Ummm just outa curiosity, would I have to take the oil pan out to put a new hole in for the sender? Or, could I just use the existing drainplug hole and use an adaptor? I've got an electric temp guage by SunPro with the metric adaptors. Would that work?

Great vids! Ahhh the beauty of a light 4wd and the torque of the flat four!

Those tire are awesome! I bet that legacy would just glide right over the mud pit on top truck challenge! Well, with a smooth undercarage that is!

Hey, I'm in the same boat! Jobless, that is. I'm currently working on converting my carby wagon to SPFI. I am planning on running up there some time this week to pick up a EGR solenoid, purge control valve and an air control valve. Acually, I'll prolly pick up a few. Dat way I have a few spares for mine and my brothers' roos. We should get together and do some off-roading together some time. -

Oh goody, another Arizonian! I live down here in Sierra Vista, abouts 90 miles south of Tucson. Know of any good junkyards there? I usually goto Beep Beep, but lately they're Soob stock is gettin pretty low. -
I agree! I had them custom build an engine for me. Very good quality and very knowlegable. Would I get another one? You bet!

I tell you what, them Ford trucks are HARD to break! My Dad has overloaded his Ford trucks countless times and they just keep on running! I don't get it.
-
Hummm how bout: 1 Suby breaks, 'nother 2 follow within the week! I don't get it. It seems when I'm working on one roo, the others get jelous and want attention too. Never happends when the Fords break. When one of those breaks, the Subies behave very nicely. Do I see a conspiricy goin on around here????

Hood Scoop ideas....

I agree. -
Yeah, I have the same problem. I switched to Chevron regular and the pinging went bye bye. I wonder how you can enable the EGR????
-
88 C I think is the same as the 195 F. Or abouts the same. Head gasklets is easiest with the engine out.

I say do something different. Shaker style!:burnout:I wonder what that would look like backwords? -
If it's just burning alot of oil, that sounds like worn rings and/or valve guides. You might try runniing half 10w-40 and half 20w-50. I did that to my Suby B4 it died and dropped from 2 qts a fillup to 1 qt a fillup. Justa way to help decreace your oil consumsion. On your cooling system, have you tried doing a full coolant flush? Might pick up one of those cooling flush kits from wal-mart or your favorite autoparts store. Easy to install. That might loosen up any junk on the cooling system. Also would swap out the t-stat with a Subaru t-stat. Do you notice any bubbles comming up from the radiator while the engine is running? THat could indicate a toast Head gasket. Other signs are oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. Just some other ideas 4 ya.

My bother and I swapped the 3at out of his 87 gl wagon with a 5sp d/r out of a 88 gl wagon. We were able to figure out the reverse lights, but we can't find which wires are for the 4wd indicator on the dash. We know which wires for 4hi and 4low on the tranny, but which wires turn on the dash light on the car? Anybody have like the wiring part of an FSM for an 87 GL 3AT? Thanks!

recommended motor, tranny, and diff oil? EA82T 4WD

Tis true. But it's still fun to scream by somebody at 7k in 2nd. hehehehe....I don't even have a turbo.... Funny tho, after I cracked my exhaust y-pipe on that rock, the power band has shifted up. I wonder if my y pipe is too small, hummmmm................ -
Yeah, they'll do that. My sister's 89 dl did that. Had no roof rack and spent it's entire life (189k miles when she bought it) on dirt roads. Slam the door closed, and it pop. I've ridden in some that have had that bang kind of sound while driving over bumps. Now, she's got a 87 gl that HAS a roof rack. no more bang when you close the door. You could try and put some sort of dampening matirial on the roof; between the headliner and the roof itself. My roof rattles when my sub bumps. I'll prolly end up doing that to rid of that rattle. And the rear gate. And the license plate. and the doors.................

Yeah, Subaru filters. I use Castrol GTX 10w-40. With 10w-30, she chatters just a litle bit and drives me crazy. I think I'm gonna try the Mobil 1 synth in me new tranny. Only 6200? my old engine valve float was about 6800. New one, 7700! Must be the RV cams. PS Emily, you did NOT see that! -
I hope your kidding. That's just begging for a blowout. Espeasially if your driving habbits are as bad as mine: Petter Solberg Jr. in training:burnout:You might get away with 5 over the max rating, but not 25 over. Between 32 and 35 psi is the reccomended pressure for our Subies for best mileage and tread life.
