Ok, this is driving me nuts. After running with the XT6 axles for about 4 weeks, the driver's side wheel bearing began wobbling. Seems the XT6 axle was not quite right for the Legacy knuckle. So, I began looking through my axle stash and found a few EJ axles laying around. Most of them were too long and I could not get the knuckle to drop back into the lower ball joint. I was about 1/4 of an inch too far out. After standing them all up, one EJ was shorter than the rest. Not as short as the XT6, but about a 1/4" shorter than the rest of the EJ axles I have laying around. That one works. I have no idea what EJ car it came from - I think it was from the 92 2WD AT legacy, but I am not quite sure. Boots are cracked, so it is going to need a replacement sooner than later. I began looking for a new axle to replace it. After my 3rd try with all three of the auto parts stores, I cannot seem to find that length of axle. According to their computers, there are two sizes: 7/8" and 15/16" - a 1/16 of an inch difference between them. Nowares near the length of the EJ axle I have. Any suggestions where this shorter EJ axle came from? At this point in time, the XT6 axle on the passenger side is holding things together, but with my driving habits, I am sure it won't last long before it does the same thing as the drivers side did. Why do I need an XT6 on the passenger side and a EJ on the drivers side? I thought Subarus used the same length axles on both sides? Here's the list of parts I used for the front: 92 2WD legacy knuckles, brakes, and struts. Early 90's impreza springs. XT6 lower control arms. 87 Single range FT4WD turbo tranny

That's interesting, you have more room side to side with the EG33 than I did when I tried to fit the EZ30R in the Panda Wagon. The wheels are a bit big for my taste, but to each his own. Your project is coming along quite nicely. -
Good lookin' legacy. I need to find me one of those and stuff my EZ30R in it. [hijack] Did you check the cams on the GL? Cam timing can cause backfires through the intake. I have a spare spfi unit if you want it. PM me if your interested. [/hijack] Now to assist in keeping the thread on topic: Took my parents Outback to the tire shop to get a leak patched and ran it though the car wash.

Yeah, it's best to remove it to get enough room to pull the dash out. The three dashboards I have pulled I ended up pulling the steering wheel out to have enough room to pull that dash out. You might want to pull the heater core and have it looked at while you're in there.

Replaced my rear speakers - water got'em. While I was in there, I cleaned up the inside of the door and lubed up the door lock and latch linkage. All put back together: Sounds much better I also installed a Dash Mat and steering wheel cover to help protect the plastic and my hands from the summer heat: Bigger pics can be seen from here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44982071@N04/sets/72157623816237384/ I was a little concerned about the light color of the Dash Mat with glare while driving in the sun, but after driving in it this evening, it wasn't bad at all.

Seems my O2 gauge has an attitude - it only wants to work when it wants to. It died Tuesday somewhere between the fabricator and the bank and it finally came back on today when I was leaving the machine shop. Been wiggling wires and checking connections and it just won't show it's ugly head. May have to pull the one out of the blue wagon and see of i's the gauge that is bad. Also readjusted the TPS - was a bit out of spec and I had an annoying hesitation right off of idle. Seems smoother now, it's still there, but much milder now. Diagnosed my clunk during shifting - rear diff mounts are shot - major wobble in those mounts. Guess it's time at 223K miles. That wheel looks nice next to the brown body of the brat. Got any more of the rest of the car?

Interseting that E85 would help pass emissions, higher alcohol content burns cleaner? Hmmmm... Anyway, here's what it looks like under the hood: I have the cone air filter on there temporarily till I can get an EJ25 air box - sillly to drive 90 miles to a junkyard just for an airbox. Need to get cooler air - we've had a few days in the 80's this past week and I definitely felt the lack of power with the hotter air. I want to get an air temp gauge just to see the difference pulling air from the fender makes.

Yeah, check the fusible links and also check the ignition switch.

Replaced the O2 sensor in the Pandawagon. Couldn't even see the slots in the sensor, it was so clogged up with carbon. Also found the wiring to the sensor was wrong - it was telling the computer it was running mad lean. Yet, I still got 22 mpg out of the tank. Good news is, the power I lost going to the taller tires has returned now that the engine is running at the proper mixture.

Cams from Delta Camshaft and open up the exhaust, that's about it on these engines. Any more, and you're getting into the cost of dropping an EJ22 into it, but that is up to you. I've ran 2" and 2 1/4" cat back exhausts - the 2" has better low end torque for cruising around town, but the 2 1/4" was better for flying down the freeway at 90 with the throttle wide open. Ahh the sound of the EA82 at WOT - beautiful. I had the torquer cams from Delta in my old wagon - good upgrade.

Yes, the bumpers were painted the same as the trim line. It's modeled after Takumi's Trueno from the Anime TV show Initial-D. Of course it can! All you need is the 5-lug conversion: Front: Legacy Struts and knuckles 1st gen Impreza springs (The legacy's were too big around) XT6 Lower control Arms XT6 Axles Legacy Brakes Rear: Suspension unchanged Crossbred Performance Brake kit Legacy rear brakes It handles way better than the old EA suspension. Which is good with the EJ25 under the hood.

230+ degrees for hundreds of miles on an EA82 was the first, I didn't know 230 was too hot and managed to blow both head gaskets, crack both heads, and calapse the skirts on three of the 4 pistons. I can't say that was CCR's fault, ya know? Turned out, the radiator was about 1/3 blocked from my previous mudding antics before we left for WCSS. I didn't catch it, and by the time we got to the Arizona desert floor, the temp was already at 220 running a max of 65MPH. I got cocky by the time we got to Nevada, and was rolling along in 115+ deg heat at 75MPH with the temp needle hanging out betwen 225-235. Yet, it never boiled over. The car was acting really strange at the show, and it just could not handle the return trip and gave up the ghost in Beatty, Nevada. Would not run and milkshake for oil. The seccond was a slow heater core leak on my sister's EA82 - but she never checks fluid levels, let alone the dashboard - so, no coolant = cracked head. By the time I finally got her to check the levels, the damage was already done. Both EA82s were solid and powerfull and had they not overheated, they'd still be running today. That's why I say 1 out of 4 instead of 3 out of 4.

I've bought 4 engines from CCR. I've only had one problem that was CCR's fault. The EJ25D we put on my parents 97 outback had a cam seize about 500 miles after installation. I sent it back, they fixed it, and sent it back to me - no cost to me. We're coming up on 40K, and it's still going strong. The other two were the owner's fault, not CCR's.

I stuffed the front seats from a 92 legacy in my 87 wagon. I used the rails from the old seats and bolted them to the legacy seats. I used the existing holes on the front and drilled new holes with longer bolts for the rear. Worked quite well.

Sounds like I will need to install an airbox (right now I have a cone air filter on the end of the MAF with the rest of the intake still there) and either make the EJ25D's EGR operational on the EJ22 harness or at least, make it "look" functional. It does have a cat (not sure if it's doing anything anymore, but it's there) and I'm sure the gas cap needs to be replaced - last I looked at it, the o-ring is cracking. The carbon canister is mostly hooked up, haven't finished that part yet, but it's almost finished. I used one from a carbureted engine, so, the port for the bowl vent is capped, but the other three I will have plumbed in and operational. I'll post some pics of the engine bay later this evening. Greetings all suby fans! What are the emission rules in Colorado? I am looking at possibly moving there and want to know if my EJ'd 87 wagon will pass or not? It's got an EJ25D running on a first gen EJ22 harness and computer. Thanks!

obk25xt, Great looking wagon! What size tires are you running? I picked up a set of WRX wheels and I am having a challenge finding tires that will fit.
