  1. Closest I've been to tipping a roo over was when I was doing a 35mph slide sideways. Was doing great till I hit a soft spot in the dirt and caused her to hop twice on two wheels. Blew the front tire off the bead. So, I swapped tires, in the dark of course, and went on my merry way never to go fully sideways 12 hours after a rain storm!
  2. Only one. My borther can't make up his mind as to what to do with it.:-\ So, for now it's sitting in the pasture where the horses play with the winshield wipers. Why? I havn't a clue.
  3. With only 9k miles on it, they shouldn't have too much blowby on them. Yeah, they look fine to me too. I took one of them to the machine shop today and he said that the skert has callapsed slightly. He also noticed that there was scuffing on them too, possiby because the piston was rocking slightly in there. He said that will not allow the rings to seat properly and may cause trouble down the road. I took some more shots of the other three. The middle one deffinately has some scuffing on it. Like I said earlier, the cylinder walls look fine. Or are they? I'm really not sure. Prolly will take the halves down there and see if he sees anything funny.
  4. Hey, your lookin' like my house! Soobs all over the place!
  5. I FINALLY got those pistons out without splitting the halves. I picked up some steel rod and ground the edge out and used that to get them out. The pistons all look the same and there's no sign of breakage that I can tell. The cylinder walls look good. However, I did have a cracked head and will be replacing that one with one off the parts car. The guy at the machine shop said that the valves had scuffing marks all the way around them. He also said a number of them were burned too.:-\ Here's some pics of the pistons. I'm going to take one to the machine shop and have him look at it. He sould be able to tell if there was any damage. http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?page=1
  6. Funny, how that song fits Subarus playing in the dirt better than the vonage ads. Great vid!
  7. My current engine state: http://usmb.net/gallery/view_album.php?page=1 The heads are currently at the machine shop having the valves looked at. Why I didn't have them looked at before....donno. Now, if I can only find somthing to get those wrist pins out. My current large nail clamped with a visegrips only worked for one pin. Oh, what joys! Took piston no 3 out and the rings look ok to me. Corse, do I even know what I'm looking at? No, but I'm going to learn!
  8. Man, I thought I was hard on my Suby. Good times, tho!
  9. If the follower was loose, that would give you TOD. Since t-belt tension is ok, how is the idler pully? Does it squeek or make any unusual sounds? Only other possibility is a bearing going on that cam somware.
  10. Loose T-belt? My brother's roo did that. We replaced the t-belts about 2 or 3 k miles ago and for some strange reason, they worked themselves loose. Tightened them up and the noise has vanished. Other possiblity would be a bearing for the cam?
  11. Ok, that answers that question. Thanks! Next question, Can I borrow one of those wristpin removers from Autozone or Napa?
  12. Ok, I replaced the head gaskets and only bummped the comp ratio from 30 to 90. They're supposed to be around 150. :-( So, looks like I might have cooked a ring or two. Not buring oil or anything, just poor compression. So........ can I get the pistons out without splitting the halfs?
  13. Yup, all that torque out of the engine is great, but if you can't get it through the clutch, what good is it? I've got the 9.5 pistons and the torque cams from Delta Camshaft and 185/80R13s and I can't get those tires moving when I'm burried to the undercarrage in sand!
  14. Yes, I seconed that. You should still be able to move forward in 4wd even if both fronts were missing. I would seriously look into that!
  15. Awesome video! That's just what I needed! I am currently rather depressed over my roo and that video lifted my spirits! Thanks!
  16. Well, Suby's good to go. Hopefully I won't have any troubles for a while. Did an oil change on BillyBob and in the process, I found his mystery oil leak: Looks like possibly a cam seal has let go. It's dripping on the lower radiator hose and all over the driver's side suspension. Oh what mess! Oh twell, Dad want's to have that done by a pro, so, I'll stick with the other 3 roos. Ah the joys of watching over the family roos!
  17. Last I read they disabled it cause there was a major security vonerabilliy within the software. You might try here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/USRM2/subrepair.htm
  18. Yup. Hopefully Suby will be ok so I can work on the rest of the roos. I just put a new thermoswitch in Barry, however, his clutch fan only runs at about 1800 rpm (Hehe..electric fan time) and his A/C has given out. Let's see....Bub is getting about 200 miles out of a tank even tho his driver is a light foot. ThunderWagon, my brother's roo, doesn't like wet weather, bog city (I'm begining to wonder if it's his coil, he's acting the same as Suby was just before she died.) Ummm.....BillyBob has a squeek reletive to viehicle speed and has a bog when cold. Vanacreampuff just lost the driver's side power window system, dad jurry rigged it so the window is at least closed. While the truck just sits there laughing at the rest of them cause he rarely ever breaks! Yup, I've got plenty to do.
  19. Yup, I'm running mechanical guages on mine. Deffinately more accuate. My sister's temp switch gave up on her, so I just bypassed it and used an aftermarket adjustable thermoswitch and a relay for her car. It works. It just takes a little time to get the turnon-turnof window set right.
