed cleaning. Simple, easy fix. Worth a try.
  17. My first thought is your intake manifold gasket(s) is leaking water into the intake part of the manifold.
  18. Are you sure there's not a condenser on that wire?
  19. Here is a page from a Haynes repair manual For Subarus 1980 thru 1989
  20. When you had the engine apart changing the head gaskets, etc., did you stuff a rag or something in the intake ports to keep unwanted things out while the engine was apart? If so, maybe you forgot to take it out of that head when you put it all back together. I've heard of that happening to other people before, but never to me (I wish).
  21. Here is a picture of my AC belt arrangement. It's on a 1982 Brat DL. I would assume yours to be the same.
  22. Thank you john in KY for those measurements. I agree with jono, not enough difference to get too excited about.
  23. Thanks to all for your responses. Does anyone know the actual measurements of the small and large valves?
