  1. Took the PandaWagon on a cruise on the highway to find any quirks that need attention before the trip to WCSS. Filled up just before going home - half the tank hot rod city driving and the other half cruising the highway: 24 mpg. We'll see how the car does going to WCSS. Noticed the vacuum gauge sits at ~12 in/Hg at 75mph - the same as my other wagon with the SPFI EA82 at 55mph.
  2. Installed my new axles, I can daily drive the PandaWagon again. But now, I must watch my speed. The time it takes to get through 3rd gear in the PandaWagon, I get through 1st in Bub (my blue EA82 powered wagon)
  3. Unfortunately no, the olders Soobs are 4 Lug - an unusual 4 lug, at that. However, the distance between the lugs is the same as the toyota truck 6 lug wheels. It's just a mater of re-drilling the hubs.
  4. Yes, you may tap into that for the HVAC.
  5. Yeah, I could see why you were having some issues with shifting. Changed the oil and fixed the exposed wire for the CTS in the blue wagon - no more TOD and no more erratic CEL. Installed the missing O-Ring on the power steering resivoir and fixed coolant leak on the Panda Wagon.
  6. Nope, didn't see it. Goes to show you how observant I am. Are you going to run true duels out each side? That would sound interesting.
  7. This should be interesting.... I see the driver's cam carrier is missing something, no? And just to stay on topic, what I did to my Suby lately: Drove it, of course! To check out the Chiricahua Mountain fire: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44982071@N04/sets/72157626823266515/with/5826367825/ ***Cough*** Smokey!
  8. When I drove my brother's XT6, the wiper, out of the blue, started working - made 3 passes and returned home. I was nowhere near the wiper switch or the mister switch.
  9. Or wait till it warms up, shut it down let it cool, start it up again. Or just fight with it to get it above 3K and it will be fine for the rest of the drive.
  10. Don't part it out, let that wedge play in the snow!
  11. That's because Subarus are highly jealous of one another. If I work on one, by the end of the week, I have had my nose under the hood of the other 6 with things that broke the day after working on the first one. To keep things on topic, my blue wagon got mad at me just because I test drove an RX-7 for my brother. It's gone back to bogging on initial tip-in when cold. Should have known when I started it up this morning - it dropped to warm idle immediately instead of running at 2K for the first five minutes of idling.
  12. That would explain why the area between the bumper and the back of the car was rusting even though I live in 3-10% humidity. My pipe ended just in front the tow hook. I did that so I wouldn't crush the pipe when I was wheeling. Oops
  13. Went over Montezuma's Pass this afternoon Just about got run over by the Border Patrol and the crazy Jeeps, and the roads to and from the pass were quite rough needing 4WD to keep things stable, but a nice drive overall.
  14. Yes, I did remove the inner CV - very easy and quite messy. I did exactly what those videos showed - I'm pounding the pipe on the garage floor with the axle end in the pipe and the outer CV sitting on top. Yes, and the pipe is longer than the axle. It's so simple, why is it being so difficult? Is it because these axles are relatively new? They're what I had laying around in the garage. Dave, With the XT6 axles in the EJ knuckles, did you have to double nut the axle in order for the cotter pin to do any good? The XT6 axle sticks out a long ways on mine. Thanks
  15. Um, just how much pounding do I need to do to get that end off? So far, the only separation I am getting is the chunks of the steel pipe.
  16. I am currently running stock EJ22 y-pipe/cat to 2 1/4" pipe to 27" thrush glasspack to a magnaflow straight through muffler. It has a nice subtle rumble, with no droning while on the highway.
  17. Well, almost. The Delorean had door sealing issues. He'd dart to the shoulder periodically and to a open, slam shut maneuver. He tried to match our mileage, but alas, the V6 just cannot get the mileage of a flat four.
  18. Took the PandaWagon down the Arizona stretch of Route 66: Nine cars all together: 3 - 87 Suby Wagons, a Delorean DMC-12, a Chevy cop car, an El Camino, a Bel Air, a Mustang Mach1, and a Chevelle Malibu. It was a blast! Our Suby's suffered from minor hiccups: Barry (our sister's wagon): Sticky throttle - WD40 to the rescue PandaWagon: Parking brake failure, Gas door latch failure, and rear gate stuck closed Bub, the roof rack less wagon: belched coolant at our last stop - loose radiator hoses - tightened them up - no more leaky leaky. We were picked on for getting twice the mileage of everybody else. We were filling up every other gas stop. Barry: 26-29 mpg - EA82, weberized, Delta Torquer Cams PandaWagon: 33-34 mpg - EJ25, FT4WD 5-Speed and loaded with the most weight Bub: 35-37 mpg - SPFI EA82 Guess it pays to do no more than 65 mph on the highway, eh?
  19. Great scott! 650k? That's alot of miles! Mine has to measly 224,746 after returning home from a road trip.
  20. Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping I would not have to take the inner off, but if that is the only way to get the outer off, so be it.
  21. Thanks for the replies. After posting this, I looked at the XT6 axle shaft and it is shorter. Is there a trick to getting the ends off? I did a little searching and all I have to do is pull the outer end off the EJ and put it on the ER. However, how on earth do those ends come off? I tried smacking it with a BFH, but it just won't budge.
