  1. I got the following message from Subaru to reprogram the ecm. It claimed that performance would not be affected. However the low end torque seems lower now ('05 Legacy 2.5i). Anyone else notice this?...... During a quality review, we discovered that under certain unique driving patterns, such as repeated acceleration and deceleration and/or continuous uphill driving at higher speeds (about 75 mph), your vehicle's catalytic converters may develop high internal temperatures that exceed design parameters. If left uncorrected, this condition may eventually degrade the efficiency of the catalytic converters. (The Check Engine light will illuminate to alert you if the catalytic converter efficiency has degraded beyond an acceptable level and if your vehicle may be releasing air pollutants that exceed Federal emission standards.) To prevent this condition, Subaru has developed a modification to the Engine Control Module software logic that will improve management of temperatures within the catalytic converters. This software change will not adversely affect the performance of your vehicle.
  2. Have any of you experts out there seen HG issues with the 2003 Forester? The one I'm looking at has just under 100k miles with an auto trans. Thanks.
  3. I sold my '90 Legacy for $399 on craigs list due to the same thing. Worst mistake I ever made! Fix it.
  4. Oh yeah! I look at the B9 in a different way now. If only it was not so ugly.
  5. Last question..Performance wise, how does it stack up to a Legacy GT. I was not impressed with the bang for the buck when I compared my cousin's 08 GT to my 05 base Legacy. It was quicker, but not enough to justify the huge price difference. My old 1990 could almost keep up with it. (Weight I suppose).
  6. Great link! Thanks. Why the heck did Subaru only offer it as an Automatic?
  7. I'm in the research phase for a used SVX. What are the big items to look out for? HG, Wheel Bearings, Diff, parts, etc. The search function did not yeild much. Thanks
  8. "Cheezy glitz defines the rock-hard polymers that mimic textured stainless steel on the gaudy and protruding tall center stack (an annoyingly awful new Subaru family trait)....."
  9. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/review-2010-subaru-outback/ Funny & True
  10. It's the law of the car biz. A model must grow in size over the years. Subaru is different no more. It only took 20 years in the case of the Legacy. However, I don't think it will last another 20. Too bad.
  11. I would agree with the live for today outlook when it comes to people but not things. Having both financed and paid cash...nothing feels worse than monthly payments. Mortgage/Student loans excluded (Good vs. Bad debt). He will feel great when he actually holds the title for his first Subaru. Just my experience.
  12. "I dont see any SVX in the back of the new Legacy" Put the SVX spoiler on it and narrow the tail lights. It's squared off like the SVX. I give the new Legacy 7 out of 10 stars. It's bloated. However, it looks better than the 2000-2004s. I wish it could recapture some of the 1990 edge. Given the choice between a real Toyota and a fake one, people will choose the real one.
  13. You will be upside-down on that car for 3.5 years at least. There's no such thing as 0%. The price you will pay for that car will be at least 3k more than someone paying cash. That's how they can claim 0%. Plus, if you wait to buy it used in 3 years/36,000 miles the cost will be 10k less. The sales folks only care about a deal TODAY! Not your repo in 8 months.
  14. No rush. You will be 36 in the blink of an eye. Don't burden yourself with new car payments and insurance. Invest that money now and you can buy it a few times over (cash) in your 30's. Monthly payments are the death of American prosperity.
  15. Me too. It felt wrong being on the outside looking in. I kept the Honda Odyssey though.
  16. It warmed up the other day so I tried the WD-40 again. It finally worked...but on closer inspection the pops a dent did not work very well. I'll try it again.
  17. It's been pretty cold in Seattle the last few days. I've made some progress. I'll go find the goo be gone stuff & let you all know. Thanks. Argh!
  18. Some scum bag dented my rear door with a shopping cart at home depot. I used that pop's a dent and it sort of worked. However, I'm having a difficult time getting all of the glue off the door. Any ideas? Thanks.
