  1. Yep, it was just a ignition coil fuse. I was tired, it was dark and snowing. I expected the scary expensive stuff. So relieved I was wrong. I paniced. Thank you for the kind advice and direction. I learned a long time ago to keep it simple and work your way in. I guess sometimes I need a reminder. Thanks again.
  2. 84 gl wagon 4WD, 4 speed, hitachi carb. I was driving home from work tonight all was running great and has been for awhile, then suddenly engine just shut off. No warning, just off. It was dark out so I noticed immediately the clock was off. All other dash lights worked as usual but I noticed the clock because it always had worked. I thought since the engine and clock died at the same time this may be a tell tale answer, I just don't know what it is. I replaced the disty about 7,000 miles ago along with new coil, plugs, wires, cap/ rotor, alt. and fuel filters. When the car died it shook for a split second before it just seemed unplugged. I didn't have a chance to check anything yet, the car is on the side of a dark country road and it's snowing pretty good. I got a ride luckily, be heading back to it tomorrow to see if I have spark and that sort of thing. I just was wondering if the simotnious clock/engine death may trigger any suggestions. Thanks.
  3. Yep, wrong spline count. The box and part number said it should've been 23. I took it off and it was 25. Guess that will do it every time. Lessons learned. Thank you for your help and patience. Don't trust Oriellys computer to be correct. So glad it wasn't my tranny. You guys rock.
  4. Oh. Ok. Well that would make sense and be great if that's the case. I'll take it off to take a close look at it tomorrow. Thank you. I thought it would be a perfect fit.. Special ordered it from Oriellys. I guess I should always double check parts and not always trust things are as they should be. I appreciate your help. Been reading this website for years and always been impressed with the wealth of knowledge and support given. This is my first post. I'll get back to you on the status. Thanks again.
  5. Yes, but even if the spline count were different the axel would turn the wheel because the roll pin would turn with the stub though may have slop and vibration. I can't get my front wheels to engage. I jacked up the front wheels off the ground and hand turned the passenger wheel to see if driver side would turn and it didn't. I felt some resistance but then felt like teeth slipping over each other. Just puzzled here. Thank you for your input. I've had stripped hubs before, it sounds and feels like that but not that because the axels won't turn on the engines power, just rumble.
  6. Spline count the same. Snug fit and roll pin in place. Every thing from stub to axel nut is solid. When I look at the stub it looks loose. Whole axel and stub vibrates in nuteral. Rumble sound in all gears including nuteral. Sounds like splines slipping in transmission. Do tranny stubs loosen? I did have to beat on the wheel hub to get the wheel bearings onto the new axel. I had the stub end already attached. Could I have broken something in the stub area?
  7. I need help. I replaced front driver side axel last night. Test drove after. Worked fine for 50 feet then let go. Makes rumbling sound and wouldn't move. Put in 4wd and drove it back. Not a stripped hub. Axels not turning when stoped. When in nuteral driver side axel shakes and makes rumble sound from stub area. I'm worried the tranny is toast. Any suggestions? It's a 84 gl 4wd 4 speed dual range. Thanks.
